Hi Community,

On December 15, 2015, I let everyone know that we had started to roll out the updated Navigatr guide.  Take a look here for that post.

As we continue to roll out the update, customers will be notified ahead of time that they will be getting the new software.

If you have received the updated Navigatr software (i.e. since December 15, 2015) and would like to ask a question and/or share your findings/learnings, please do so in THIS THREAD.

As always, the Community Guidelines and Terms of Use apply.

Thanks very much for keeping the community a pleasant place to be!

The new Navigatr is worse than the old one. The functionality seems improved but the speed of response is terrible. Selecting some functions like deleting recordings takes several attempts. Please improve this or let us revert back to the old version

Ok, I'd like to take a measure of how bad this is; how many of you have Nextbox 2 and suffer from almost unusable performance with the new Navigatr software? Just give a "like" to this post if that's your case.

Has anyone managed to "fix" (no rebooting all the time workarounds or migrating to the newer boxes, please) this?

So far for me it really looks like Rogers not giving a s* about generation 2 boxes and forcing us to move to the newer ones. I went through the full cycle of "rent to own" and don't pay a cent anymore for my 3 devices, I don't want to upgrade just for a nice interface (no new "real features on this version).

My 4625 is fine.  Quite useable in a WHPVR setup.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

Hey Community,

Today, we upgraded the Navigatr software to some NextBox cable customers in communities North and East of Toronto, including Scarborough, Richmond Hill, Barrie, Collingwood, Bolton, Midland, Orangeville, Orillia, and Owen Sound. Some customers had experienced issues with the Closed Caption feature not functioning properly upon PVR playback. We believe this issue has been resolved by recent upgrades and future recording will display Closed Caption correctly.

Stay tuned for more updates.

I have been away for two weeks and haven't even used my PVR.  When I get home, I still have to reboot it to get it to work.  Also, I now have to exchange my remote because the buttons are used so often now with all the extra steps to do, half of them barely work.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

The Guide

The "New and Improved" guide SUCKS!  Way slower, harder to read and fewer features.  Did ANYBODY think to ask the customers what they wanted or what features they like best?  It was the same when they changed it the last time.  We used to be able to view a list of programs we had flagged to view.  Not any more.  And now this new guide...we used to be able to read it.  Now it's fine print makes this difficult.  We used to be able to flag a show to watch later and if we were out of the room, it would automatically switch to that channel...not any more!  And the new guide is so S-L-O-W-!  We often think it has missed a signal we've sent and so we push the button again.  Then it takes both clicks and we're of to someplace in the guide we didn't want to go to.

I'm just wondering how much money this change made for Rogers because that is their chief reason for making ANY changes.  It certainly isn't for improved customer service.

Another problem to add to the long list of Navigatr faults.

We taped two "Person of Interest" prgrams back to back. The first tile had a picture on the tile that said "Motive" which was not the right program to display. When you scroll over it  however, with the blue square outline, then the text says "Person of Interest" and behind the text you can still faintly see the "Motive" picture. If you select the program the description for the Person of Interest program appears. When you exit and scroll over to the second tile for the "Person of Interest" you see the right text with the "Person of Interest" and also the right tile picture displayed for that program.  Selecting it also give you the right description of the program.

Just another glitch to let this suffering community know that what you tape may not be displayed by the picture you see on the tile. We certainly hope that when we actually watch the two programs, they are the right ones.

No point calling tech support on this, unless they have it on their white board. Perhaps someone from this community can speculate on why this glitch occurs and hopefully get a credit on your bill.

Yes I beleive Rogers has screwed it up on purpose.

Notice how they are pusing PPV on searchs and there is no option to opt out of PPV.

In the Navigar menu view options they have two choices.

1/ View all

2/View schedualed

There is no view just recorded programs.

The other setting allowed is view by date or view alphabeticaly.

Whenyou selec a Poster Icon it is almost blacked out and there is no program descriptio until you click on the Icon.

I would prefere a menu that had the Icon down the left and full text description  to the right.

Shomi - Screwed. Just trying agin to push PPV

This dose nothing to address the issues with the menus. It is still a failure and not as good as the ole menu.

First time in the forums and not surprised to see all the people with Navigator problems. My Navigator has stopped recording my shows. I program them to record, they are "set to record" but never do. And when I check my recording schedule it will say "set to record show xxxx on May 1st (whatever date the show was).  How can it be set to record a show on a date that has passed?!

Agreed, the lag time is ridiculous and I often just give up, I'm never sure if I've set everything correctly, and even if a show in the guide shows the little red dots (which indicates I've set to record the show), nothing gets recorded.

And I can't delete anything - single shows or a grouping of shows, same response, "sorry, we cannot delete this show as it is currently being viewed".

HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.

Funny that since we got Navigatr i have had none of these problems that you describe. Can't record in the past, everything i set to record is recorded and i can delete anything i want. I am not thrilled about some of the usability issues but it is functional.

Seriously @rgottinger? Are you suggesting that because you have not personally experienced an issue that it doesn't exist? Wow!

i just got a new box from Rogers last month that is problem free as well as a 2 yr old one that functions just fine. Like i said usability is a separate subject but sounds like you have a box that should be traded in if it is a rental

It's not the BOX. It is the stupid menu they released and their tendency to try and move you into PPV selections. This NEW posted menu is riddled with . problems and user unfriendly selections.

Try the search and see if you can record a series when you do find what you wnat NO> See f you can refine search to only search HD and NO PPV, >NO<.

Try refinining your Recorded programs. You can select see all or see only schedualed. What! Why not see only Recorded as option like the past menure.

Half the pposted icons are blank and if you select one the Title show and you have to click to get any information, then you may get only limited info with >NO< time date or channel irt was recorded on.

Menue format.

The past menue you could display by Time/Chanel/Schedual/PVR

The NEW menu you have 2 choices - Most recent or Alphabet.

The NEW Menu is NOT user friendly and aimed at getting people to purchase.

PPV programs. (PPV)= Pay Per View)

It's DISAPPOINTING and Rogers care about customer.

If Bell had Fiber optic in my area I would be switching.

Today, we upgraded the Navigatr software to some NextBox cable customers in Toronto and Etobicoke. Some customers had experienced issues with the Closed Caption feature not functioning properly upon PVR playback. We believe this issue has been resolved by recent upgrades and future recording will display Closed Caption correctly.  We’ll keep you posted on further updates.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I daresay that I speak for all of us when I say that you and the other Mods and Rogers employees should NOT take the fact that this thread is drying up to a trickle to mean that we are any happier now than we have been for months. There just comes a point where banging your head against a Rogers brick wall isn't fun anymore. Even with this latest "fix" (no doubt a VERY important one if you need the CC'ing) the Navagtr software is still riddled with problems and I just would not want anyone to think that we have now been satisfied or that we have gone away.

Thanks for the info @RogersRoland but this was pretty evident since I had to reboot my box within 12 hours of receiving the upgrade after it had already starting to destabalize.

Do you or anyone at Rogers have any idea when we are going to receive a STABLE update to this nonsense called Navigatr?

Going on 10 months and this product still isn't worthy of being moved from alpha testing to beta testing, let alone a controlled release or being unleashed on everyone.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how to tell what will be recorded at a given time without having to check each individual tile or scroll through dozens of pages in the guide? I had to wait to reboot my box when nothing was being recorded, the problem though is that I had no easy way to check what was set to record for the next hour.

Thank you.
