Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

I hate this new guide. It's not easier to read than the older one if anything it's harder. The recordings on your PVR are not clearly listed as being recorded or recording & the titles are hard to read because they look like a book or DVD cover rather than the previous look that showed more details.

I hate the color background, its harder on the eyes than the black & red colors from before. It's not any faster to find the chanels listings than before. I hate the way the show decription rolls up & how small it is compared to before. I wish you would have kept a good thing the way it was. Like the saying goes, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

Let's bring back the old version.

@Steelheader Thanks for the explanation of acronyms. I think Rogers posted something like that, but less complete, and I can't find it right now. Seeing "VOD" confused me because we'd always known it as Rogers On Demand (ROD) and I wondered if it was something exclusive to Navigatr. Many of these you can find on Google and Wikipedia, but others are Rogers specific. One that had me guessing for a long time was "OOP", which Google didn't know. Turns out it was "Office of the President" where you have to escalate problems if they're not getting resolved.

OOP has stood for Object Oriented Programming for decades and i found easily on Google by typing OOP.  Office of the President would be OOTP wouldn't it?

We've been working through the new Navigatr upgrade to our Nextbox and have encountered a few issues.  Below are some observations or suggestions but others are issues and I wonder if anyone else is experiencing or has a suggestion:

6. Issue:  The show images are too large and the bottom row is getting cut off.

9. Question:  How do I do time shifting recording?  I searched for the show in the guide, selected it but then it didn't show me all of the alternate times that the show was playing.  I used this feature extensively to ensure that I was never recording 2 shows at the same time.  Can anyone tell me how to do this with the new guide?

Re 6:  It's due to your tv overscaning (zooming in a little).  It was discussed here a while ago.  Good luck finding it!

I tried and couldn't!  I was able to fix it on my 2 year old Sony by setting display to "full pixel".  No option to correct on my 6 year old Sony.

I won't go into any more details, but the reason for doing this was discussed here.

Re 9: If you read the 1,000's of posts here you find that the new guide sucks big time at searching. It was suggested that the Rogers "TV Home Edition" app does it better.  I already had this on my iPhone and tried it.  Way better, with many time options of the show. Once linked to your PVR, you can schedule recording right from your phone.  It's also a much better PVR manager.  You can display recorded shows, and scheduled shows  separately.  Now you can see in one screen how many shows you are planning to record at a certain time (for those times you think you have too many scheduled).

If you don't have the app, definitely worth getting for your smartphone or tablet.

You're right, but someone here used "OOP" a lot and it wasn't for Object Oriented Programming. I notice some forums coin their own acronyms, which are quite baffling to newcomers.

Agreed. Especially when the originator doesn't make the acronym consistent with the phrase that they are trying to shorten

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

I get that rogers was going for a more visual system, but not only is this navigatr so busy trying to look like Netflix that it lost some of the flexibility of the prior system, it has taken my investment in Nextbox 2 (yes I bought the speedsters from Costco) and made it of even less value. The speed of this operating system on this box is pitiful - every selection has multi second delays. I have to resist the temptation to keep hitting buttons. The PVR menu seems far less flexible or at least not as useful as the prior less slow-poke. I'd like a simple listing without the damned pics. Deleting a series of shows was easy - now it's a pain. With 2 of these dinosaurs in the house, my frustration usually turns us to Apple TV and Netflix - and they were pretty slow from the get go. Very disappointing. How about an upgrade path that doesn't break the bank!!!!

The guide was slow before now itis so excurciatingly slow. It takes  3 - 5 seconds for the software to respond. Leads to erros and very poor service.

The hardware is a computer and if it was slow before Navigatr and is slower now than before you appear to have a hardware problem, ie a box that is too old and doesn't have a powerful enough CPU. If it isn't old then it is defective because my 9865HD isn't slow but can't overcome usability issues

I think Rogers is fighting battles at many ends including Navigatr's introduction. In March by CRTC ruling Rogers and other providers are going to abide by the purchase of only channels you want. Not sure if this figures into technologies but can't help but feel that attractiveness of programming is going to be critical to Rogers bottom line. Right now they are not fairing too well.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

We have 2 netbox 2.0 that were slow to begin with. Between the 2 we have about 800 dollars invested and they were horribly slow to begin with.

We are done. A kodi box is coming and as soon as we figure the ins and our Rogers is gone.

These boxes are now the slowest pieces of **** we have ever seen.

Thanks for taking our money and making cable tv miserable.

The other thing is pressing the info button when watching previously recorded TV. It would continue playing, and I could still see and select the different options (such as CC), but now, not only does the recording stop as you navigate to the new information page, but I also can't find options such as turning CC on/off. Am I missing something?

Something even more idiotic... Start with pressing info and the recording stops.  Ok, a (poor) design choice but let's assume it makes sense to pause and that Rogers developers know best.  Now that you are on the info screen with a paused recording press the search button... the recording starts to play again. So, if the design was to pause a recording while the user is pounding on some buttons why doesn't it stay paused? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I think it is time that we all faced up to the fact that Rogers bit the dust with Navigatr. Despite the effort of many on here to provide work arounds on how to use this abomination, the fact of the matter is that Rogers blew it, refuses to admit it, and could care less about the customer experience.  This thread has 130 pages, the previous Navigatr thread had over 170 pages, not to mention various sub threads on specific topics. The only real solution is to cancel cable with Rogers and switch providers.

The search feature doesn't work on this new menu that changed. I tried to do a search on a show to see when it's going to be on next and on what channel and it only showed me one time period. However, when I painstakingly went through the guide, there were many so I don't know what kind of search feature that is.

The old menu used to provide search results for the show in every channel at every time on any given day. With this new menu junk that Rogers has forced us to use, we're screwed for entertainment. We should all hand over our PVR's back to them. Our complaints will never be heard.

It isn't faster at all. It takes me much longer to arrange my shows for taping. This new menu has everyone complaining but Rogers will never, never do anything about it

This is not solved. The menu sucks and Rogers should do something about it by bringing the old one back

I am on a purchased box and this is the worst menu that Rogers has forced customers to use. It's slow and time consuming when trying to arrange the timing of your show and those stupid pictures for your shows are ludicrous. A listing was perfectly fine.

I think customers should start sending the PVR's back to Rogers and maybe then they will listen to us.

I don't know how much it cost Rogers to develop or buy this new software. In any case is a complete waste of time and money. They should go back to the previous software. I am sure nobody would lament the loss of NAVIGATR.  Rogers looked for a solution to a problem that didn't exist and created a problem in the process.

I have an 8642 and the shomi was running before the menu showed up. It's slow, it takes way longer to set up your programs because the channel numbers don't show up, the search feature doesn't bring up all the shows you want and I have a slew of items that make this new menu suck. There was nothing wrong with what we had before so rogers should have given us a choice not force this on us

The figure I saw in a financial report was something like 1-3 million (as it was software, without any hardward costs) and customization costs I am sure.

No way to go back it seems - likely with the change with Cisco getting out of setboxes.

Things went totally south on this rollout of new technology and now we have to deal with it, along with all those poor people in various levels os support who have been given the marketing lines, some token trouble shooting tasks, but no information on what really is going on, or if they know they have been ordered to not tell.  I suspect it has been kept behind closed doors way on high, because no one at Rogers seems willing to show their cards, so we have lots of rumour, confusion, mismessages from staff, frustration, anger, people leaving and moving on, and this is certainly not living up to their desire to improved customer service.
