No I have never been contacted either.  I do it for me and for others.  And I agree, give me free Internet, but if it is Navigtr, not sure I want it, but I would take it as long as the box is free too. Smiley Happy

Yep. NINE button presses instread of TWO.  The price of "progress" Smiley Mad

That's what is SO disappointing. We didn't love the old one, but it worked.  They didn't improve it, or replace it;  they took stuff away, the good stuff.   Navigatr is just, well, I have used all the words I have in other posts.    I am now officially speechless.

Some of my SERIES recordings aren’t grouped together although they have the same title. Why is this?

As BS and others mentioned previously, Rogers is looking way forward with the Espial systems and Navigatr.

As I mentioned previously, the younger generations have left TV long ago and gone to cell phones and tablets and streaming. Granted Rogers still has their business in this way. Where the new systems probably come in is in the new formats to attract these customers. And that is 4K. Best Buy and many other retailers and manufacturers are putting there $$ in 4K. And 4K is not on tablets and cell phones. Buying big like 70" screen is where the WOW is.

This is what Rogers is working in a frenzy to achieve and the new formats like Navigatr and Espial probably have capabilities far beyond what we are dealing with including web interface and RDK. Here is their CEO talking about it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3C4D4SIJ3Wg

You have just struck HUGE fear in my heart. Can you imagine the fiasco we are about to live through once the complexity goes up?  If this is what they are basing their 'interface of the future' on, we are all doomed.....

Dear Rogers / The Rogers powers-to-be / Roger’s decision-makers / Superiors at Rogers / etc. (AKA The Roger’s elite)

I think this should remain as a separate thread with the aforementioned subject. (Or any title similar IMO)

If this is kept for ideas ONLY, maybe the Rogers elite (mentioned after the "Dear" (above)) can use all their <your> time analysing the comments that will <hopefully> appear ...

This would further <HOPEFULLY> allow our *superiors* to create solutions instead of having to plod through post after post after post and sometimes coming across (a) shocking insult(s)!!

I assume that you (the Rogers elite) being part of such a fine customer / client-oriented company will agree with the idea / suggestion thread?

It could very well illustrate Team effort!

Your job should become easier!

And maybe you will find compliment after compliment after compliment in the distant / far-off future!

Thank you

NB: I truly apologize to anyone who already suggested this but I cannot find ANYTHING I am looking for in the merged threads.

And if I offend anyone I am sorry!

Extremely frustrated.  We are a 2 PVR family and Navigatr rolled out last week.  The older PVR is slow, isn't grouping my kids shows, and shows ridiculous tiles (for which every Max and Ruby or Paw Patrol or whatever else) of identical pictures instead of a description of the show.  Ever have a child want that ONE specific episode, of the 30 you have recorded?  I have.  Repeatedly.   Upgrade has also slowed the box down considerably.

Then the NextBox 3.0.  It is the "adult" box.  Only our shows.  Only used by adults.  It has consistently lagged and been slow to respond since the update.  The Guide feature is essentially useless because it takes a good 30 seconds before any button press is recognized.

Then today comes.  I decide to check the weather forecast.  Turn the TV and box on.  Box says it is downloading.  And then installing.  And then it just freezes there.  After an hour I reboot becuase it has sat at a black screen and the power button is not responding.  After turning back on, I have all the "features".  But nothing is on any channel... no picture or sound.  But the lagging guide is back.  I reboot again.  Again.  I debate calling Rogers but have to pick the kids up in an hour and I know that I will be on the phone longer than that.  As I leave the house, I notice it is back saying "downoading".  Checked periodically the next couple hours and still the full set of features with no picture or sound.  Spouse checks the tv after dinner, gets another "downloading".  And then there is a picture and sound.  But the Guide is still useless.  Slow, lagging.

Spouse reboots a few more times before calling Rogers.  And it stops lagging.

So... I HATE Navigatr still, but at least it is sort of fucntioning.  I see most of the shows I record are now showing up in my list (where before they were not showing and the Guide was showing "no information" for anything beyond a few hours away from the time of accessing it).  I guess I am going to have to tell it again to record the shows becuase it isn't picking up the favourites (Walking Dead for one).

I honestly wish we were given the option whether we wanted to upgrade to this newer programming.  I can only imagine the frustration of today if I had a sick child a home from school who was only up for laying on the couch watching tv.

Hoping that MUCH more testing is done by real users before any further rollouts.

Multiple tiles, but with the same name?

I have found, that even though the TITLE is the same..  (lets say NCIS for an example), you can end up with 3+ tiles based on the following.

- Recording a series on channel X will give you one.

- If you set up a silgle recording by hand, even if on the same channel X, it will create its own tile.

- if you have it set up, to go in any form on channel Y, it will give you another one.

etc.

The OLD guide, would still put them in the same folder.
This is something , i think they need to fix and do in THIS guide as well.
Even on the old one, if on different channels, would group together.

If you have old recordings on there.. i know the old guide used to randomly record stuff on the UPPER or LOWER channel.. which could then possibly have then, under the new break out.. show different tiles for it. (i had 1-2 like this)

To: Baseball Mama...I feel your pain.  The first 10-14 days were the worst...constant downloads and wierd happenings and time spent deleting and re-sorting thru the world of tiles!   I don't think Rogers understands how time consuming it is to have to "deal with" this animal, nor the constant fear of what is next?

To:  Rocksandtrees:  Yes, I still am getting the occassional runaway recording that never ends until you pull the plug.  I also still get the occasional show that does not record and I can't set it to record because it says "duplicate recording"...both bugs left over and not fixed.

I would like to emphasive the importance of showing an actual CHANNEL NUMBER on scheduled/upcoming recordings.  The signal on my street is not the best...therefore many of the lower channels (global, CITY) I have to watch on the 500 channels because the picture freezes and pizelates on the lower ones.  There are others however that the reverse is true...i.e. can't watch on the higher one.  A very nice Rogers repairman who has been at my house many times due to signal problems, said that they "batch" channels together...so even though you think it's the same channel...because of the "batching" of channels, you can have this happen and he sees it often in areas where the Rogers lines are old and need replacing.  So for people like myself and my neighbours, until they actually put in new lines (been waiting over 5 years)...we need to watch and record on specific CHANNEL NUMBERS...this was a huge issue about a year ago when Rogers automatically would change the series recordings to the higher HD numbers...a lot of us screamed pretty loudly and they stopped it.  Of course this wouldn't be a problem if everyone had a REALLY GOOD SIGNAL...which I think is also a contributing factor to some of our Navigatr booting problems.  I am hoping that a ROGERS MODERATOR can pass this problem along...WE NEED TO SEE THE CHANNEL NUMBER BECAUSE SOME OF US HAVE TO LIVE WITH A WEAKER SIGNAL UNTIL YOU FIX THAT TOO!

If your getting weak signals.. its nothing rogers can do from the BACK end. 😞

You would need to get a tech out to fix it.... and if its beyond the house level (street, etc) the tech would then need to escalate to maintenance.

last night my Navigatr'd NB3 had the recording light on before I went to bed - I was too tired to go through each tile to see what was recording (I didn't think anything should have been) so I left it (the old list function would have told me what I wanted to know with 1 click) and the light was still on this morning.  So I rebooted and I see that the PVR usage went up by around 6% but obviously nothing recorded all night long

certainly another bug - curious that the usage increased but nothing was recorded

Happened to me last week.  You won't find any new shows recorded.  What you will most likely find is that one if the shows you were recording continued to record.

Mine had recorded about 26 hours of the Big Bank Theory.  We tried to watch the show but when it got about 10 min into the show it kicked us out of the show.  Tried to watch again, FF to part we were at, but got kicked out again.  So we were not able to see what it recorded for the rest of the 26 hours.

I had a problem with weak signal a couple of years ago and it ended up resulting in all of the coax throughout the house being replaced. Once that was done, everything was noticeably better.

Any news on how recording conflicts are handled?

Is there a screen you can go to that highlights conflicts?

By conflicts I mean you've set up three series to record, and each of them have an episode to record at the same time.  How does Navigatr let you know which two will record and which one won't?

How do you change series recording priority?

It would be useful if the channel and recording time were always visible when you check out a scheduled recording box.

Lastly, does anyone else find that there are tons of times where you press exit and you get kicked out of the PVR section entirely?

I'm not entirely sure when this happens, but it can be frustrating.

This is what has happened to me.  Scrolled down through several pages of recorded programs to a couple of record series boxes at the bottom.  I want to look at a couple of them in this area.  I click on one, get the info I need, and then press EXIT hoping to be taken back to the box listing with the item I just looked at highlighted.  Instead it kicks me out completely and I have to completely repeat the procedure of scrolling through pages.

I just find everything takes 5 times as long to do as under the old system.

I have heard that it will still tell you this, but the concern at the moment for some is what happens when you have a prescheduled program in the same place and one of the older one comes back into place, possibly leading to conflicts.  Does it tell us this in any way - yes the date and time would be so useful - mentioned many, many times.

Not sure about setting priority - has anyone else with an NB2 run into this or could do some testing to help.  This one has been brought up just recently, along with yours now, but to date, I am not sure if anyone has given a good workout to test it and to document if there are issues and how to work with it.  It was simple in the past, but since you are not the first to report it, it must be causing issues - needs more exploration - any NB2 users out there want to take it on.

I sometimes feel like not only are we here on the board the beta testers, but we are also usability testers, documentors of workarounds, and often giving logical solutions to move forward.  And we get paid in nothing but compliments from the board, kudos, which are nice, we get respect, but we do it becausse we mostly like to solve problems, want to help, but we are just as frustrated and have gone through various levels of that frustration over time.

I hope someone can provide you the answer.  Or you could wait on tech support, but they probably don't have an answer, so nah, don't bother.

I could test this, but in my case I would have to do 9 recordings as I am on NB3.

And yes, much of this box is frustrating.

Yes, we have been having this exit problem.  I think it is another thing to be looked at. In the old system, Exit would take you back to the previous screen.  In Navigatr, it works differently, and there needs to be a way of getting back to the previous screen, as you described.  The whole process of doing anything in Navigatr is just so much more laborious, and doesn't even make logical sense, a lot of the time.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

Yes, exit, like the info button can be unpredictable depending upon what you are doing.  Maybe if someone wants to take it on, they could do like has been done with the info key showing the different ways it operates in the three viewing features of live, pvr and on demand.

Maybe go through the feature set and show the differences in toggling a button, verus, backing out screens, versus exit keys.  There seems to be a huge lack of consistency in how the buttons and feature set of the guide operate in live tv versus PVR and on demand - and this inconsistency exists in many functions.

I suspect it lies in what the Espial video showed us - that there are about 4 different layers of our PVR's of hardware and software that have to interact with each  other and On Demand is one software feature set, PVR is another, basic input/output, like on off, cable versus tv, channel up and down in live tv are down at the Hardware level, been there unchanged for years, and then there is RTN, or the other RDK middle ware, and it doesn't seem that the integration and continuity and user ease of function has been dealt with very well at all.  I now acknowledge that there are probably market and business reasons for what happened, but boy I am getting tired of it all - but I am ranting again.

Hope a solution and understanding of the conflicts can be identified and provided to Rogers to clean it up.

Bruce

I totally agree.

I've had Navigatr for about a week now, and I suppose it works the way they programmed it. Problem is, that it doesn't work the way the customers want. I have yet to find a feature which I like more than the old software. But I can give you a long long list of things which are worse. I am not sure they can even address all the problems without a total rewrite. Please bring back the old software.

I've Been Around

I spent over half an hour getting back to the recorded show I was watching when I decided to schedule a recording of something else that was coming up.

I was told that when they started with Navigatr it was to make using the PVR easier and it has done just the oposite. It is very hard to find listings for shows that are already recorded and listings for future programs that you want to record. I had to reset the box at least twice.

If this is supposed to make using the PVR easier and better, it is failing beyond words. I have even thought of getting rid of Rogers. I keep hoping someone at Rogers will see they need more work to Navigatr and reinstal the old program. Personally, I found nothing wrong with the old system and what I think people such as Rogers Techs should remember is if it's not broke don't fix. They should be ashames of Navigatr.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

My husband and I hate Navigator.

1.  Cannot get pertinent information without going into the selection.

2.  Cannot read entire title.

3.  Pictures take up a lot of room.

4.  Everything loads very slowly because of the pictures.

5.  We have whole home and two PVRs.  We can no longer see a separate listing of my husband's recordings and my recordings.  We may as well get rid of one PVR.  IMPORTANT!!!!

6.  It will only play or delete when it is in the right mood (full moon?) so my PVR is filling up because it is so difficult to get it to cooperate.

7. If something has been preempted, it used to be easy to follow along the course of what has been taped on a specific channel.  This is now very difficult if not impossible.

8. It takes many steps to do something that once happened quickly and easily.

9.  When I talk to tech support, I am told that if I simply undertood how to use it, things would be fine.  I do understand.  No amount of undertanding would help this mess.

I could list more but is there a point?  I have asked for someone to phone me with a solution but no one calls.

I am paying for services that I no longer receive.

I've Been Here Awhile

Well, I've had Navigatr since last July and I HATE it every bit as much now as I did then. When it magically appeared last July, without warning, I had just returned from holiday and my recordings were all gone and none of my shows I was expecting to watch were there. I complained to Rogers and received no compensation for my lost recordings.  Then I spent hours working around all the bugs, lagginess, and needing  to reboot constantly. Watching tv on Rogers became so frustrating, I basically found other things to do. I'm the only one in the house who even watches cable tv anymore, so I cut service back to basic cable. When I found this forum a few months ago, I had hope that a new update was coming soon and maybe everything would be better. Well, I am completely underwhelmed with this new update. It's still slow, clumsy, unreliable, so lacking in ease of use and being able to manage recordings.  I have basically given up using Navigatr and use Anyplace TV on my desktop to try to manage my recordings, but that is far from perfect and only works on my phone half the time (it fails to load quite often). I have used PVRs from other providers and the amount of information and control you can have over your recordings as well as the speed is amazing in comparison. So I am tired of waiting and hoping for improvements and have concluded it's time to cut the cord after 30+ years of paying Rogers ever-increasing fees for ever-declining cable service. I've only stayed this long because I have excellent discounts, but the discounts will soon be done and so am I. I've already found better places to spend my entertainment dollars and time. Navigatr is the straw that broke this camel's back!
