Hi Community,
On December 15, 2015, I let everyone know that we had started to roll out the updated Navigatr guide. Take a look here for that post.
As we continue to roll out the update, customers will be notified ahead of time that they will be getting the new software.
If you have received the updated Navigatr software (i.e. since December 15, 2015) and would like to ask a question and/or share your findings/learnings, please do so in THIS THREAD.
As always, the Community Guidelines and Terms of Use apply.
Thanks very much for keeping the community a pleasant place to be!

What I would like to see is this, affter selecting LIST:
1) There should be a 'persistent' set filter links. just above the top row of images, or top of screen, for:
All Recorded Recording Now Scheduled Unwatched
These links would filter the list accordingly, and would always be visible regardless of what filter, if any, is in place.
2) As well there should be two other 'persistent' sort links, jsut above the top row of images, or top of screen, for:
Alphabetic Newest Oldest
These links would sort the list accordingly, and would always be visible regardless of what filter or sort, if any, is in place.

That's a big IF! 😉 There are many instances with Navigatr that would indicate little or no thought, or discussion, or testing, went into many of the options/menus in the new firmware.

Your not the only one with those feelings 😞
For the you seeing multiple for the one show..
I beleive i figured out WHY it does it.
My opinion it SHOULDNT.. and should be FIXED.
In the old one, all NCIS, regardless of how/where, were together (as long as the title was the same)
With this, seems to seperate them based on:
These all make it break down into multiple folders.
To even make this semi usable, needs to make them all group together, as they were before.
Just make sure each recording, each schedule, etc inside the folder shows the specific channel, etc on the listing there.

I have found that functionality is missing is this "forced" Navigatr upgrade. I am all for making the experience better for the customer, but NOT at the expense of functionality. The new changes may look "pretty" to someone else, but at the end of the day we want something that IMPROVES or ENHANCES functionality, speed, customization and visual experience. Removing functionality decreases customer satisfaction and trust.
Search:
(1) I can no longer filter on "TV" and "On-Demand".
(2) I get search results in the form of tiles. At a first glance, the tile does not tell me if it's a TV program (upcoming) or On-Demand. I have to click each one to find that information; I can't even hover on it and see details.
(3) Please make the keyboard QWERTY.
List:
(1) The tiles (again) do not tell me: date, time, or channel on the front-end. I have to waste time clicking into each one.
(2) How do you change the Sort option?
(3) The ability to simply change from "recorded" tab to "scheduled recordings" tab is missing. I do not like that I have to scroll to the bottom to see scheduled items; integrated with the "recorded" list. This doesn't make sense to me.
(4) If I click on a tile called "X-Files", make a change and exit, I want to be returned, where I left off alphabetically, in the list. Right now I am forced back to the top of the list and I have to scroll back down to where I was.
(5) There is no option to have the current live stream of TV to be visible in a little box while perusing the List. Akin to how the little TV box is present while perusing the Guide. I think that this should be an option.
(6) The process of setting up a recording feels clunky to me. I'd like to see all options at the same time (at a glance), instead of having to scroll down, then scroll all the way to the top to exit and save.
(7) A new feature to warn us of duplicate recordings would have been very useful. So, if I set X-Files to tape on one channel at 9:00pm, have the system pop-up a warning if there is already a recording set up for X-Files on another channel, at the same time. This would allow us to refine our recording set-ups and also help to save on space.
Positive Feedback:
(1) I like that the option to record series is available at the time you set up a recording. Thank you!

Well True, at least from a CUSTOMER standpoint. 😛
It was more likely, some marketing guy, saying "This is what is HIP and what people will like" and someone beleiving them.
There are tons of people on here.. who would GLADLY voulenteen for REAL WORLD user testing for new things, to help prevent these things from happening.

I agree 100%. The customer should always be an integral part of the development process from beginning to end. I would have been more than happy to be involved in BETA testing or asked for features I would like to see in future releases. This is IT Development 101.

As taught in school perhaps but not in real life. Does Microsoft ask customers what they want?

What I LOVE about the new Navigatr Guide:
I would like to mention a new feature that I absolutely love... The Mini Guide. Very convenient for channel surfing. Very much an improvement over the previous version. Bravo.

At least when Microsoft provides updates to my computer it tells me "updates were installed, click here for more details".
With Navigatr updates you have to troll the forums, do detetective work, trial and error and guess what may or may not have happened to your PVR overnight. I guess Rogers only knows how to notify us when there is a price increase, not when they experiment with your box. I guess we're all not worthy enough to be kept up to date in a professional manner.

Microsoft does tell you when updates are installed but they don't ask you what you want when a new version of Windows or any Office product is developed which was the point. That is why the Start button disappeared in Windows 8 and reappeared in WIndows 10. They decided it was unecessary and were told by the masses that they were wrong. They listened to that but shouldn't have made the mistake in the first place/

The question was asked if anyone could see anything that Navigatr improved. Well, we can now set the brightness of the LED display!
02-10-2016 12:58 PM
Yes...you are correct about Microsoft also not listening to it's customers. My main point was that I think as Rogers (hopefully) fixes some of the problems, that we be informed of that. I've lived with this "thing" since July and have to become a detective to know what is happening on a daily basis. Rogers knows our email address and phone numbers. Could they not provide a quick "we are sorry that our sleep function put your box in a coma and have now removed that feature"...and send it to us? Or at THE VERY LEAST make sure their tech people know of the fix... I should not have to troll the forums daily to find out if cc has been fixed or many of the other issues outstanding have been improved. I shouldn't have to get my FAQ's here...that's Rogers job...not ours!

Microsoft - like most major software developers - _do_ spend a lot of time and effort into finding out what customers want/need. I worked in IBM's software lab for 12 years and we spent a lot of time on talking to users about their wants/needs.
Sometimes (witness the Start button fiasco) you still make mistakes. What differentiates the good companies from the bad is how they deal with the mistakes. MS fixed the issue.
P.S. I'm a Mac user and no lover of MS - but to suggest that they deal with customers the way that Rogers do is to do them a significant disservice.

OMG... I've been trying to use this new software for a week and am totally frustrated. It is VERY slow and VERY awkward to use. I'd go back in an instant to the old version given 1/2 a chance. Specifically, I can no longer stop recording and delete in one button. Now it takes 8 very slow buttons to get that job done. Also, I used to be able to edit how a series was recorded in one visit to the series. Now you have to modify every "scheduled" episode or cancel all of them and start over. Please fix this terrible interface asap or just let me go back to the old one...

And I worked with Microsoft as a development partner for one of the big Five banks on a Branch Network UI redevelopment effort with the first large scale .NET implementation and every day we as an organization had to remind the Microsoft team that they were working for us not the other way around. We did the legwork with our users and designed an app to service the branches. Input was welcome but in the end it was our decision how things would be done. I do agree that this Navigatr issue has been mishandled from beginning to end

Oh puh-leeze. You are talking logic and usability. And we are talking Rogers 😞

I have to say that you have my sympathy for having been a test subject since July. We have only had it for a week and while it has usability issues, it has so far been very stable with not a single reboot during any time that we have been watching tv. Support isn't what it should be but when you hire outside firms to develop things for you this is what happens. Unless you have a contract in place that really punishes the contractor for problems, you get Navigatr. Outsourcing is argued to be cheaper but in the end, it hurts the reputation and the wallet as well.

Recently got back to looking at this forum! I was very active here starting on July the 28th. Those of you who recently were subjected to the NAVIGATR are very lucky we have been exposed to NAVIGATR for nearly 7 months.
Well as you all know we are no nearer to a PVR interface that equals the capabilities of the pre July 28 version, and it will be 7 months on the 28 Feb!
This whole experience has been very stressful to my wife and I to say the least! We actually had words over some of the problems it was that stressful. You can see one of my posts on page 1 of this forum, that was when we lost all our recordings and my wife really lost it!
Why are we still here? Well I thought that we will move on!
I approached a service man for the competition on our street and asked him about their well advertised service!
I will not name him to protect him, but he said do not change to them!
The reason is that B*** try to supply this subdivision of Bramalea via twisted copper wires that were buried in 1968!!
Bramalea was one of those new developments in the 60s where the planners did not allow overhead wires.
ROGERS and Hydro did upgrade their buried service a few years back but B*** did not have the capital so passed on the opportunity.
So unless I can find a source of high speed internet at this location we are trapped.
I hope this post does not get deleted as many of my previous have been termed unfriendly and chopped.
we are punch drunk from the abuse we have suffered, and we have never been informed of any previous events. Just silence! Never a word by phone, text or email.

Too funny. I posted the suggestion in the Idea Box. Perhaps if enough people hit the 'Like" button there it might actually get someones attnetion.
Another sugggestion : When looking at the list of recorded or scheduled recordings, the pretty visual contains no infomration. For example I might be looking a 9 images of NCIS and I cannot tell which is which - no way to tell what date/time or channel. Even selectiing the icon to read the description doesn't provide adequate information.
Suggestion: On the image, add a text overlay show that date/time/channel, eg

Someone decided, incorrectly, that you need to select the C button for Sort/Filter and choose go down to Show All Recordings and then Right Arrow to Show Shecduled Recordings and then Save Filter Settings to accomplish the same thing as clicking the List button twice
