Does anyone know when Ottawa will be getting the update? I realize there are some bugs with the software still, but I am totally looking forward to the new guide.

Navigatr arrived here this morning....I like it but it's going to be a bit of a learning curve, for want of a better expression.

Well …. the Navigatr has arrived in North York - along with its accompanying email touting how wonderful it is and pointing me to the FAQ page based on actual feedback from customers.

I was wakened this morning by angry muttering from my wife who had just turned on the TV saying that the guide was different.

I then introduced her to the “tiles” system, had a brief discussion - and got out of the room. She tends to yell loudly when something doesn’t meet her approval. She has a PVR about 1/3 full and already can’t find what she wants - and can find lot and lots of stuff that she no longer watches - but still scheduled.

I predict that this will not go well and the call that I had from a nice Bell lady yesterday was just in time.

I live in Ottawa and was left a voicemail yesterday (Jan 27th) saying I would be receiving the new guide soon.

I just received the email that I'm going to be upgraded.  I watched the FAQ videos and am NOT impressed that they changed the views from a nice easy to view LIST of shows to these huge icons with the name of  the show below the big blank grey icon.  So recordings can only be viewed by these huge icons and can't switch between date/title and searching a title used to show a nice, easy to read view on the right is now these huge grey icons on the bottom so you have to scroll through so much when it used to give you a simple list.

How designed this???

@luvsql There's only one answer, like for many unpleasant things we havd to accept these days. "Because it's 2016".

Just got the email here in markham.

"Over the coming weeks, we’ll be launching the new NavigatrTM guide for your NextBoxTM.

This upgrade will come to your NextBox automatically over the next few weeks."

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

Is there a way to avoid the Nav guide update? everything about it sounds aweful people are having thier drives wiped and even if it doesn't wipe out what you have the way the pvr functions both in how to set up recordings as well as how to access programs you've already recorded is horrible and much less convienent then the current version. This is another of Rogers HUGE mistakes forcing unwanted updates on customers, it's no wonder so many people are excited about Bell fibe

Upgrade? Okay, if this is truly an improved experience, can someone at Rogers or one of the Moderators tell me how to enable Closed Captioning while watching a recorded program with the latest version of Navigatr?

In the pre-Navigatr version I would press the Info button, left arrow twice to highlight the CC option, then press enter to toggle it on or off. IOW, it took 4 clicks to enable or disable Closed Captioning.

How does someone accomplish this with Navigatr 2.0?

Thank you.

Brett

So it seems Rogers tried pushing the new navigatr onto my PVR overnight.  Instead of improving my experience it seems to have killed it altogeher 😞

This morning my PVR flashes only --:-- Er:a1 Er:a2 Er:a4 .  Any attempt to reboot it fails as it simply returns to these errors the moment it gets power again.

Called rogers: they said to swap out thePVR or wait a week for a technician who has a 50% chance of recovering it.

I'd hate to loose my many months of recordings! Does anyone have advice for me? Is there a trick to recovering it?  Can i at least save my recordings on a hard drive and move them to a new nextbox?

BTW, my other whole home receiver got the update without a problem.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

its either one of two things...

A) it FAILED somehow on the update.. which has bricked the box.  Unfortunately that means that there usually is not any way to get the recordings 😞

B) Its just failing to GET the update.
It could be a signal issue to that specific box.. that its not getting the update/download properly.
Which generally then yes you would need a tech out, to check the signal, etc to that box.

An interim thing.. unplug your box that updated properly.. and move the other box to there.. see if it CAN pull the update?

I'm not a Rogers employee or a mod here, but here's your answer, which you won't like.  You currently cannot. See the following link posted earlier in this thread on how to enable CC.  You currently need to do it while watching live TV.  This needs to be fixed and you need to complain to Rogers and the CRTC as CC is mandated to work properly:

http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/PVR_settop_boxes_remotes/message...

So, if you're watching a live programme, instead of taking 4-5 button presses to enable CC on RTN (info < < Enter), it now takes 11 button presses.  If you're watching a recording, you need to exit the recording, enable CC with the 11 button presses and then find your recording again. This could take 20+ button presses depending on where your recording is in the list of recordings.  Un-be-lievable!  Yeah Rogers, this interface is a lot faster - NOT!

PS. I now have the Navigatr!

Edit - After doing more research now that I have Navigatr and following my instructions on moving north (up) instead of south (down), it's possible to enable CC in 6 clicks from a live programme.  Hit Info, up arrow, select, up, up, select.  Hope that helps.

From my understanding, you need to turn it ON live TV.. then go into a recorded program.. and then it should play.

Unfortunately.. unless you have a box which is on the OLD OLD SARA guide.. unfortunately there is no way to avoid it.

BUT.. the drive wipe issue SHOULDNT be happening anymore at least..

Thanks for the replies @57 and @Gdkitty.

I was plagued with the Navigatr upgrade when it first came out so I’m painfully aware of most of the issues, including having had content blown away on two separate occasions on different Nextbox 3’s.

I was hoping someone from Rogers would acknowledge that it takes a minimum of 11 clicks on the remote to simply activate CC, and this is assuming the program you're watching is the very first tile in the list. Add a few more if you’re watching something a few rows down or columns across in the list. We often use the CC when it’s hard to make out what’s being said, then turn it off again however Navigatr takes what used to involve a maximum of 8 clicks and turns it into a minimum of 22 to closer 26-28 clicks.

How can this be an improvement? Please can anyone at Rogers enlighten us?

Thank you.
Brett

On RTN you could do it in 4-5 clicks if you used the left arrow instead of the right arrow:  It was 5 clicks if DV was an option and 4 clicks if DV was not an option.  See the following link:

As an FYI on a different topic, I tried using "page up" to get to the "bottom" of my recordings when I bring up my list of recordings, but Navigatr doesn't allow for that functionality the way that RTN did.  It does allow the use of "page down" to skip to the next page, which basicially skips one line of tiles, but it doesen't allow you to go "around the world" when you're at the end of the list.  This would be useful to see your scheduled recordings quickly, which are at the "bottom" of your recordings.  It doesn't take me too long to get to scheduled recordings with repeated presses of "page down", but the "page up" when you're at the top of the list would be a "nice to have".)

I realize that you can use the "sort/filter" option, however, that's more cumbersome for me and also doesn't show scheduled recordings that are not in the guide for the next week.

Thanks @57 but I am talking about a recorded program, not live TV. This is where the 11 clicks come from, even factoring in moving north instead of south. Keeping in mind that there are even more clicks involved if your recording isn't the first one on the list.

What I'm hoping for is a response from someone at Rogers who will provide the necessary steps and confirm that Navigatr is definitely a new and improved experience for watching TV.

Thanks,

Brett

Because we all know its not improved which means it is false advertising. They are basing improved on the TV Guide side of things. The PVR side is not improved. It is more confusing and more work.

The TV guide side hasn't been improved either.

With RTN you could enable CC with fewer button presses.

With RTN you could navigate the "square" letter layout of the search  more quickly and with fewer clicks than the current two long lines.  At least Rogers didn't make it one long line of letters!   And they do allow you to go "around the world" to go from A to M with one click, unfortunately, most people probably don't think that way.  How about the option for a QWERTY layout?

As a touch-typist I never use the search on the PVR itself. I always use AnyPlace on my computer.

With RTN there was a mini guide - no real difference.

Although Navigatr may look pretty, no real functionality was added and most PVR functionality has been made more cumbersome.

I think what people are asking is, how do you enable CC when you want to watch recorded programs. Will going to live TV and enabling it also enables it on recorded programs after that? Or do you have to enable it before recording?
