Hi Community,

On December 15, 2015, I let everyone know that we had started to roll out the updated Navigatr guide.  Take a look here for that post.

As we continue to roll out the update, customers will be notified ahead of time that they will be getting the new software.

If you have received the updated Navigatr software (i.e. since December 15, 2015) and would like to ask a question and/or share your findings/learnings, please do so in THIS THREAD.

As always, the Community Guidelines and Terms of Use apply.

Thanks very much for keeping the community a pleasant place to be!

I WANT ANSWERS,

1. When is my box going to be fixed?

2. Why am I responsible for testing the software?

3. When am I going to be paid for testing YOUR software!

4. Do you feel its right for the stress you are causing me and the shows I am currently missing.

5. There should be an email sent to everyone in the effected area with some guidence and info on whats going on!

By the way, don't PM me, everyone here wants the same info I'm looking for.

ANSWERS, APPOLOGIES and things to be CORRECTED in a timely manner.

I think I can speak for all of us and say

Put us back to the previous software versions, at least they worked!!!!

Amen to that - you're certainly speaking for me.

Yes, Archer, I have had recorded programs vanish before my eyes, even with this new nonsense update.

Checked a recording this morning to be sure it was there - went to watch it this afternnon and it was gone.

Other scheduled recordings, and I check them before I go to sleep, are there but in the morning nothing has recorded.

Also, have to reboot each morning to get the piece of garbage going (along with 2 other boxes) and also several times during the day just to continue watching the tv.   If one more of these people monitoring this site say what a wonderful enhanced experience this new updated Navigatr is I shall spit!

I can do without the apologies. My time is very limited these days with my new "VOLUNTEER" WORK AT ROGERS - the pre-alpha testing of an attempt at coding without any of the preliminary (conventional) steps (that were found necessary in the past to create even semi-functional results) along with chasing after 1 of my 6 remotes to hit okay in time, is a full time <unpaid> job (IMO);

Each verbal apology takes at least 30 seconds; this multiplied by at least 30 times (Minimum) has used up 15 minutes! That is a coffee break!!!

Anyway IMO they are not sincerely sorry. "Talk is cheap" and "actions speak louder than words" really do apply here. (I think)

If I lose any of my videos I don't know what I would do. They all took so much effort (and time) since getting the BOX to record until the very end seems challenging to the manufacturer(s). I'd record as many of same as possible hoping at least ONE would finish when the movie did.

With the *new* navigational layout / features (mistakes), I find it especially hard to keep track of each copy.

Thank you

A Rogers person said earlier "If the box doesn't take the update correctly, it can cause these symptoms. ..."

I would predict when all is said and done, that this is the main issue. Updates are tricky at the best of times and doing them on the fly as rogers does it at any time of the day is a recipe for disaster. I have probably even rebooted/unpluged my box in the middle of updates unwittingly.

Anyway just a personal update, after many days of updates, reboots, no on/off function, freezes etc, the box has been stable and working nicely for a week or 2 now.

and I spoke too soon because at the stroke of midnight the set freezes in the middle of a program and a minute later starts to reboot... who knows what monster I will get now....

took 14 min to reboot/upgrade and now seems like before, time will tell

and now the 2am upgrade "Thank you for your patience"...eleven min but no reboot,,,

Jack - at least with your PVR barely working you will be exposed to fewer of the MANY Rogers commercials that are FILLING the airwaves right now bragging about how great Navigatr is, and how PROUD Rogers is to introduce it to us - and they BRAG about how much easier it is to find programs we want to watch - and how much faster to find programs.

So you must be confused.  🙂

Your TV viewing experience has been 'enhanced.'

Don't you know that your PVR is now 'new and improved.'

Rogers says Navigatr is wonderful.    We must all be very confused if we don't agree.

I mean - why would Rogers keep telling us again and again and again how much better Navigatr is - if it isn't?

I've Been Around

Just had Navigatr installed on our NextBox 3.0. Having a problem with the remote. It stops working and the only way to get it back is to reboot the NextBox which is a gigantic pain. Anyone else having this problem and has anyone figured out how to fix it.

Last night we were recording the hockey game and after it had been recording for an hour or so began to watch it (so we could skip commercials etc.).  Part way through the recording the remote froze and we could not pause, rewind, or fast forward.  Other shows were scheduled to record during this period.

When the game was over we pulled the plug. When the PVR came back up I checked the recordings.  The hockey game recording ended towards the end of the first period.  Another show that started recording also ended abruptly.  Another show that was scheduled to record while we were watching the game did not record at all.

I had hoped that perhaps the freezing was related to the 4 hour inactive timeout but this was not the case last night - my PVR was actively being watched.

Unacceptable.

I've Been Here Awhile

I was one of the first to get Navigator and earlier this week I received the fixed version. I was pleasantly surprised with the fixes. Not withstanding the tiles user interface, it looks as if many (if not all) the bugs have been fixed. The fonts are bigger and easier to read. The tile now shows the scheduled recording date (if applicable), the sort and filter options are retained even after you exit the list, when a recorded program is finished, it stays on that item so that you don't accidentally delete an unviewed program.

So, overall I think I can live with this version.

Hey folks. So my guide recently updated a few days ago. In addition to all of the other issues that I have seen discussed here, like the auto shut off, my closed captions no longer work properly. I have hearing problems so they are necessary for me. When I turn on the TV or change the channel, they work ok but are delayed. But after 5 minutes they turn to gibberish and then stop working all together. Is this a glitch with the update or my box? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi mpfc75;

Unfortunately, when the box becomes "unresponsive" it stops recording and no remote controls or the box control will work...you can continue watching whatever station or show you are on, but have no more control before you do a reboot.  I've talked to Rogers daily about this and apparantly we should be referring to this problem as "unresponsive" not freezing.  They consider freezing the picture itself freezing...I only mention this because they told me they have to send my problem back again (now on day 4 of this nonsense) to the engineers, as they have been investigating "freezing" not "unresponsive".

I noticed yours happened while you were watching the PVR...mine too.  I am wondering if Rogers has the sleep function set for the TV guide and channels only...i.e. if you don't change the channel or push a button in "Guide" mode, the whole thing goes to sleep.  I know this sounds ludicrous...but it seems very coincidental that they introduce the sleep thing and so many of us are having the same problem of our box becoming unresponsive.  I wonder if this sleep function is programmed wrong and is at the root of our problem?  AM HOPING SOMEONE AT ROGERS IS READING THIS AND TAKING THIS COMMENT TO ONE OF THE PROGRAMMERS TO EITHER FIX OR RULE IT OUT AS A CAUSE.  I'm not a big believer in coincidents, and obviously something is terribly wrong for so many of us to have this same problem.

Hey molly
That's why we signed up to be beta testers for Rogers. I for one am happy to pay them so they can debug their software.

I have just rebooted my box for the third time. Trying to watch the hockey game on CBC. I'm told the service is unavailable. Rogers you can mess with many things but Saturday night hockey is not one of them.

Now on the 6th reboot. Remote totally unresponsive. The hard drives on these things have got to hate all the hard resets.

Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016

Hello, @SDRF

Thank you for your continuous patience. Are you using HDMI cable between Nextbox and your TV? If so, would you please unplug the HDMI cable and reinsert it and see if this resolves the unresponsiveness.

Cheers,

RogersMoin

No the 6th reboot did the job. Only took me 45 minutes to watch basic cable. The problems seem to be getting worse rather than better.

RogersMoin:

1.Has Rogers tried replacing the HDMI with COMPONENT / COMPOSITE(S)??

2.During these UNRESPONSIVE periods, can one access the diagnostic screens?

{Hold [EXIT] until power light on BOX flashes twice (IF IT WILL).
Quickly press the [DOWN ARROW] TWICE and then the number [2] ONCE}

(I would try 2. but for whatever reason, It has been “responding”.)

A warning to all posters. Although Rogers DOES apparently have a sense of humour (after all what is Navigatr if not one of the biggest jokes in the world, and that joke about being proud to bring us an enhanced viewing experience and easier searches is an absolute howler too) apparently they do NOT understand sarcasm. Any sarcastic comments about how great it is and how the rollout should be speeded up are apparently being interpreted as sincere praise and a vote for Navigatr, and justification for the continued rollout and totally misleading advertising.

After all how else could you explain their totally risible claim that almost 4 customers approve of Navigatr to every one who disapproves. That is either an outright lie (or intentional manipulation of survey results) or Rogers has just inadvertently disclosed that for every one customer with a PVR there are almost 4 with only the set top box for Live & On Demand viewing. Unless you only use your PVR once or twice a week, or are on some mind altering unprescribed medication, how could a PVR user possibly approve of this amateurish attempt at software development with absolutely no quality control or real world testing done before rolling it out to customers who are expected to actually PAY for this garbage?

I would suggest Rogers need to take the total Cable portion of the monthly bills for EVERYONE with a PVR and Navigatr and multiply the amount by negative one, and continue this EVERY month until such time as EVERY bug reported in these forums is fixed. I'm sure that will make us all happy to be Rogers customers.
(sorry, forgot my own advice on sarcasm there).

Hi everyone. Thought I would paas on a comment from a seniour tech. I thanked the gor the fixes and then we discusse the freezing. He indicated the issue is purely software and not in the electronics or box it self. So he agreed with me that if the box is frozen only solution is to unplug and then when back reboot from trouble shooting. He and I troublesht together the black screen after on demand shows and sudden reboot on its own. Found that just end the show at credits tend to avoid it
He laughed at sggestions of signal strenth plug it into another plug try a different surge protectot or power bar trying different checking dianostic screens combinations of button pushes and so forth. He said none of these would help and it is known it is a bug in the software.

And he said absolutely don't factory reset or take the box unless recommended by a higher tier tech.

I told him of these superstitious unproven responses on varios sources and their own techs and he will look to getting a clear response. It is a software response it is being worked on but date known and he agreed all these kind attempts at solutions just frustrate.

He thanked me and gave a credit for being understanding and constructive.

I am dealing directly with just reporting issues as I experience to higher level techs because lower level techs can't do anthing with it. I also file complaints and compliments too

Stiil things I would like to see.

Stable no freezing and occassional freeze from on demand. Undefined ondemand. Cc missing and info for on demand. But ui can see a lot of work. They just released five months too soon on unsuspecting usere and crical failures still going on.

But we both agreed let's stay away from the undocumented some times plain silly suggestions on how to solve the problen

It has been good to have a break. I stil don't like the layout and boy it is cumborsome and a lot of clicks to do things but at least except for freezing it is generally useable

I like the play list but haven't tried yet. Also one othe missing one that is anyplace tv ondemand manage pvr is on the box software to see all channels an upcoming show is on to decide on which one to record and please put channels in descriptions.

There are a few more small itens but generally pleased. I have an open ticket and now unfortunately they obviosly had a mess to clean up in the last one. Hope these last fixes come but I will let them work on it and continue with my health care work. I got permission to pop in compliment and give constructive feedback. Then my wife locks me out again

I know it is frustration for all in particular those who aleasy are into six months and now the new ones. Hang in there keep feeding your issues and if a recommendation does not make sense don't do it and go to a higher level technical tier.

Enjoy the new year. Bruce

Yes I learned that I describe the item step by step and let them define condition they are reporting. Example after watching two on demad shows in a row rather tha return to the coice screen screen went black anthen rebooted. It happened also with only one but has never happened if I don't watch credits end show cacek then pick next show. Binge watching on tmn. Or I was recording two show in a row on same channel. Found that screen froze recording light still on and not able to input from any on off pushes at box or any button pushes or combination. Only solution was unplug. Inerestinlg second recorded show was there with gap during reboot time. I have tried the business with power on keys numerals or buttons to no avail. Senior tech says this is not a supported solution. It is a bug they have to find and fix. Bruce
