I'm Here A Lot

Hello, I'm wondering will I be charged for texts incoming? I have unlimited domestic texting plan. That's what it shows here as long I have a domestic or travel pack add on incoming text messages are free?

I contacted them through live chat. The rep told me it's free incoming worldwide.
So that's good 🙂

Hello icedog95

It all depends on the Country /City you are going to. I am sure it does BUT play it safe and best to call in, have them check it out to see if it does. If it does, ask them for receiving and sending and if it does, ask them to leave a note on your account saying so and get the interaction number for that note!

You sure it's free? Because that's what it says for worldwide as long I have a domestic or travel pack add on. I have the domestic unlimited texting plan

Hello icedog95

That is why i said for the best solution is to call them and ask them.. You can use Rogers Live Chat as well and see what they say. I remember having the domestic unlimited text package a year ago and was fine.

Best solution like i said is to to call in and ask. Have them write down the answer on your account and give u the interaction number. This way anything happens and they are wrong and u get charged for no reason, u have proof they told u that its free.

Hello icedog95

Glad to hear!. The problem is be very careful if you text back that person. Charges will be applied ( if the plan does not have unlimited outgoing text messages). I would contact them again if possible & see if there is a plan or something which lets u send a texts messages worldwide.

Yes I'm looking into a plan I could get to save me money. But it's free incoming regardless of a travel pack the rep told me. But he said the .75 cents do add up if you don't buy a pack..

Hello icedog95

That is correct. Incoming is free but outgoing will be charged. Buying a pack is a good way to do it.

Receiving text messages and calls without an add-on plan

If I take my phone to Europe, but do not purchase an add-on plan, will I be charged if I receive a text? Also, will I be charged if I get a phone call but do not answer it?

Thanks

Allan

Re: Travelling to Europe Receiving text messages and calls without an add-on plan

Good day @allanp,

Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums and thank you for your contribution!

I understand your need to ensure you can control the amounts you will be charged, for your cell phone usage, while abroad. We certainly want to help you shed some light on this topic.

First of all, to answer your question, you should not be charged for calls that you don't answer or for incoming text messages, if you're covered for texts while physically in Canada. If you have a regular add-on or if it's part of your plan, the incoming SMS won't be billed.

However, if you do not purchase a travel pack or do not enroll to Roam Like Home the outgoing messages will be charged at $0.75/text.

In the instance where you need to answer a phone call, or if you need to place one, the pay-per-use rate for Europe is $2/minute.

To ensure that you are not billed for data transmissions, or to make sure you're not generating the Roam Like Home daily fee, you need to turn "Data Roaming" OFF in the Network Settings of your phone. Many devices have roaming turned off by default.

I hope this information addresses all of your inquiries. Don't hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions. Smiley Wink

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for the response. That is exactly the information I was looking for. I do have unlimited texting in Canada, so according to your answer, if I receive a text in Europe it should be free. I have not decided yet whether to take a travel plan.

Thanks again

Allan
