Slow internet connection on Ignite 250u

Good evening folks!

Last  few weeks I had excellent speed... but today we are having some funky weather on the atlantic coast, mild snow storm type weather... The start of the day everything was normal and just recently up until about 2 -3 hours ago i noticed pages taking longer to load and hearing my kids scream about lag on their xboxes..  So i did a speed test... my ping was normal 52ms... but my Download and Upload were ancient speeds... Download was 2.78Mbps and upload 0.68Mbps on a 433Mbps AC Wifi Connection. thinking maybe it was all the apps i had open i decided to check my Wired Gigbit Connection Desktop and same thing slow slow speeds.. I called Tech support and they mentioned noise lvls on the upstream causing errors, lag, disconnects and such... just wondering is this just a weather phenomenon or maybe loose lines?

Re: Slow internet connection on Ignite 250u

Just an update that this issue has been resolved.

After calling daily for a week to enquire about my ticket status, I contacted Rogers again and told them my internet wasn't working (I didn't tell them I already had a ticket this time).

They tested my line and finding intereference on it, send a tech the next day.

After doing all his tests (including running a new line from the box) they determined there was a problem at the "main" box (for the entire area). It was fixed the next day.

If they are noticing alot of noise/signal issue.. likely yes.

HOPEFULLy just the weather causing it.. and once it calms down would go back to normal.

Not always a huge amount that can be done now, but as the spring comes, might be worth getting a tech out to check everything at the house there, to make sure that everything is good (update connections, splitters, etc)

Re: Slow internet connection on Ignite 250u

Hopefully its just the weather as Gkitty indicates.  You could do the following, just to check the signal levels.  Log into the modem, navigate to the DOCSIS WAN page, copy the downstream and upstream tables and paste them into this thread.  Take note of the numbes when you have slow service, and then look at them again when the speeds are back to normal, assuming that they return to normal speeds quickly.

Having speed issues... especially on Upload.
Latest test shows 1.68Mbps upload on a 250u Plan (250/20)

Below are my signal levels.  Cable is plugged to the modem. No splitters/boosters.  No TV.

This is still happening. There is a ticket in (interference in my area), but it's been almost a week.. What are the odds that this will get looked at anytime soon, since I'm probably the only one complaining?

Re: Slow internet connection on Ignite 250u

Still no luck on getting this fixed, and it seems to be getting worse with time.

Latest test gives me 168Mbps / 2.11Mbps on a 250/20 plan.

Can one of the forum guys do anything about  getting this looked at?

Re: Slow internet connection on Ignite 250u

@jpbazinet, your downstream and upstream signal levels are ok.  Do you happen to have the ticket number?  If so, I'd call into Tech Support and enquire on the progress of that ticket.  I'd be calling in every day if necessary.

Can you load pingplotterpro from www.pingplotter.com.  It will run in PRO mode for 14 days before it kicks down to Freebie mode if you don't buy the intermediate or advance licence.  When you have that loaded, run a test session out to something like google.ca.  When the application is running, right click on the top title bar to bring up the column menu.  Select MAX and JTTR to display those colums and drag those colums right so that their sitting beside the MIN colum.  In the Focus drop down menu on the upper right, select ALL for now so that it displays the extreme values of the MIN, MAX, Jitter and Packet loss data and averages the ping times from the time that its selected.  This will show if at some point you have packet loss problems, even if that comes and goes.  Drag the bottom area up to the bottom of the data area to expand the scaling.   Let that run for three to four minutes.  Then, select Edit .... Copy as Image.  Dump the clipboard contents to something like MS paint, wipe out the line 1 address as it will most likely be an IPV6 address for your modem and then save that image.  Run another test but this time change the Focus time in the upper right to 30 seconds.  This will show if you have ongoing packet loss problems as the data lookback is only 30 seconds instead of all of the data

Insert those images into a post and indicate which Focus time is applicable..

With the ping times displayed in pingplotter, we might have a better idea of what the problem.  That won't help expedite the process, but, it will give you a better understanding of the problem.

Can you run the above test pingplotter test via ethernet, just to rule out any wifi issues.
