Samsung Galaxy S6 5.1.1 Update

AccordXTC

I had noticed at the begining of June the OS upgrade page said that we'd see the 5.1.1 for our phones same month and that now has changed to Coming Soon! Anyone know what hapened or why Rogers backed from releasing the update.

The memory leak on this phone is a big killer on the device, restarting and closing out apps is a bandaid fix I'd like to see go away. Any mods know if or when will see this update?

I know what I am asking sounds silly but the reason for that is because companies like to boast about their acheivements such as implementing the voLTE feature before anyone else to remain competitive in the market. Such as this press release. This way they can retain existing customers and attract new customers as darkadam has mentioned.

What they fail to do is when there are issues such as what we have experienced for 2 months, and now find out a feature that was enabled is being disabled to fix something else, you don't see them releasing an apology statement or press releases outlining the difficulties faced to remove a feature that was once enabled.

I also know a friend who is a developer at Telus, and he mentioned that Telus has also been considering and working on voLTE for several months, but they haven't rolled it out yet. I am sure the richest company of all, Bell is also doing some work on voLTE. Rogers rushed into something it wasn't properly prepared for and they should accept their mistake.

Some of you guys really make me laugh with your complacency. Rogers fixes one issue by disabling another and even though it's not a critical feature, it is a feature nonetheless. You find it hard to understand why people would be upset and that "life is too short". Well, we don't understand how you can sit back and not care. I for one would like all the features to work without sacrifice. I feel that i am within my right to sweat the small stuff when it comes to my money.

VoLTE works on Rogers, so does WiFi calling, but only on Apple iPhones. So it's not a matter of Rogers Network not supporting the feature, it's Samsung having firmware issues with Canadian Carriers causing the issue. I have an iPhone, all my calls use VoLTE without issue, doesn't matter who I'm calling, every call stays on LTE, also I have WiFi calling when I connect to WiFi.

I'm sure Samsung had to disable VoLTE and Video Calling so you guys can receive phone calls/texts, eventually they'll add the feature back, but for now they released this quick fix. Perhaps when they push out Marshmellow it'll contain working VoLTE and Video Calling, as I'm sure Samsung is putting more rescources in that update than supporting 5.1.1

What quick fix are you talking about?

there have been 6 weeks now since this problem arise. This stupid quick fix shuld have arrived after one week eventually, and until now a real fix.

Disabling features to make basic function works is stupid; And stop blaming Samsung; I did not bought my phone from Samsung; I bought the high end, super expensive, features rich phone that Rogers sell. False advertising is illegal.

If their test engineers, programers and whoever works on this phone are just incompetents then Rogers should have not put this phone on sale; if this smartphone is to smart for them and they can't keep up with latest features, they should sell it at motorola prices at beast.

Yea if they are advertising the feature and after a month and a half just ended up disabling that very feature... That is false advertising straight up... I just did some test calls and voLTE is Def not working. Quite honestly I don't really use it myself but I also assumed that video calling on it used my data somehow... Now I'm a tad bit annoyed...

If features have been disabled I'm sure we will not hear from Rogers regarding this and this will just get the social media back lash going again. About to update my phone but I was hoping would resolve the issues for once and for all, sadly not Rogers.

Ok, so just for fun let's have everyone weigh in. I've actually thought a lot about this over the past 6 months and looked at it closely. If Rogers came to you tomorrow and said we'll take your phone back and let you out of your contract without penalty, where would you go?

Telus? - Which is the premier choice these days in my opinion for purely telephone uses, call clarity, etc. But it will cost you slightly more and will not have quite as much network coverage and speed. Of course no VoLTE there nor Roam Like Home options yet that I know of.

Bell? - Similar pricing, probably a little cheaper, but TERRIBLE, and I mean TERRIBLE customer service... the worst (research it, really), sub par network, still don't even have an update out for this issue... still no VoLTE as well for though that need it.

The Koodo's, Fido's, Chatr, etc. are simply budget options that may work for some if you don't leave the city much.

Not looking for an argument, just opinions on what you'd do.

Hey Community,

I'm sure you all saw our announcement here: http://roge.rs/1QslcdJ

As detailed; we’ve been working around the clock with Samsung to get the right fix in place and as of yesterday (November 16th) it began rolling out in phases from November 16th to 30th.

The OTA download limit will be regulated to around 5 to 10 thousand downloads every few days. But you can connect your S6 or S6 Edge to Samsung Smart Switch anytime and download the update there.

Remember to turn VoLTE back on after your update.

Settings >Applications >Phone > VoLTE-Use VoLTE when available.

If anyone is having VoLTE calling issues please follow the following trouble shooting steps:

Power Cycle the device 30-45 minutes after updating. (Especially if you're updating from a non-VoLTE enabled OS version)

Confirm your device has updated successfully: 'Build Number Ending in BOJ7'

Test VoLTE calls in 2-3 different locations.

If still having issues, please reach out to us @CommunityHelps and we'll assist further.

In the interim, if you have not updated your S6 or S6 Edge; we still recommend you follow the troubleshooting steps here if you’re continuing to experience problems.

Steps: Manually drop the device to 3G/GSM from the Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode options.

What we do not recommend is flashing non Rogers software on your Rogers device – doing this can cause issues with performance and affect your device’s warranty.

Thank you,

RogersDarrell

How do you get the update off of Samsung Smart Switch? I've opened it and only can see options on how to transfer data between phones.

Thanks

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 5.1.1 Update

Hello, I've been having issues with my phone ever since the 5.1.1 update. Yesterday, the patch came up as available for download, so I downloaded it hoping for a fix. I've done everything in your message (Power cycled my phone and everything). I also made sure that the build number was correct. The issues continue! I don't have access to LTE or mobile data in general unless I downgrade to GMS where the internet is VERY slow. Please advise as how to fix this issue as soon as possible. It's been longer than a month with these issues.

Benny,

The update option should been offered to you first time when you open the software and connect the phone;

else, you go in more > preferences > software update

@ Rogers Darrell can you confirm that Rogers has disabled video calling ?

@RogersDarrell yes confirmation about state of video calling would be great and as well. I did a hard reset of my phone and tried calls from my work, home and in a city nearby and none of the calls are going over LTE... Keeps switching to 4g... So it's seems as if it's not even working period.

Hey everyone,

As posted previously here, if you're having VoLTE or any other problems completed the following.

1. Remember to turn VoLTE back on after your update.

Settings >Applications >Phone > VoLTE-Use VoLTE when available.

 2.  Power Cycle the device 30-45 minutes after updating. (Especially if you're updating from a non-VoLTE enabled OS version)

3. Confirm your device has updated successfully: 'Build Number Ending in BOJ7'

4. Test VoLTE calls in 2-3 different locations.

VoLTE Compatibility (must not have the following active/turned on)

Wi-Fi Calling (supported on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus only)

  • Apple has not enabled VoLTE video calling on their devices as they have FaceTime available.
  • iPhone 6s and 6s Plus user will have to toggle Wi-Fi calling on and off to enable VoLTE.
  • Extended Coverage
  • Rogers One Number
  • Ringback Tunes
  • Parental Control Data Block SOCs
  • Advanced Call Manager
  • “Common Voicemail” (Legacy Voicemail product)
  • Alternative Line Service
  • TeleTYpewriter (TTY)
  • Wireless Priority
  • UMA Hotspot
  • Datacom, CS Data, FAX, USSD Services

If still having issues, please reach out to us @CommunityHelps via PM. We will gather your cellular info and open a Case for further investigation.

Cases help track and correlate any issues that are experienced. With this information we can work with OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and help build a better experience.

@RogersDarrel so are you saying Rogers has not disabled the video calling feature on the patch to 5.1.1, I can make voice calls over the LTE network...and I am aware that the person im calling must also have video calling enabled on their phone.

Just a heads up, Telus and Bell have the same coverage, they built their network together sharing Towers, however the backhaul, core network, and billing system is seperate. Bell does have the worst customer service, I was with Bell for 15 years, and I know first hand how bad it is. But Bell's network is actually really good, lots of fiber backhaul, consistant LTE speeds, fast download and upload. Rogers tuned their network for fast downloads, but slower uploads, rogers also doesn't have as much fiber backhaul.

To everyone having problems with VoLTE still not working, follow the steps Rogers posted making sure VoLTE is turned on, then after 30mins turn your phone off for 5 minutes, then power back on. If it still doesn't work then call Rogers and make sure they have your IMEI on the account, then ask them to reset the network on their end.
