Samsung Galaxy S2

I spoke with a Rogers rep and he said that they will not be getting the S2 yet. He said probably not until earliest September, but more likely even later in the year.

Too bad...its an amazing phone, but I've been saving my upgrade for months and months for the S2 only to be disappointed that I have to wait for everyone else to get it first.

Futureshop will be offering the S2 LTE at 149.99 for a 3 year plan starting this Friday.

What the **bleep** is going on man.

That's another $30 off the 179.99 price.

The raider is going for $99.99 which is pretty wicked too.

So what's our steps now?

I already got rogers to credit back $20 for yesterdays adjustment.

Will they offer another $30 for this now? Or they would rather me return the phone and do my HUP with Futureshop?

FINALLY !!!    Just got a call that the reserved phone is at the Rogers Plus store.

Now, do I wait until Friday to pay $149.99 @ Future Shop ?   Maybe I'll try customer service, mention the impending price drop by Future Shop, and see if they will "pre-match".

Kinda wish I hadn't seen this Future Shop price drop.  Can't wait to get to the store though !!!

I was just about to post this too!  guess I'll drop by the store tomorrow and see if they can do anything about it.  If not my talk time on the phone is only like 30sec since yesterday lol

And as for battery life it seems to be lasting longer than my captivate... this morning unplugged the phone at 6:45... but no seat on the go train so I was gmail chatting for a good 20min and browsing the web got into union at around 8:20.  did some texting during the morning and then at around 2pm batt life was still at 67%.

You may find that the new vs. HUP is not a hard and fast rule...rogers and others will more often then not bend or break this "rule"

those prices are ONLY if you go into future shop.. You cant get it for that price at rogers since future shop has there OWN prices.

Glad to hear, shaggy! It has been so long since I used a HUP that I have no idea how stores like Future Shop and Best Buy handle this anymore..... but I am in desperate need of a new phone (using a blackberry pearl FLIP, yuck!!!) and am not willing to pay full price.

I realize the pricing in independant FS will get commission vs Rogers getting commission for the phone sale/HUP.

So my question is then is it worth it?

Will FS even do it for HUP? or will they only offer that price to new customers?

I find that FS could care less.

I renewed my wife's plan at best buy mobile for the 3 year term pricing a month ago.

Therefore I ask... would Rogers rather keep your business or take back the phone withint he 15 days buyer remorse rule and let you walk away to FS to buy this at $30 less?

It's not a big hassle for me. $30 is significant savings.

I know from experience, that depending on the CSR that you speak to, their "flexibility" varies.  rogers is not in the business of losing business, so, with the right CSR and some finagling...you might be surprised at just how much you can get.  🙂

I, personaly have chosen to wait a few days before calling rogers regarding their pricing and my plan, simply because there will be more ammunition on my sdie when I do call.

MAN!!!  I can't believe just how many pages are missing from the "rogerized" Owners Manual!!  A quick comparison between the AT&T version and the "rogerized" manuals...makes me feel like I am at the mercy of some Corp.. I.T Admin. Dept.!1

ROGERS!, it's OUR phone!! not yours!!  I really hope that when ICS rolls out that we can download directly from Samsung via Kies, and not some Sanitized, "rogersized" NEUTERED version!!

OK folks here are my observations after having this phone for four days. Battery life is about 24hrs with Very Light usage. Do not get a case with a magnet closure as it seems to knock out reception completly. I was in a meeting all day today and had put my phone in a new "e-bay" case with a magnetic closure. Result was no reception at all whilst in the case. I had to take it out and switch it to HSPA to regain the signal. Downtown Ottawa getting just 4G no LTE.

The pricing issue is burning my A**. I will be either returning the phone or getting Rogers to price match.

Ohhhhh and the phone I reserved showed up today at my Rogers store. I picked up my phone on Saturday afternoon from a batch that was shipped for general release.

Ok 4 day in possesion of the phone...... battery: regular use or + regular use 10 h. , .almost no use 20h, this is ok I gess, now about the price drop, any one know how rogers work about returning devices? I cakk rogers and thwy tell me that can't mach the price drop.... so i stak with $ 199.00 , but the paper said I have 15 day to return the device..... can I go back to my old plan and ask for a full refound? walk into the store and buy back the phone for a cheaper price? any one, any one????

yup yes you can. within 15 days as long as voice is under 30 min.

ive noticed quite a few things different 😞 theres no media hub or ebook hub like there is on the regular samsung galaxy s2 from bell. anyone know how to get these??? also theres no where to check for updates for the phone??? how do we update when the new update comes??

I've had the phone 4 days (since Saturday).  First android phone.

My comments & observations:

1. the phone is the SGH-I727R.  You can find the manual on the samsung.ca site
2. battery life is pretty short compared to my last phone (E71) but from the few posts I've seen on this, I guess this is OK
3. it's fast (I mean in response handling)
4. the indicator icons seem a little wonky.  one of them (a down arrow above a line) can show up multiple times
5. voice commands don't work for me, e.g. doesn't pick up names from my address book (e.g. text <name> I'm coming). 
6. speaker phone is tinny
7. I press the volume button when I'm trying to lock the phone with one hand
8. I called CS and got the $20 credit taking the price down to $179.  Will see next week if anything happens because of the FutureShop sale
9. The navigate voice is hard to hear in the car but I don't think that's the phone.  The E71 was much better
10. I love the pulldown to turn on/off wifi/bt/etc.
11. the coolest app I've found so far is Google Sky.  I LOVE THIS APP!
12. I set up the very bottom keys to always stay lit (until the screen is locked), I find that much better.

Having said all that, I'm still happy with the phone so far.  I don't have the LTE data plan, so can't say what that's like.  And I'm looking for a good protective case if anyone's found one yet.

For everyone that is thinking about calling Rogers to get another credit off for the phone. YOU CANT. Future shop makes their OWN prices in which Rogers will not price match. You can cancel with rogers AND THEN go get it from Future shop for that price.

It's true.  I also spoke with Rogers and though some Rogers stores may offer price matching, it's at their discretion.   There will be no price matching over the phone, even at Retentions.  Was just off the phone with Retentions and in my case, they waived 120$ of early upgrade fees but did not match the price of the phone with Futureshop's add.
