I spoke with a Rogers rep and he said that they will not be getting the S2 yet. He said probably not until earliest September, but more likely even later in the year.
Too bad...its an amazing phone, but I've been saving my upgrade for months and months for the S2 only to be disappointed that I have to wait for everyone else to get it first.

Oh look!
Yet another provider who has the Galaxy S II out before Rogers!
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/ON/samsung_galaxy_s_II_x/index.shtml?eVar6=link
You know, 42mbps isn't much noticibly different from 75mbps for most people....
And the hardware specs look pretty similar too.
Anyone up for cancelling Rogers and going to Telus?
Edit: Didn't realize that link didn't have the release date.
October 28th.

and what is the difference between the Super AMOLED plus display on the Galaxy S2 and the HD Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Nexus???
The HD AMOLED has a 1280-800 resolution, so it's just a higher resolution and dpi than the plus. The Nexus will be the better phone, depending on what you are looking for, obviously the screen is better and it will also be on ice cream sandwich. The phone is bigger though, and some alrady feel the S2 is already bug for some people.
And the HD AMOLED is reportedly a pentile display (with subpixels) like the original SAMOLED screens (e.g. Captivate). This isn't 100%, but that's the word on the tech forums/blogs.
Yeah, Endadget/Ars just confirmed it -- it's a PenTile display. I'm definitely not interested in the Nexus now, that and the lack of a card slot.
Speaking of disinterest, since it's looking more and more like the Rogers version of the GS2 LTE is not going to have the Exynos, my interest is flagging on that too.

Well, finally decided to stop reading and post something about the Galaxy S2.
Recently got sick of Apples crap and decided to switch over, happily paid the $40 thinking that the phone would arrive in early October as promised(somewhat); needless to say, just cancelled my reservation and am buying an unlocked S2.
If Rogers had addressed at least some of our comments on this thread I might have changed my mind, but come on, even if they could have given us a single straight response they could have kept me around.
Disappointed in all this, hopefully the rest of you will get your phones soon!
Best of luck, and I'll be sure to free myself from Rogers when my contract is up.

All cell phone companies are the same. They will all screw you in different ways. The best way to do it is by NOT signing a contract. Get a prepaid service ( I use Fido, and can cancel or change my plan whenever I want with NO penalties ) and buy your phone outright. That way you are in control of what you can or cannot do. Fido has been pretty fair to me thus far. Ive heard horror stories about them as well (they are afterall an affiliate of Rogers I believe, I know they use the same Network) but if you are not locked into a contract, you are much better off. Especially when calling and complaining about an issue, because they know you have the option to walk away at any given time and go with another company. It just gives you a little bit of leverage.

I might as well come in the mix...
I'm currently on queue at 509...I want to add my sense of frustration about Rogers' inability to respond to any of our complaints. The product owner/manager for this device should be fired to mishandling its launch. They're utterly clueless or simply careless about customer service. Regardless of the outcome, I promised myself to go take the time today and remaining time rogers is taking to get back to us, to evaluate the cost of transfer to another carrier, since I have more than 5 products and services with them.
Great job Rogers...way to handle the demand for such a great product!

Will it be possible to upgrade the GS2 with Ice cream sandwich at some point?
10-21-2011 12:36 PM
Just saw a post of FB from Samsung Canada...... says the S2 LTE is coming soon. At least they've got a webpage up for us to drool over now! Hopefully we don't have to drool for too much longer.

You should be able to, yes.

I've just cancelled my reservation ... I have a Bold 9000 now, and thinking that my intro to the Android Family might be something a bit more reasonable, like the Galaxy Infuse. On a 3 year it's only 1¢! I still need to do a bit of a HUP and I'm generally pleased with Rogers, so I don't really want to leave.
Getting a good Android phone NOW for a low price, makes more sense than being frustrated with this reservation cycle. Good luck to everybody who's hanging in!

I'm not making ANY accusations here, but as there is no response from Rogers this is where my mind takes me. An agreement with Apple to ensure a higher standing in order processing priority isn't something that would be put on paper, but pretty much any other reason for this lack of communication on when the SGS2 will come or even where it is in the chain would easily be posted. Even it it's just "Billy in purchasing screwed up and didn't submit the PO to Samsung".
When there is no reason given I can't help, but think "There is no reason that can be given without admitting guilt". Maybe some investigation by the CRTC or RCMP would shed light on this "lack of communication".

The real problem is the government's regulations on telecoms requiring that a majority share be held by Canadian citizens. This is preventing the much needed competition in the industry that would help bring things such as customer service and prices in line with other countries.
10-21-2011 01:44 PM
Well put, but how do we stop it?
Of course, when you call Rogers for support, it is ALWAYS customer equipment that is the problem.
Same with Telus internet. Haven't dealt with Bell, but a few people I know testify about problems Bell has with continuing to bill after the account is cancelled and then sending the "past due" file to collections.
The problem really lies with us. We need our toys. My parents owned a small town store for a couple of decades, 80 miles from the nearest city. Many of the townsfolk would flock to the stroes in the city on a weekly basis, because they could save $0.25 on a $5 item. That kind of mentality allows huge chains like wal-Mart not only to exist, but to be so big they have no real competition. When you have no serious competition who cares if some poors saps have to wonder you aisles for hours looking for help finding a screwdriver. They're still gonna buy a loaf of bread before they leave the store.

@pklungel - I think I might have to join you and purchase the Infuse with my HUP for 1cent.

guys, this is great! i checked out the link to the samsung canada page that says the lte is coming soon (sorry i dont remember who posted it)
but if you go to samsung canada's facebook page, is specifically says the telus samsung s2 is coming october 28th, and the ROGERS LTE WILL ARRIVE SOON AFTER!!!
this is the best thing we've heard since, as its coming directly from samsung themselves....
it's the second best thing we have to trusting a reliable source

Hey drummer....that IS great news! I am just wondering why Telus is releasing theirs 1st? I thought that Rogers was about a month ahead of them?

shaggyskunk:
im wondering the same thing....
my only assumption is that rogers took too long of a time and decided to give telus a more exclusive launch...if i was samsung, i'd be pissed with rogers too lmao
or perhaps the lte version is not ready on samsung's end?
actually, i think what rogers tried to do is spoil Bell's release of the S2 and tell its customers basically "dont switch over we're releasing it too" so that they could keep customers.....
atleast they didnt cancel it!
but im just really happy FINALLY we got some feedback that we've been looking for!

Depends on the defiition of soon. Rogers says just in time for the holiday season I guess that starts after haloween.?? and before Dec.25th Rogers has been saying soon since last month.
