over the last months we have seen a veritable firestorm of posting and replies regarding the Rogers-provided SMC D3GN cable modem/router. Let me first state that I am not an owner/user of the device. However, I stumbled across the following website mentioned almost tangentially in another posting in this Forum:
The Posting which mentioned the above URL did not, in my opinion adequately mention the valuable information to be found there.
For all those using the SMC D3GN device, I urge you to surf over to the above URL's. They provide interesting and valuable Admin screen information, as well as more comments from experienced users of the device.
I believe no documentation is provided with the device, but the above-mentioned site will get you started nevertheless.
So, if you have an SMC D3GN, check it out. It may help you if you are havibg problems.
Re: SMC D3GN Modem Admin Screen login and other interesting info
Thanks for the post.
I know there was something missing that customers were not being told.
Just going through the real admin settings, I now realize the SMC D3GN - RRR is not worth the spend of your hard earn money to buy. If you need to use because you have Rogers service, then rent it. Pretty sure it will be phased out in a very short time.
The device does not even have a time zone setting for (UTC 05:00) Eastern Time (Canada & US) in the list of time zones, nor a DST option. No wonder they set it to 000 - GMT by default.
I also see no settings for IPv6 addressing. It is not an IPv6 ready router so DO NOT BUY IT if you have interest in using it in future as an IPv6 router.
