To make the answer a bit clearer, Rogers Online Protection is a group of applications that can be used to protect your computer. It includes an Anti-virus and Anti-spyware program that provides protection against attacks from viruses including Trojan horses and worms and detects and quarantines spyware before it harms your computer, a Firewall application that prevents unauthorized users from accessing your computer, Parental Controls that safeguard your children from inappropriate online content, Privacy Controls that manage your online privacy by clearing cookies, browser cache and history. It is a real-time application that automatically protects you when you are online and it stays up to date by auto-updating.

Note that Rogers Online Protection is an application similar to Norton 360, Symantec Online Protection, or McAfee Total Protection or McAfee Internet Security. If you already have one of these, you really don't need ROP, but if you don't have any of these, the advantage to ROP is that it is free as long as you are a Rogers customer.

Thank you for your clarification, sleaf62 ! I would just add that currently we offer two Rogers Online Protection packages:

1.Rogers Online Protection Basic which is free, and includes Antivirus, Antispyware, Parental Controls

2. Rogers Online Protection Premium which is $4.99/month, and includes Firewall, Privacy Controls, Safepay and Search Advisor in addition to all of the features of the free Online Protection Basic.  For example, Safepay is a cool feature that allows you to open sensitive webpages such as banking or online shopping sites in a separate browser which runs in a safe environment, known as a sandbox, with a virtual keyboard for additional protection. This product prevents browser-based threats from exploiting vulnerabilities to gain control of your system. You can use Safepay when making online payments, visiting banking sites or even web pages you suspect may contain malware.

Has anyone else noted how much slower the Definitions Updates are these days and how they slow down access to programs?
I fail to understand why some can take 20 minutes or morre and even up to 45 minutes?
Why can't we have the option to download the updates when we want to rather than them being done automatically several times a day.
I don;t line being held 'hostage' while this updating is in progress!!

Dump ROP and get the free Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, way better, leaner, faster. ROP is based on Norton, known to be a resource drain.

There are many who would advise against installing ROP. I know that installing Rogers software has caused me problems in the past - so much so that even Rogers tech support advised me to uninstall!

You won't be glad when you install it.
ROP is a problem maker.

Antivirus software is a program and should protect your computer no matter where you use it. But I have to reiterate what was said above - ROP is garbage and you would be wise to get something else! Never, under any circumstances, should you ever install any kind of software from Rogers. If you do, you are asking for trouble!

Re: Rogers Online Protection?

@jl-nath:

as IHR states, the anti-virus program you use on your PC should protect you no matter where you connect to the Internet: at home, at work, at a WiFi hotspot, or where ever.

And, as IHR, and numerous others have mentioned, do not use ROP.  Rogers is not a software vendor, nor are they anti-virus specialists.  It just is not their priority.

There are a number of other options available out there, several for free, which you can download off the Internet.  So, do a little research, and get yourself something to keep your computer safe.

Thanks for the info.

Rogers Online Protection

I keep getting billed for Rogers Online Protection even though I told them three times that I use Kasperskey Security. I stopped using Rogers Online Protection since October 2012 and am still being charged. Anybody know if I could get my $4.99 per month back into my bank account, since October 2012.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Rogers online protection is the one from Kapersky. If you are paying for this garbage, it likely means that you have signed up for Online Protection Premium. You should give them a call and cancel it. There are much better free anti virus programs out there than anything you would get from Rogers!

Re: Rogers Online Protection?

Why doesn't Rogers offer free registry cleanup, free removal of temporary files and all the other components offered free by Comcast to their US users?  For a list of areas covered, check out Norton Security Suite and see what is missing from Rogers.  Having to pay for it is unacceptable.   Wouldn't it be cheaper to let users manage their own security rather than constantly having to phone the call centres?

Re: Rogers Online Protection?

Rogers, nor ANY provider, doesnt HAVE to provide any form of system security.  That responsibility is 100% on the owner.

That rogers, and others (like comcast), provide anything, is a BONUS to the customer.

Removal of temp files, etc, can all be done through windows for zero cost, or other free software.

Truthfully in the end.. MOST of the time, the software that is provided via the ISPs is SUB PAR software to begin with.. they are not experts in virus protection, etc.

A person is better to use one of the MANY.. FREE other virus/malware solutions out there, which do a much better job to begin with

Re: Rogers Online Protection?

I totally disagree.  Check out the Norton Security Suite and see what is provided re:  registry cleanup for example.  I spent many hours searching for a free programme and while they will scan your computer for free, they will  NOT fix the problems and clean your registry or temp files.  Every programme charges between $40 for 6 months - 1 year for one computer.  Microsoft Essential is good for security but not the other components of the Norton package.
