@MythenI have been watching over the 2hrs , have you needed to refresh your browser? I haven't, I did catch the stream needing to buffer only a few times(I think once or twice). Started running more streams after, I'm running 3 streams right now. If you open Chrome, use the inspector tool & go to the network tab, look for video & click on it should get the info below (from previous posts I believe this is what folks had mentioned to trace to)

If you take just the URL & run a trace route or pop it in PingPlotter the IP's are different. Also if you open a new tab past the URL in again you will get a different request URL & IP. I've been analyzing & pasted some of PingPlotter results below..What does your guys look like?

I'm in Brampton, Ontario and play League of Legends every now and then. Pretty happy to see that my ping is anywhere between 25-40, and people are constantly asking how my ping is so low! It's hilarious!

I'm on the gigabit package running the 26T2 firmware on the Coda-4582. Great work so far!

@Hiitchy

These are some great results ! Interesting that your ping results are that low even with .26 , have you double check the firmware version in the router admin ? I was getting around 34ms with .26 and it dropped to 22ms with .27

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Rogers Online Gaming Thread

@RogersKevin thats a fairly large leap between hops 8 and 9.  This is where someone at the NOC should pick up the phone and ask the other NOC what the problem is.  If that is a constant point where the transit time leaps upward, perhaps Rogers should look at another peering agreement or another path to the end point.

Re: Rogers Online Gaming Thread

@Datalink

Thanks for pointing that out. Will pass it along internally. I did send Dave some additional details as I ran various traces over the two hours I was watching.

I was still unable to reproduce the issue of the stream freezing up every few minutes in my environment.

Re: Rogers Online Gaming Thread

To capture an image of pingplotter, go Edit .... Capture as Image.  Then dump that to something like MS Paint and save it.  You can then include that in a post.

Point to remember, Pingplotter uses ICMP unless you have set it to run UDP or TCP/IP.  Looks like Twitch runs RTMP outbound from a broadcaster, not sure what streams out to the rest of the world, TCP/IP?  If thats the case, you're looking at different protocols for Pingplotter and Twitch.

I've said before, with the work that went into 4.5.8.27 for the CGN3ACSMR and CGNM-3552, that the improved performance for ICMP would be misleading for any other protocol, as those protocols still have the latency issues on the go.

The CODA-4582 with firmware version 2.0.10.27 is a different animal so to speak, but, there is still the issue of how the modem treats different protocols, which could introduce differences in the observed performance.  That would produce confusion unless you knew exactly what protocols were in use and how the modem processes those protocols.

From what I'm seeing, I believe that the routing to the twitch servers can be certainly reworked. The jump from hop 8 to 9 is pretty huge (from 30ms to 100ms).

Based on the competition's routing to these servers they average 60ms (based on @JohnBeaudin's data) so hopefully we can reduce it down to those levels.

I think the issue here is that users in atlantic canada are being routed to a different twitch server.  I mean right now.  the freezing is terrible.

Re: Rogers Online Gaming Thread

Thanks folks.

I can confirm that after testing various Twitch channels at different times throughout the day, I could not replicate the issue reported by others. What I can report is a buffer that appears to happens at a very low frequency. When this occurs the the Twitch player will display the loading/buffering animation, after a few seconds it will return to normal playback. No need to refresh the browser etc..I did majority of my testing on Wireless 5G with the occasional few minutes on ethernet. We will need to investigate further & big thank you for to the Community for providing information.

Finished off the night watching a Super Smash Brothers stream & playing NHL 17 6v6 on Xbox One for the first time Smiley Happy Check out the network performance results. This is provided in-game (screenshot below - will appear after mod approval)

Average Ping: 17ms

Based on all traceroute / pingplotter data provided, all the video feeds are coming from Amazon in Seattle San Jose. The big jump on the traces is traffic going from the New-York POP to the Seattle POP.

We have no control on where Amazon sends our traffic to but it's a very long way for a video stream. We will need to discuss with Amazon to see if the Twitch content is available in another data centre and if they can send our traffic there.

Now being in Atlantic, the problem is accentuated.

What about the way ea sends our traffic when it comes to NHL 17 ? It's horrible ,read on this thread you guys are looking In to this as well @RogersDave

@RogersKevin I've double checked everything, I'm currently on 2.0.10.26T2 firmware with a single black dot modem. It may also be helpful to know that I'm running a 40 ft cat6 ethernet cable from my room to a TP-Link Archer C3200 modem, then right into the CODA-4582!

I'm going to play a few games and then report back if I notice any differences, but I've noticed they stay anywhere between 25-40, so there's relatively no difference, and I personally haven't seen anything.

Interesting setup, thanks for sharing Smiley Happy Really great to hear you are getting those numbers with .26. Folks have reported a drop in ping times with .27 & the testing I've done reflects that as well.

Curious to see what you would get with your setup & .27 ! Lowest ping I've got with League of Legends is 22ms, you might have the new record for lowest ping time that I've seen reported on Rogers with LoL haha.

Smiley Very Happy

Hey @lethalsniper

Sorry to hear about the troubles. I play EA games as well, it's just a random stutter here and there for me. You may have be mistaken though, what was indicated by Dave is that he has been working on the IPV6 issues with EA Games.

I can't offer a commitment or provide a timeline but what I can say is, we are definitely interested in peering with EA (its on the roadmap)

Any other tests you need from me? From what you posted we seem to be hitting different server's. Tuesday was pretty good but still getting freezing. A couple of hops showed packet loss. Is this important?
