Rogers Internet VERY Slow Downtown`

Over the past several weeks, my internet access has been terrible.

I don't need to download huge files, I don't need Netflix.

I just need to get to google or whatever occasionally.

Lately that's been taking 15-30 seconds, and sometimes it just times out.

Other protocols are better. I maintain lots of ssh connections for work purposes and those generally perform well.

It's really just web browsing that's screwed.

I've been a Rogers cable internet customer for 10 years, and I've never seen performance this bad.

And this is after they sold me on an upgrade to Extreme.

I tried calling Rogers, and hung up after waiting 45 minutes in a queue.

Does anyone know what's happening?

Do they have some crappy proxy that's blowing chunks or what?

I'm going to ditch these guys if I can't get this resolved.

Many people have found issues sometimes with the Rogers DNs server, which could effect this.
You could try switching to say the google dns and see if it helps

K, how do I go about doing that?? Last coupla weeks I've been getting the same thing. The page hangs for that extra 3-4 sec before downloading. most of the times it's lightening quick but at certain times liek peak hours it hangs. Big pain...

Now, i am not sure.. i think with some of the gateways you CAN change the dns server.
If you are in bridged mode, you should be able to change this in your router. (unless to change the DNS, the router specificaly requires you to have EVERY setting manual, rather than obtained automaticaly.)

Except for my cell phones, all the PCs in my house, i have set as STATIC IP addresses.  So while im in there, i just change the dns for that specific PC to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
