Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

Is that all that you show for the downstream and upstream tables?

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

I am hoping thats something that was cut off on the table..

That there is not only ONE downstream and upstream channel O_O

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

Yeah thats all its showing right now for the downstream and upstream tables.

When I called Rogers yesterday, they said the signal they're getting from my modem is within range. And I shoudnt have any problems at all. The only thing they suggested me was to go exchange my modem. Which I already did 5 times in the past 2 weeks. Rogers customer service is just horrible.

After I start yelling at them for their service, he finally said the next appointment for tech was Friday. Which is really really late. I just hung up.

Thanks to you guys, I got an appointment for tomorrow instead of Friday.

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

I would say that you have a dead cable, so your modem is operating in a severely degraded mode.

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

So I factory rested my modem. Then rebooted. All the lights are back on. I got all the downstream and upstream channels back. But it still disconnects every couple minutes. I hope the modem update comes tonight so it will be ready for tomorrow when tech comes.

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

The fact that the modem reboots is probably indicative of a severe cable problem between your home and the external tap.  It can't talk to the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) so it ends up rebooting in order to reestablish that communications link.  Your Upstream power levels are at the max for three channel operation.  I'm surprised that the modem doesn't decide to cut one channel in order to maintain a constant level of communications with the CMTS.  It will be interesting to see what the tech finds. Whatever he or she does, that problem has be solved.

If the update does happen, you're going to want to keep that modem as its one half of the puzzle in terms of solving any connect /  disconnect issues with online games.  If the tech wants to swap out that modem, keep that in mind.  Swapping it out would put you back at square one in terms of modem issues with online games.  The other half of the puzzle is the signal level problem with the cable.

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

One thing I noticed in the past week is that the Internet works perfectly fine during the day (around 10 am-5pm).

But like after 6 pm, it starts to disconnect consistently. Is it possible that Rogers cant support all the Rogers customers in my neighbourhood when everyone comes home from work. After 6 pm, that should be the peak hours for internet usage.

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

Yup, absolutely.  That might be indicative that the node to which you are connected is overloaded and needs to be split.  One thing that everyone needs to understand is that network design at the neighborhood levels also involves probabilities and statistics.  Essentially the system is built out on the theory that not everyone will be home at the same time demanding the same share of bandwidth of the node or further upstream.  Its an engineering calculation that determines the downstream / upstream capability.  And, remember that in a good many cases, when the neighborhoods were built, speeds were what, 15 to 30 Mb/s if that?  And now, the customer speeds are 250 Mb/s running on the same equipment. So now, with increasing speeds that upstream equipment is operating under increasing loads, and every now and then it has to be upgraded or split to maintain that bandwidth to the customer.

Re: Rocket & advanced wi-fi Hitrons has PROBLEMS

So tech came and changed the cable and something else in the box beside my house. Both downstream and upstream looks improved
