Restart Phone

I was playing a game and had some background apps running when suddenly the music playing stopped and the phone froze. I tried to turn it off but nothing would happen so I had to take out the battery to restart it. Is there any simpler way to restart the phone without taking off the battery?

The simple way to turn off the device is to hold the power button on the right side of the device. But if the device has frozen then you would need to remove the battery to reboot it.
