One thing you could check out is that the CC function has not been canceled.
Go to settings - Closed Captions and if it shows what you want press save.
Mine setting are:
Standard CC: CC1
Language: Eng
Style: Set by program
When watching a program I press info. and if it is available scroll to and select CC if it is shown., It automatically comes on and stays on all channels until I turn it of via the info bar.
Note if a commercial is playing it may not have CC.
