Wow, not gonna lie, but I figured some of you were pulling my leg, but the update really is there.

It's forcing me to charge my battery more before it will do the update though (which is crazy since I have more than 50%).....

I'm also on Win7 64bit, and I'm getting the prompt. Could be a gradual rollout. I'm sure it will show up for you in a few hours, assuming you're an I896 and running stock software.

Re: Froyo (2.2) on Captivate

my i897 (bought in  winnipeg, at a rogers store), updated today. poor instructions, didnt work very well. neglected to tell me that i had to turn off phone, press volume keys and insert cable. took a long time to boot after (+5mins). all my desktop icons gone, but all data still on phone.  only difference i see is the settings menu icons are different

Re: Froyo (2.2) on Captivate

I got it all installed truly is Android 2.2.

Had to do the following:

1. Connect phone to Kies.
2. Start upgrade as normal.
3. After it downloads the files and starts the upgrade process, if you watch the Kies window eventually the phone will disconnect.
4. After it disconnects turn the phone off
5. unplug usb from phone
6. hold vol -/vol + keys. when holding vol, press and hold power
7. plug in usb

That is using the old Kies software.  I just noticed there is a new version of the Kies Software for the I896 on samsung.ca
