RAPTV Home Edition for pad crashes in iOS9

mvannie
I Plan to Stick Around

Since upgrading to iOS 9'my app crashes every time I try to use it.

I have deleted the the app and reinstalled with the same results.

App starts and and logs in then returns tv listings. If I tap on any element of the UI to try to use beyond that it crashes.

Anyone else seeing this behaviour?

So, over two months gone by and still no fix? I wish I would have found this thread before I upgraded my iPad to iOS9.1.  C'mon Rogers, update the App!

Like I said on the similar topic concerning the Android APP issue, maybe we should stop paying our cable bills.

And they keep advertising something that doesn't work.... simple solution, stop paying for something that is falsely advertised.

I really dont think Rogers care about this either.  I keep getting the same we are aware and working on it and we are sorry line from every avenue I try for support regarding this issue.

Time to let them know how we feel with our wallets, but I think that the people who are interested in this feature are such a small number that we don't count in the grand scheme of things.

Re: RAPTV Home Edition for pad crashes in iOS9

I've found it works fine with my iPhone 4S /w IOS 9, but a bit awkward

At least bring back the ability to program your PVR from the website.  I don't know why they would have removed that?  I know it doesn't solve the issue of the app crashing but offers an alternative.

Actually you can but these bone heads bury it so far into the web you can hardly find it. I just tried and I couldn't locate it but I did just the other day.

Log into your account and poke around endlessly until you stumble onto it.

Holy crapballs!!!  I would never have thought to look on the On Demand website for a link to program me PVR!!  I'd love to find out the logic behind burying it on that page and then not providing you a link on the same page that directs you to download the app (currently broken of course) from your app store of choice.

You expect logic.... lol

I should add a note here.  You CAN access the rogersondemand.com website from your iPad but they add a few hurdles.

  1. Open www.rogersondemand.com in Safari on your iPad.
  2. You will get a landing page telling you to download the app and nothing more.
  3. Press and hold on the Refresh button (the circle with the arrow in the address bar) and an option to Request Desktop Site will appear.  Select it.
  4. The proper site will now load.  Pick Manage PVR from the top menu bar.
  5. You will need to scroll down to find the familiar Rogers signin dialog box.  Sign-in.
  6. You will once again get the landing page telling you to get the app
  7. Once again press and hold the Refresh button and request the desktop site.
  8. Voila!  The ability to program your PVR from your iPad again.

The same steps should work on an iPhone but I assume it would be painful on a small screen.  The scrolling seems to be that you have to tap on the scroll bar as trying to scroll it results in the whole page trying to scroll.  I also assume this would be similar on an Android tablet but I'm not familiar with how you request the desktop site on them.

True... but they offer and can't deliver this..... we are technically paying for this.

This is true but at this point we have gone from expecting a fix by the end of September to the end of November and still no fix.  It's now time for alternatives.

I hate paying for something that doesn't work. I feel let down and maybe ripped off,,

I think this is the funniest thing I have ever read! iOS 9 has been available to developers since June and now it is going to take another month to month and a half to get the app fixed?? What a joke!

Re: RAPTV Home Edition for pad crashes in iOS9

I don't work for Rogers and have any affiliation with them, however, I have been wondering if this could be an iOS9 bug rather than a Rogers/contractor issue. iOS9.2 beta 4 was just released and it very well could be that Rogers have had to wait for Apple to get their act together. It puts them in a tough position in that they cannot bad mouth Apple for obvious reasons.

I don't develop apps for iOS, I am a web developer, so I was really surprised as to why it was taking so long. For the moderator to give a date range like he did makes me think it is more likely an iOS issue than a programming issue. Also, given that the iPhone version works and the iPad doesn't leads me to think it is iOS as well as the code base may be similar it is not the same. Having worked with an app developer on an iOS app, I remember him having to write specific code for each device to handle certain things.
