Hi everyone,
The Android 2.2 OS update for the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate is now available for download through Samsung’s website at: http://www.samsung.com/androidupgrade. Be sure to select the one marked “Samsung S Captivate” from the list.
Note that anyone looking to upgrade must have Kies 1.5 installed in order to run the upgrade.
Contacts should be backed up as part of the upgrade, but we recommend backing up and restoring your own data as the update can erase personal data.

I have done everything according to the link you have provided but Kies will not connect to my phone. Upon checking Google it is common knowledge that Kies is nothing but a buggy piece of junk. The latest drivers have been updated and Touchwiz is the default launcher. What's happening is that Kies is just in limbo saying connecting to device but nothing happens. Your thoughts on this?

How does Rogers recommend backing up one's own data? Is there a recommended app or method we should use? Is this update approved for use on the Rogers version of the Captivate?
Thanks!

@northy
Hi,
The earlier version was unsupported but now, customers can get support by following the noted support path at http://www.samsung.com/androidupgrade.
Thanks!

erin,, i understand that part of it,,,
my question is , is it any different then what was released,, ??
as you know i did the earlier update, so kies do not seem to think i need a update,, which makes me wonder if there is any difference between todays and last weeks??

I second this question.
I updated to Froyo from Kies last week. Is there any difference between this official update and the "unofficial" one last week?

I update last week as well, with the unofficial one.
The version info on my phone is:
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband version: I896UXJL1
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.UXJL1
Could anybody with the official update share the version info please?

Hi Erin,
Has the location services problem been fixed for Android 2.2?

Hi there,
I can only comment on supported versions. If you’re concerned that you don't have the most current OS, or that there was an issue with the upgrade, you’re best to call the support contact listed.
Thanks

From the PDF above, the software version is I896UXJL1. So I assume thats the official release. Check under settings to see if you have that on your phone.

I am using Windows 7 64bit. As per your suggestion I tried it out on an XP laptop but the same thing is happening. The laptop is 32bit.

@kaj
Remove and re-insert your battery, make sure your device is plugged directly to the USB port (no splitter, USB hub etc) and plug the device in the back of your PC, not a front USB port. If it continues, follow these instructions:
If the device is not being detected by Samsung Kies, you may have to download and install the drivers for it.
Click on Kies in the top right and click on Driver Recovery.
Click Yes
The drivers are now downloading and installing.
Once the drivers are installed, a message will appear that its completed.
Try again, it should detect the device. Let us know if it works.
@alexx
The two firmwares are the same. To be sure I updated our lab device and get the same readings:
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband Version: I896UXJL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: FROYO.UXJL1

Has anyone been able to install this update? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and MSC.Thunder.FirmwareUpdate crashes right before the update starts downloading. This seems to be a fairly common problem with Kies but not of the suggested solutions work for me.

I actually tried the method you provided before I began my first post here today. Still doesn't work.

Hi Northy
Kies recognize my "Weekend" 2.2 as up-to-date, I'm going to skip whatever this "Offical" release until something newer come-out (Ginger-Bread anyone Hee hee ?)

I'm getting the same thing as kaj. The phone shows as connected, but Kies just sits at "Connecting to device...".
I'm running Vista 23-bit. I did run Kies as Administrator. I've reinstalled the drivers, and plugged my USB cable directly into the back of my desktop as previously suggested. I've switched my launcher back to TouchWiz. (I was using LauncherPro before.) Not sure what else to do. I'm almost at the point where I'd do a full wipe if I can get froyo.
