Just did a quick search on 800notes.com about the number. It seems to be a Rogers scam... Thank goodness I didn't get scammed they didn't ask about my private info but how did they get the hands-on my account and know I have ____ package?

You sometimes have to be careful with those sites.. as its all user driven data... everyone could CALL it a scam, as its not from the regular number... even if it IS real.

Rogers DOES use some 3rd party companys for cold calling promotions, etc.  So they do exist.

Usually in these cases.. dont provide them with info... let THEM provide YOU with information..
The legit ones will often be provided your existing plan stuff.

It is well known that Rogers has been using 3rd party marketers for cold calling promotions. What I find annoying is that some of these companies have a caller ID that identifies them as "Rogers Cable" or "Rogers Comm" or some such thing and then try to give you the impression that they are in fact Rogers. I think this is a serious issue and that Rogers should seriously look at some of the companies that they engage to call on their behalf and at the more serious issue of who they are giving our private information to. We too have been bothered by these calls and often times, when you try to question them, they can get downright rude. Websites like 800notes.com and whycall.me actually do an excellent job of identifying many scam numbers out there that are not who they purport to be.

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

Agreed, they need to be outright with the info...  This is BOB calling from XYZ on BEHALF of rogers sort of thing.

I normally prefer to deal with rogers directly... whis is always the SAFEST way.. calling them yourselfs.

The problem is.. that these 3rd party companies often can offer you a deal, which the REGULAR reps do not have access to 😞

Thanks guys! But do you guys know that those so-called "cold callers" are authorized to sell techXpert out for free 1 month? Does Rogers really have this promotions? Its not on www.rogers.com

Only thing, its possible that those scamies hacked into our My Rogers account and know everything and call in and claim to be Rogers Smiley Sad *sigh* Our best hope would be changing our MyRogers passcode and PIN of you have one.

Yes its quite normal that they have promotions that are not listed, not on the site, etc.

I did have a call from one of the 3rd party one once.. got a SLIGHTLY better deal on my home phone at the time.
(though, its now the STANDARD plan thats on the website 😛 but this was before it was that way)

Fingers crossed that I wont be charged for Rogers TechXpert. I said approved for the 1 month trial but I don't know I'll be charged for the next month, my bill is over $200 already 😧

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

Don't forget that you can stop marketing calls from Rogers or its third parties in your Marketing Permissions on your account. I opted out of this kind of thing years ago and never get calls like that.

I spoke too soon. Smiley Sad

Just got a call today from 855-760-4841 on my iPhone. The display showed Rogers Wireless and I ignored it. No one left a message and a Google search shows tons of complaints about this number, mostly questioning if it's legit or not. Most people say no one answers on the other end and/or don't leave a message. The number does go back several years, though, so it may well be legitimate. The area code 855 suggests it's from a third party.

Dont always count a 'no one answers' sort of thing as always a scam.  Depends on how the cold calling is done.

Many use an auto dialer.   Calls out say 10 numbers.  If a person picks up, it then goes and trys to connec that person, to a live agent who is not busy.
Problem with this is, if all the agent ARE busy.. you just get dead air and its not directed to anyone.
A PROPER set up system should then bounce you into a queue, or an automated message played, etc.

Not saying to take everything at face value though.. FAR from it.
There are scams out there.. you need to be CAUTIOUS when dealing with any of these, etc.

I've Been Here Awhile

I started a Rogers wireless account about 3 weeks ago:  I have had missed calls from this number  1-800-336-0461 3 times since I started the account.  They have always been 'missed calls, and I've never called back, figuring it was some kind sales call

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

Hello @World-Traveler9,

Welcome to the Community Forums!

I just tried calling that number and it seems to be a third party marketing company calling on behalf of Rogers. It's most likely a sales call. If you'd like to have your number removed from their calling list, there is an option at the end of the message for you to do so.

Thanks,

RogersHassam

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

Hi, thanks for the welcome and the information.   I'll call them back and have my number removed.

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

@World-Traveler9 if you go to My Rogers > Profile > Update marketing permissions and make sure all the boxes are unchecked, you won't get any spam from Rogers directly.  As for waiting until the end of a telemarketer call to get your number removed, it's a crap shoot. often there is no such option, or if it's from off-shore, they don't comply because they can't be found.

I'm Here A Lot

Hello

i just received a call from a woman named Sedaf who claimed to be calling on behalf of Rogers and then requested that I verify my address before proceeding.  When I said no and asked who she was and what the call was regarding she indicated that her company was Gatestone.  I took down her number (866-724-6619 x 6515) and then looked up Gatestone online and saw a lot of people complaining about them.  I then called her back and asked what it was about noting that her company is a collection agency and that I am always paid up with Rogers and that I'm infact calling on a Rogers phone.  When probed further about where she got my number she indicated she had found it online attached to my consultancy.  I gave part of my address and she then asked if I'd lived in North York.  I indicated in 2005 and the address.  She then said I must be the wrong person and she'll take me off her list.  My questions are:

1.  Does Gatestone work for Rogers

2.  If yes why are they calling me and wasting my time

3.  If no will Rogers be taking action against them

It seems incredibly wrong for someone to be cruising the internet looking for my mobile and asking me to provide them with confidential information.  Thank you for your prompt response.

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

Hopefully one of the rogers reps can get back to you with more details.

I myself havent heard of this one.. i know they do use SOME 3rd party companies for promotional calling, etc (Zedd is one of them).  The 3rd party company is provided some of the details.. and are given special promotions that people can sign up with, etc.

One thing to make sure, is under your MYROGERS profile is to turn of ALL the marketing things on there.  WIth this you shouldnt receive any thing like that... so if you DO.. it even more likely to be a FAKE.

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

Thanks.  This seemed to be someone data mining and I suspect many people would have given them info inncently.  Anyway I look forward to hearing from Rogers. Kris

Re: Number claiming to be "on behalf of Rogers" - fake or legit?

And will Rogers be taking action and following up?  I've provided you with the number.  Also will you answer the questions posted.  Is Gatestone a Rogers collection agency?  I'd like to received a follow up call once you have reported it if in fact they are fadulently using your name.  If they are your service provider I'd also like to know.
