Actually, to be clear, Google is subsidizing the cost of the phone through the play store.
Google has far more buying power than any of the carriers world wide, so LG is giving them a better price than any other carrier, which allows Google to price it so low in the Play store.
There is just no way that the difference between $350 and $499 is acceptable. I have posed the question of what the cost to Rogers is for that phone and I was told to pound salt, which leads me to believe thier buying power is also formidable. Let not pretend that Rogers is a white knight sent to save the consumer. The cost of the phone is significantly marked up and they also make back full cost on plan subsidy. This is horrible practice and just because the big 3 all do it doesnt make it right. This may sound like a conspiracy which it is surely not but has anyone noticed how the lack of competiion has kept pricing high in Canada. Do not beleive the lobbying propoganda from the big 3 there are plenty of studdies that completely contradict what they are saying. Funny how they all stand firm at exactly the same pricing when the smoke and mirrors have all been removed. Im not saying this is Collusion but WOW! Thanks alot for price gouging. Way to treat your valued customers.
Also please note in my previous pose this was based on getting the phone for $0. It was at one point in time $100 or $150 on a plan and then the Tab was $499 still. God help us all. If you like your money you will agree. If you dont like money they be a rogers fanboy.
I urge everyone who is on a contract to research for new federal or provincial laws that have been passed recently. I have been told and this may or may not be true, that there are new regulations where a company cannot charge you for a value that they have made up but can charge you for fair market value depreciation on the phone at the time of closing your contract (this is in the instance where you close your account early/before end of formal contract. I will find the information and post the link here when I do.
I do not see it anywhere & its wrong. Also it up to the carriers & manufactoere to make those prices. So the CRTC can NOT control what price the Manufactorer puts the price for. Also yes the carriers are over pricing the devices but again, CRTC can not control it that must.
No where does the CRTC say that or passed that. here is the more info to see.
We will see, I am not sure this relates to the CRTC. I will post the link here. Also to be clear this is not what the price is of the phone upfront. Selling at whatever you want is a business perogitive and is ethical. Its what Rogers charges on the tab on the back end based on a inflated/fictishous value of the phone when its time to want out of your contract.
This is also when transparency of costs to rogers comes into effect. Hidding this information keeps perspective away from the consumer. I already know the truth about the situation and is what I beleive to be poor business practice. Other people may disagree but I highly doubt it.
If its not straight from the CRTC, then its not really valid. The CRTC makes the rules on the carriers. So if any other site is reporting it & does not have the CRTC approval then its just a rumor at this point. Like i posted on my above post, no where does the CRTC say that on their new rules.
CRTC link = http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info_sht/t14.htm
I do want to see this " link" tho you have.
I have sent an email to my contact and have been told that the ammedment/update is extremely new and its possible that it may not have been added to this document. I will let you know if its thier and if not when it might be incomming. Either way my point has been made about what really matters.
Not going to say much but if you or your contact can not provide a site or link showing the CRTC saying what you claim, then its just a rumor / someone saying something that is not true.
So please keep that out of here unless there is something to really back it up like a link providing the CRTC doing it. I follow the CRTC & their rulings & nothing of that did come up or passed. So your contact is just saying rumors at this pont. Maybe true or not, they are rumors that should stay out of the threads..
Not really. I actually help out thousands with their questions they have. If you look at my Post history you will see i have helped many with the iPhones reservation threads, most in in the Mobile threads & TV threads.
I do all this on my own time which i do this for free. Just because people like me & others do this to help out others, does not mean we work for the company or monitor the site. We do this on our own time. I love helping others.
If you do not like it, there is a option to leave the thread or report my posts to the mods of Rogers & they can deal with it
Not at all if that is the case. My point has been made regardless of what the CRTC rules are currently or what they will be in the future. Poor consumer respect and corporate greed are a cancer to consumers in this country. I truly hope the Federal government steps in and deals with the current state of wireless in Canada. Time for more choice and better pricing for consumers.
I obviously dont have the time you do to spend in the the tread so I will be returning only when I have more CRTC information.
So your contact is just saying rumors at this pont. Maybe true or not, they are rumors that should stay out of the threads..
This is YOUR PERSONAL OPINION Meomix. This is an open forum where EVERYONE'S opinion is welcome. YOU know that.
Let the readers decide what is true or worth believing.
You do not have the info that is why your " claim" is not valid. I have been waiting for that so called link u claimed to have but u never provided it. Then you said u " contacted" your " source" . It seems you do not have anything to back your self up & just coming on here to start a fight or argument which is not needed. I provided the CRTC site which does not state it anywhere.
So really your post with the claim is just false & not valid as you have nothing to prove that your claim is real. In the end the CRTC controls the rules, not the carriers. The carriers can twist or find a loophole but the CRTC will see it.
If you wish to make this claim, i suggest emailing the CRTC & the Federal Government to be heard.
When you return, please provide next time a source of your " Claim" instead of nothing & starting a argument which is not needed. Also i suggest next time you come here, do NOT start something & do not say or assume someone works for Rogers.
Now lets stay on topic please. This thread is about the Nexus 5 being $50 more, not about a rule.
