New Nextbox Navigator

BS
I'm a Senior Advisor

My wife was just moving through the new navigator and has the following questions, concerns.

The first screens for the guide are fine, but the fonts are a bit small, even on a 46 inch TV. We are all getting old, let's not forget us.

In the section for listing and managing recordings, the boxes cut off the full names of the shows, don't show dates, would rather have option of old list style with all details right in one spot.

When looking at multiple shows, you have to go to each listed show recorded, but there is no reference to the date until you highlight the show. Then this highlighted information on the show is even smaller and I have almost perfect vision after my cataract surgury, and I can barely read it. My wife can't read it at all. You do have the date on the top right that is in a bigger font, but the show information is almost unreadable and my 24 year old daughter who just came in also comment that it is almost unreadable.

Is there an option for increasing font size and changing to a list view rather than the boxes on the list of the recordings page. Don't like the box feature or the way the contents view at all for the above reasons. See little or benefit for this change.

Otherwise, I am kind of indifferent to the new layout, but do like some features.  I will probably turn off the banner across the bottom off in settings. I can get the same information from the guide.

Yes, there is a bit of getting used to change, but some of this change seems to be change for the sake of change. I do like that it takes less clicking to move around though, it just the display formats and font sizes that are creating legitimate problems for my family.

I totally agree.  It's a real mess.  We never got any of our programs recorded last Saturday or Sunday on PBS.  So if we do get them this weekend we won't know what's going on as PBS isn't on demand.  We should not have to pay for this non-functioning device.   It is getting worse.   And after more than 2 months there is no relief in sight!!!

Thanksgiving.  The day all Rogers customers who haven't yet received Navigatr are thankful for that, and all those who have received it are thankful for Bell Fibe, Satellite, Android TV boxes and the Internet.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't recall hearing about this one before. I started recording a 10 minute Teletoon program called Robot Chicken (okay, okay, I know... but seriously, it's a satiric, stop-motion animated show that is hilarious), of which, since I just started watching it, I set to record all episodes. It's on about 10 times a day, apparently, and since Rogers /  Navigator doesn't have the common sense to check and see if a program has already been recorded, by last week there were 145 episodes in a folder on the ol' PVR, and another 31 or so set to record.

Of course, with the stupid tile interface, [Lose the Tiles (TM)] there's no visible description of individual episodes, so to try and cull the duplicates, I have to click on each individual tile to delete them. That's not bad enough. I realize that Robot Chicken will quickly overwhelm my PVR, so I go to the Recording tab to cancel the rest of the recordings, which surprisingly, but thankfully, can be done in a single command, and which I proceed to do.

This takes a while, so I admit I wasn't watching the screen when this happened, but when I came back, all 145 episodes had magically moved from a single Robot Chicken folder to the main folder, as if each episode was a separate show. (see screenshot)

So now, when I want to, oh, watch something other than Robot Chicken, I have to page down through more that TWENTY stupid lines of tiles. Considering that the 'page down' function no longer works, I'm really curious about who came up with this wonderful new feature of Navigator. The mystery to me is why Rogers isn't advertising all these keen new time- and labor-saving features. I mean, they can't be bugs, because after all, Navigator is the result of hours, possibly even *days* of computer coding, and beta-testing by the dedicated folks at Rogers and their sub-contractors.

Rogers Navigator - It Keeps Getting Better and Better!!!

Beware making statements like "Rogers Navigator - It Keeps Getting Better and Better!!!".

Although Rogers has a sense of humour (I mean after all, what else could Navigatr be if not an elaborate joke), I don't think they understand sarcasm.  You're likely to see your quote misused in another future Rogers mindless television commercial touting "happy Navigatr customers".

Just when I thought I had seen every weird behaviour under Navigatr, I was surprised by new issues tonight.

I had set up to record 4 half hour comedies on Channel 17 - HDABC from 8:00PM to 10:00PM

The Middle

The Goldbergs

Modern Family

Blackish

I also had Modern Family set up on channel 7-HDCTY as insurance, because the Scheduled Recording on ABC did not show the red record symbol, even though I could not schedule the series or a single recording on ABC because of "duplicate recording".

Around 10:30, we started to watch The Middle and I noticed that it showed that it was still recording (from 8:00PM).  When I hit "Watch", it was the Goldbergs that played.  At the end of play, the playback did not stop, but the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen flashed every second or so.  I had to hit Exit to get back to List.  I  then checked the rest of the recordings.  On ABC, The Goldbergs was Modern Family, Modern Family was Blackish, and Blackish was Blackish.  On City, Modern Family was Modern Family.  I expected the City simsub to override the ABC signal for Modern Family, but this did not happen.  Modern Family on ABC was overridden by the City simsub of Blackish.

I tried to stop the recording of The Middle on ABC, which said it was a 30 minute recording even though it had been recording for 2.5 hours but it would not let me do it from the tile List.  I knew that I needed to stop any other recordings so that I could do a reboot before the 11:30 recordings.  When I went to the Guide and found the program that was recording I hit Select which took me to the live TV.  Then when I hit Stop, I was surpried that a menu popped up that gave me the old RTN choices which included "Stop recording and save" and "Stop recording and delete".  I used this to stop all the recording programs, including The Middle, although at first it did not appear to work.  In a short time, however, the red recording light went out and I was able to reboot by unplugging the power and restarting.  After the reboot, things seemed to be OK, but the incorrect recordings remained.

In summary, it appears that The Middle on ABC went into an extended recording time that would never have stopped until I intervened.  The remaining recordings on ABC were shifted in content by half an hour.  I don't think this was a Guide error, because the City simsub overrode the ABC signal and was shifted, but the direct City broadcast had the correct name and time.

I wanted to get this down while it was fresh in my memory.  Now to go upstairs and check what happened on the second 9865.

More from Navigatr...  We recorded some shows last night.  This morning our Nextbox 3.0 was repeatedly rebooting.  We would get about one minute of TV and it would reboot again.  Over and over.  So, I did an online chat with Rogers support, and was told it is a hardware issue and needs to be replaced.  We bought this unit two years ago, so it's out of warranty.  I googled Nextbox repeated reboots, and I read that someone had success with a factory reset.  Faced with the loss of our recorded programs in any event, and nothing else to lose, I tried the factory reset.  Voila, no more reboots.  Works fine, except that we no longer have our recorded programs.  This software is a mess.

So yet again Rogers has broken someone's PURCHASED Nextbox by forcing down defective software to it. This MUST be against some law, and you should (at the very least) Call Rogers and demand some reasonable compensation (and if they start the offer with some worthless movie rentals, laugh at the offer and tell them you want to speak to someone in the Retentions department).

For those of you following along at home, I'm still manually deleting, one at a time, 145 recordings of episodes of the same show FROM THE MAIN TILE SCREEN. (And the 145 is *not* an exaggeration.) Because the tiles don't give any actual show information, I have to click on each <expletive deleted> tile, then try to remember whether or not that particular recording is a duplicate, since I can't look at a screen full of descriptions for multiple programs, where duplicates would be visible.

You are absolutely correct -- I *should* have written:

"Rogers Navigatr - It Keeps Getting Bettr and Bettr!"

Then the sarcasm would have been obvious even to Rogrs...  (Not Rogrs Communications of course -- I'm speaking of Mister Rogrs...)

Mr. A

I hope you're demanding compensation from Rogrs for the huge amount of your time wasted checking and deleting 145 tiles.

I have to say how sad and angry I am each time I come on to see what's STILL going on with this ineffective, broken and downright idiotic system, and the lack of adequate responses from Rogers. I'm sorry for everyone on here, and the countless others who aren't on the forums, who are dealing with this.

My solution is still working great for me so far, and if you have the option, I'd suggest other people do what I did. Switch to Bell Fibe. (Let's see how long this message stays up before Rogers deletes it!) Granted it's only been a couple months, but I've had no issues since I switched, all recordings have occurred without incident, the interface is easy to navigate, AND my bill is cheaper. If people don't have the option to switch, keep fighting for compensation, and contact the President's Office directly. When Rogers found out I was moving to Bell, the retention agent said he would give me a new Nextbox 3.0, so fight for getting that. Rogers should NOT be willing to offer leaving customers more than what they are willing to give existing customers whom they have screwed over. They have messed up your PVRs; make them make it right.

"I wanted to get this down while it was fresh in my memory.  Now to go upstairs and check what happened on the second 9865."

So everything was fine on the upstairs 9865.  I assume this means that the run-on recordings have caused some kind of corruption and this is only going to get worse.  Certainly if I start to get the "insufficient resources" messages again, I'll have no choice but to do a factory reset.  I have only had this box since April.

@mike555  Scroll down to Troubleshooting and press Select.  Under Diagnostics, there is a choice to "Reboot Set-Top Box".

This is just getting ridiculous.  As soon as we discover a workaround Rogers does something to screw it up.  I can't access my manage your PVR either on any of my lap top, iPad or PC.  I own my net box as well which is now basically a large dust collector.  Thank god for the internet because at least I can download my shows that don't show up.  I'm glad that service is with Bell otherwise that would probably be shut down as well

I'm Here A Lot

Here's a glitch I haven't seen posted here - and I hope someone at Rogers is keeping track of these items -

The Picture in picture (PIP) function seems to be very messed up.

It seems to have saved one channel in the pair that I can't change or get rid of.

Swapping takes me out of the PIP function.

Basically the PI{P function is now useless.

I urge Rogers to take a close look at this feature which use to be quite easy to use.

there used to be an option for troubleshooting on the old way but now things have changed and the is no troubleshooting option

On my Windows 7 laptop running Firefox, I get the grid, but in the top left corner is says "STB not available". I have the more bulletproof SA8300HD PVR, but it just looks like the web app isn't communication with our boxes.

The PiP works just fine on my SA8300HD, so it must be a Nextbox or Navigatr problem.

Frankly, since I've had a PVR I've very seldom watched live TV and can't remember the last time I used PiP. Before that, I went out of my way and paid a premium to get a TV with PiP. I'd seen it on a friend's TV, but when I went to but a new TV the salesmen tried to talk me out of it because apparently nobody used it much anymore. I found it great when we were allowed to see Formula 1 Racing from both the Canadian network and Speed TV and could switch back and forth just at the right time during commercials. Nowadays I never watch racing live and FF through commercials.

To get out of the "Mobius loop" of the "shifted recording issue" try rebooting the box (from the menu, or just unplug for 30 seconds) at a time when nothing is recording, or scheduled to record for at least half hour.

Okay, Manage PVR is working tonight and connecting to my PVR. I figured is was just a temporary lapse.
