New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

haguuhar
I Plan to Stick Around

I just changed from a hybrid fibre 30 (with CGN2 modem) to the Rogers Ignite 60 (with the CGN3ACSMR modem). I'm not sure why, but I now get firewall errors when I try to load up the game. The internet works fine, other than the specific case in the game. Does anyone know what is happening, or how to fix it? I have tried port forwarding, turning the modem into bridge mode, even disabling the router's firewall. None of these options have fixed the problem.

1)yes we are running all systems wired

2) we have tried both modem and modem+router

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

So with the newest firmware for the cgn3acsmr also fix the latency / pings for the cgn3 that people where reporting when gaming with consoles? So basically I'm asking wich modem for gaming with less lag better pings , cgn3acsmr or the reg CGN3. Playing hard wired so don't care about the ac

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Can anyone confirm if the CGN3 has the new firmware yet?

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

There have been a couple of people report that their CGN3 has been upgraded to version 4.2.4.6 (dslreports).  The last version that I ran with that modem was 4.2.4.5.  I've asked one of them to run a ping test to see if the new firmware has changed the latency to the modem, as was done with the CGN3ACSMR.  As of right now, from what I've seen, the CGN3ACSMR has the lowest latency of any 24 Channel modem in Canada.  Maybe the CGN3  will match it, don't know yet....

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

How silly is that ? So basically if I want lower pings/ latency I need to upgrade to the cgn3acsmr ? How silly is that ? Why can't it be the same if its on the same DAM network and same type of gateway CGN3 minus the ac can someone explain ?

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

I thought you were already running a CGN3ACSMR?

In a nutshell, there are three modems, CGN3, CGN3AC, and CGN3ACSMR, all most likely with individual chipsets and motherboards.  The SMR received the changes to the firmware late last spring.  You didn't want to be around for the introduction of that modem.   It was painful to say the least and as a result, firmware version 4.5.8.16 was issued to alleviate the problems, including latency to and thru the modem.  The latency issue is a chipset issue, for which neither Hitron nor Rogers is responsible for.  Without knowing the details, I don't know if the chipset firmware changes were the same for all modems or whether the vendor had to come up with individual firmware changes.  Add in the schedules for Hitron and Rogers and here we are.  It would appear that the CGN3 is getting a firmware upgrade now, but, without further details, its impossible to know if that includes the changes necessary to resolve the latency issues, which all of the Hitron modems suffer, or suffered from.  So, just keep in mind that each modem may be unique to the point of requiring individual unique firmware updates to resolve the same issue.

If I get the response that I'm looking for sometime today, I'll be able to tell you if the CGN3 latency has improved or not.

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Any date of firmware being released for the cgn3 ?

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Nope, all I can say is that it appears that there was an upgrade which was noticed yesterday.  Other than that, I haven't seen anything about it.  It would be nice if the RE's were given some details of device upgrades, to be able to answer questions and help out where applicable, but, unfortunately that doesn't happen.  We're in the dark, just like everyone else.

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Will we know when the firmware is out for the cgn3 ? Will you let us know ?

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Which modem are you running at the present time, CGN3 or CGN3ACSMR, just wondering?

I'm an Enthusiast
I'm using the cgn3acsmr at the moment but will be going back to the CGN3 soon as they fix firmware. I'm on a old hybrid 150 plan and they are charging me $3 month for the cgn3acsmr with the CGN3 I didn't have to pay anything. That's why I'm going back.

That's not exactly right - on the old hybrid plans, you're still being charged a modem rental fee (but the rental fee for the CGN3 was included in the advertised price).

If you bought a used CGN3, you'd end up paying $12/month less than if you rented it... or $15/month less than for renting a CGN3ACSMR.

(Of course, I am hesitant to recommend buying a CGN3 - certainly didn't work out well for me...)

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

I've been having problem(connection issues) playing League of legends(specificly just this game somehow) ever since I switched to my new CGN3 AC. I looked it up and figured it wasn't just me, it's actually alot of people having the same problem as I did. Fortunately, I found someone extremely helpful has already provided a solution to fix this matter:

"Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Update: We are happy to announce that the new firmware which resolves the League of Legends connectivity issue has now been deployed across the network . Customers who received a modem with the old firmware will be updated automatically within 48-72 hours. The new firmware is 4.5.8.16.

This only applies to the CGN3ACSMR."

My current firmware version is 4.4.8.14 which I believe is the main cause of this issue. According to the solution I found above, my firmware should have been updated automatically yet the update doesn't seems to happen on my modem.

Could someone kindly give some instruction on how I can update my modem manually?

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!

I've Been Here Awhile

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with updating the firmware on the CGNACSMR Router? Thank you!

When did you get the CGN3ACSMR? Normally it should update itself to the latest version within two days or so...

If it hasn't, then you should reach out to @CommunityHelps and they can manually push it out...

I had it installed earlier today (around 12pm), but i was hoping to have it manually pushed out. I will contact Community helps then. Thanks!

Re: New CGN3ACSMR Modem, not compatible with League of Legends?

Just to note, the current network wide firmware version for the CGN3ACSMR is 4.5.8.16.  As we speak, type, etc, version 4.5.8.20 is being distributed to deal with IPV6 issues that have been observed over the last week.  So, if you do happen to let the distribution run its course, you should end up with 4.5.8.20 fairly soon.
