How to confirm my iPhone 3GS is unlocked?

I phoned Rogers today to unlock my 3GS (it is now eligible to be unlocked), the chap said he'd unlocked it. I wasn't at my usual computer and so could not do a restore via iTunes until just now.

I've performed a restore (first to 5.1.1, and am now trying 6.0) and I'm wondering what I should see. I'm expecting some kind of dialog / screen tellimg me it's unlocked, but so far nothing.

I do not have a SIM from somewhere else to try it.

Is there any other way to determine that is is actually unlocked?

Could you borrow a SIM from a friend or family member (someone not on Rogers) and test it out?

When you connect device in itues will say e succeffuly unlocked.

IF you missed the message each time you load fresh firmware on device when activating will say successful unlocked.

Key word seeing in itunes is UNLOCKED.

Otherwise put someoen elses SIM in your phone from another carrier.

That is true. Once you plug it into iTunes, it will show you if its unlocked or not. You can also borrow a friends or someone elses sim card like RogersMichealT said & see if it can work with that.

I've done a clean restore to my iPhone4 while awaiting the unlock to process now when I plug into i Tunes I get the "unsupported sim error", will this error turn into Congratulations your iPhone is Unlocked once the IMEI is accepted on the apple servers? I can't  do another restore as I can't get past this sim error message in iTunes.

Hello winstonboogie

Did you pay the unlocking fee from the carrier? Or is the phone factory unlocked? You need to give more information for us to help you out.

Re: How to confirm my iPhone 3GS is unlocked?

I payed Rogers on Oct 31 & was told it would be unlocked that day...and I do understand there is a 24-48hr wait period for Rogers sending my IMEI# & Apple Server update, I just would like to confirm that after my restore (followed by invalid sim iTunes message) the Iphone will eventually get the congrats/unlocked message without doing further restores.

I really appriciate your assistance Meowmix

Hello winstonboogie

Yea once you plug in the phone and restore it, it should give you that message. I would call back Rogers after the 48hrs have passed and see if they did send it to Apple to have them add it on the white list or need to re do it.

Hopefully it gets fixed soon and it gets unlocked!

Re: How to confirm my iPhone 3GS is unlocked?

Hi - I had my 3GS unlocked, and I got the 'successfully unlocked' message in iTunes, but I couldn't click 'continue' without accepting a carrier.  (I can't recall what the option was, but there was no 'continue' button.  Now in Settings/About/Carrier, it says Rogers 13.1  Does that mean it's not actually unlocked?
