Hitron CGN3 and xbox 360

mralotof
I've been around

I have just upgraded my internet and was given a Hitron CGN3 modem and ever since i have been having problems with xbox live and getting kick from the net .. I have tried to port forward but is stays at nat : moderate and sometimes goes strict  I have rebooted and reset modem back to factory settings and still i only get moderate Nat and still getting kick from net well in game play .. Now this has Never been a issues with my last modem which was a smc... I have read that there is a problem with this modem and xbox live but have yet to find out how to fix this problem  I have called Rogers and they told me its xboxs problem and when i called xbox they say it the modem So again i just called rogers and they say its still not their problem and if i want to fix it to down grade my service and go back to SMC modem as it does not support my service which is fiber 60 then he says i can cancel my service if i was unhappy with them.. I am at a lost here on how to fix this issue I did read some thing about bridge and not all sure how or what it does but the also talk about a router so i am guessing bridge is hooking modem and router  is this correct ??

Please any help would be gratefully appreciated

Thought i would add the DOCSIS WAN and the event page too see if it would help

Your downstream signal levels and signal to noise ratios are fine, as are the signal levels on the upstream side.  Its interesting though that you are getting no response recoreds of the the modem's ranging request out to the Cable Modem Termination System.  If you are in a house, can you check where the cable enters the home, or where a splitter might be installed in the basement, for a cable amplifier, grey or white in colour, about the size of a cigarette pack I think.

Have you looked at the port forwarding instructions found online at:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/HitronTechnologies/CGN3ROG/Xbox_Live_360.htm

Running the CGN3 in bridge mode essentially means turning it into a modem only and is nothing more than a deselection in one of the user interface pages for the CGN3 followed by an automatic reboot.  Then you would connect a router to Port #1 or #2 of the CGN3, and the router would then do everything, which includes firewall, port forwarding and triggering, traffic monitoring, etc, etc.  The benifit of a router is that your network beyond the router can't be seen by anyone, including tech support, and you have a device that has better capabilities and controls for things like port forwarding as required by XBox 360s, and other game consoles.

Does the CGN3 allow me to do bandwidth control ? Want to manage the bandwidth of devices connected to the router

Re: Hitron CGN3 and xbox 360

Nope.

MOST routers dont monitor bandwidth controls.

You need to go to the much higher end ones.. and even then its rare.

Need to go to custom firmware often to get that.
(or enterprise level routers, etc)

The TP link router can I wonder if the 3rd party firmware will on the asus routers. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/tp-link-tp-link-archer-wireless-ac-dual-router-archerc7/10283092...

Re: Hitron CGN3 and xbox 360

you would be best to look at say the website for dd-wrt or one of the flavors of it.. and see what their compatability looks like.
