Hide Channels

I'm Here A Lot

When you're looking at 999 channels, I naturally wanted to hide a lot of them, which takes a long time, and the 8642 gets slower the more you hide.

So some sugggestions to rogers.

1. Speed up the hide channels. It can literally take 5 minutes or more to exit hide channels, when I've hidden a lot of channels.

2. Give me buttons or selections to bulk hide channels, with one click

a. Channels I don't receive/pay for/are grayed out, including PPV

b. All non-English channels

c. All religious channels.

d. All duplicate channels, keeping the HD channels lower in number (for example, HDNBC is 17 and 5??. Keep the 17, keeping the lower channels as priority over the duplicates in higher channels.

By doing this, I literally would have saved hours setting up my hide channel list, removing one at a time.

I don't want any channel I don't have to be listed.  But before I invest the time in manually making this happen (it will probably take an hour), I want to make sure that what I change will stay changed, and not get undone by Nextbox glitches or power outages?  Is this likely?

On another note, is there any way to eliminate Video on Demand channels from view, too? (Chennels of that type do not appear to have a remove option?)

1.  There's an easier way to get rid of channels you don't have.  One of your options under the 'Hide/Unhide' menu is "Hide All Unsubscribed'  These settings tend to survive Nextnox reboots. I haven't lost these settings yet.

2.  Yes, but its tedious.  You have to 'favorite' the channels you want to appear in the guide.  Then press the "FAV" button on your remote instead of guide ( or press GUIDE twice).  You'll then only see the channels you've markes as favorites.

For your point a)
This is already there.. while they are not skippable, unless you hide them, etc.. any channels that you dont get, should already be greyed out/a different color than your live channels.
(originaly it was barely noticable, but more recently the slight update they did, makes it very clear as to which are different)

I used Bell years ago and you could easily bulk hide all non-sbuscribed channels.

It's really irritating to go through and hide all the channels one by one. It's slow to the point you think your device is malfuntioning and worse if you hide a channel and the number gets moved you could hide a channel you do purchase.

I can imagine that Roger's wants to entice us by showing us channels we could have but I don't need enticement. I don't want to see what I'm not interested in.

Plus on the foreign language and multi PPV channels (only need one, thanks), it's super annoying to see a bunch of bogus channels.

Seriously, the Roger's guide is so primative by comparison to Bell's. The only reason I have Rogers is because of the internet package and I hate channels getting fuzzy because of snow/bad weather. But Roger's guide really sucks.

And yes, I'm aware that the channels do show visibly greyed out. I just don't want to see them at all or have to scroll past them. There is so limited realestate in the guide as it is without showing bogus channels.

Hi all,
ive got a 4250HD and the guide shows all channels in the guide are the same color, so we're know which channels we are/not subscribed to, which is a pain.
I'd love to have a guide that only shows subscribed channels. Is it possible with this model?

Thanks!

Steven

Unfortunately you cannot hide channels when using a 4250HD box.  Its a limit of the SARA software loaded on it.  You can however, assign up to 30 favorite channels, and then by pressing the FAV button located between the VOL & CH up/down buttons, it will cycle through all of your favorite channels you've set up.

To set a channel(s) as a favorite, tune to that channel, then press the settings button once.  This will open the Quick Settings menu, scroll down until you see an option to SET "CHAN" TO FAVORITES LIST (chan will be the actual channel you are tuned to) and that will put a small blue ribbon in the corner of the menu banner showing that it is now a favorite.

Thank you, bigjug!
Are there any rogers HD receivers that are capable of doing this?

Tia!

Re: Hide Channels

oops.

Re: Hide Channels

the 4642 with the NEW guide, you can hide channels, but you need to do them one by one.

As mentioned, the newer cisco line-up of HD boxes, when loaded with the new software, can hide channels, but from the sounds of it, its a teadous and time consuming task.

Hello BigJug

It is. You need to do it one by one like GDktity said. honestly why not just have a selection we can do & delete what we select instead of doing it one by one. I wonder if the developers ever thought of this..

They may have.

Likely its more of a 'marketing' wants it harder to do..  The more channels you see (even if you cant get them) the more likely you are to see while browsing... "OOOH, that channel has that show.. i have been wanting to watch it.. maybe i'll buy that channel" sort of thing 😛

I'm Here A Lot

'Hide all unsubscribed' does not work for me.

The 1st 2 options have an affect.

If i choose 'Show all channels' none are greyed out.

If i choose 'Hide all' just OD channels show up with some greyed out.

The last 2 options seem to do nothing at all.

If i choose 'Show all Unsubscribed channels' nothing changes at all , whatever was hidden from 'Hide All' remains

If i choose 'Hide all Unsubscribed channels' nothing changes at all, however it was before remains.

I used to have unsubscribed channels 'greyed out' but now they are all white, sub'ed or not.

Re: Hide Channels

Well, after a soft reboot, these functions work correctly now.

I've Been Around

I'm new to the Netbox 3.0 (from ExpressVU) and wondered if there is a way to restrict the guide to show only the channels i'm subscribed too.  I don't like have to scroll through everything to find my channels and was hoping for a short cut to creating my own list of blocking what I don't buy.

Bell ExpressVU allowed you the toggle the guide to 'all' or 'subscribed'.

Thanks

Press "Settings" on the remote.

Scroll down to "Channel Settings" and press Select on the remote.

Scroll right to "Hide Channels" on top of screen.

Select "Show All/Hide All Options"

Then select your choice and press enter (Select).

OMG  You are brilliant!  I had no idea you could do this. Wow!  Look at all of those channels!  I've never gone past channel 85.  I feel like a kid in a candy store! Thank you for the step by step instructions.

Back in the dark ages devices came with manuals. Nobody read them. So they stopped giving you manuals, even in electronic format. That's why we now have forums.
