Fast Forward Function - Ignite TV

I'm Here A Lot

When I fast forward a recorded program, and try to stop after the commercials, if I just press FF once, it stops where I want it to - but if I press FF twice, and try to stop after the commercials, I can cut off up to 5 minutes of the program that I am trying to watch - it's like the FF display is well behind the actual FF. Does anyone else have this issue ?

I think the 2x and up FFW function goes further than it shows.

I use voice to FFW "3 and one half minutes". This runs past 90% of the commercials then I 1x FFW.  If I go too far I then use the skip back function button.

Yes, I cannot stand it. I might as well watch the commercials as the fast forward at 1 is too slow and at 2 or 3 it does not show where you are and I over run it and have to rewind. I usually end up right back where I started.

Wondering if anyone else is issues with fast forwarding or rewinding with Ignite TV.

Just like everyone else we like PVR'ing our shows and watching them another time all while fast forwarding the commercials, which used to be easy, now it's the most frustrating thing ever!

If we are watching a show and try fast forwarding the commercials firstly,

-The picture basically freezes for a couple seconds while the time is moving forward

-Then the picture jumps backwards before it goes forwards all while the time still going forward so you have no clue where you are and when you should press play.

-If I press PLAY ( for example ) at 5:00 in the show, it either jumps back to 4:30, or jumps ahead past 5:00,

It is so inconsistent I can't even stop it early to anticipate the jump back or ahead because I have no clue what's going to happen.

Its very frustrating, almost to the point that i would be better off watching the commercials!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paying more money for Ignite and have more issues than we had before

Anyone else having this issue?????

Re: Fast Forward Function - Ignite TV

This is one of the known issues for the playback.

Beyond people having issues with the service due to poor setup...  there area a few known issues apparently being worked on, almost all revolving around PLAYBACK from recorded.

There are on again off again issues with Playback Quality on the recordings.  Live TV can be fine, so not a signal/speed issue, but get quality issues from recorded.
The FF, etc fuctions on those recordings.

Hopefully they are able to get it looked at and fixed soon.

Is it true that despite the FF issues if you utilize the voice control to skip ahead say 3  minutes, that works properly?  If you go beyond the end of the commercial, use "skip back"?

Not for me. I like using voice command and when there is FF issue, voice command is also effected...

Re: Fast Forward Function - Ignite TV

Why can’t I fast forward some shows I’ve recorded? Annoying

@cwagner402 : You should be able to FF anything you have recorded.  Some programming that's on-demand (OD) or "replay" may preclude FF, depending. Most "commercial" TV OD or "replay" won't allow FF,  while most "premium" OD programming like Crave will allow FF.

If you can't FF something that you have actually recorded, I suggest you reboot everything by unplugging and replugging - modem first until the light is on, then the boxes.

The boxes sort of  have a failover feature.. that if it cant reach the recording or is having a problem with it.. that it will revert to finding an on demand of it, if available.  In which yes you cant FF.
So its possible that is happening.

But if its a full blown recording, commercials and all, then you should be able to FF on it.

Re: Fast Forward Function - Ignite TV

Today I have found that with two of my recorded shows the fast forward function isn’t working. When I press fast forward on these shows a message appears at the top of the screen that says “Fast forward isn’t available. This program doesn’t support it”. This is happening on shows I’ve recorded previously and have never had this issue. A reboot of the box didn’t help.

@natluc : As discussed in posts 10, 11 of this thread, are you sure you're watching an actual recording that you made, or perhaps that/those recording/s "failed" for whatever reason and you're actually watching something on-demand which you cannot FF as discussed in those posts.

Yeah, thats the exact message you get when you are in a on demand that doesnt support it.
My guess is that its failing over for whatever reason.  (though usually I remember seeing a message at the top when you when to do the recording, saying it was failing over)

Side note: One thing I really like now is how easy to get to the on demand versions if you need to.
IE: my wife was going to watch Steven Colbert which she recorded.  Found the recording that the election thing has over-run over the recording.  Was easy to go on the recording, 'other versions' of it, and be able to find the on demand version right there.  Finds it for you, rather than having to go to the on demand section, and searching, etc.

So far, I have not run into any situations where I was not able to Fast Forward through a show that I recorded on Ignite TV.  That said, on some IPTV platforms, it is possible to have the program rights set up in such a way that you cannot Fast Forward through recorded content.  I don't know what restrictions can be put in place on recorded content with the Xfinity X1 platform or what Rogers may have done in the past.

With On Demand content, my experience on Ignite TV varies.  When "Restart"-able content is available, I can sometimes Fast Forward though.  (On a 1-hour show, when you press pause, a 1-hour timeline is shown, and you see broadcast commercials when you watch the program.)  In one such case, I was able to Fast Forward through program content but not the commercials... but I could rewind a bit, then use Voice Control to "Go forward 4 minutes" and skip over commercials that way.  What you can/cannot do depends entirely on what rights/restrictions are in place.

With On Demand content, where a 45 minute timeline is shown for a 1 hour broadcast, Fast Forward is often unavailable (since many of the broadcast commercials have been replaced with other fewer (possibly dynamically inserted) ads) but again, it depends on how the rights have been set up.

As others have said before, if a recording is either corrupt/broken/unavailable (I haven't seen this happen for quite a while now) then Ignite TV can fail over to On-demand content and/or prompt you to re-record the program if it is going to be broadcast again at a later date/time.  So, you may find yourself watching On Demand content rather than a recording.

In my case I think the show I was watching was recorded because in the bottom left corner of the time remaining screen there was a cloud icon and it said PVR.
I’ll see if this happens on any other shows

Is there anyway to change the skip forward button to 3 minutes instead of 5 minutes

You can change the "skip forward" interval from 5 minutes to 30 seconds using a magic key sequence.  However, I don't know of any way to "Skip ahead three minutes" other than by saying that voice command.

Comcast's Xfinity site is a good start. Click the applicable tabs for information on how things work:

https://www.xfinity.com/support/tv#get-started

ie: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/get-to-know-xr11-remote

Of course there will be minor variances with Rogers Ignite, but much of this applies.

Not that I know of.  Comcast seems to make a point of not (publicly) documenting any of these sorts of things.  Everything that I learned was found by scouring Xfinity X1 support posts, on various sites, for any nuggets of information that I could find.  Occasionally, I find some really obscure stuff by accident.  A good starting point is to search the Internet for things like "x1 exit 0030" to find sites containing this as well as other X1 tips, tricks and hacks.
