bought a Motorola Milestone with no locking, put the Rogers SIM in, it identifies that the SIM belongs to Rogers but said "No Service", can anyone help please?
Motorola Milestone tech specs are as follows:
3G GSM w/HSDPA, GSM 850/1900, HSUPA, GPRS Class 12, WiFi

The 3G bands are the ones used by Rogers.
Where exactly did you bought the phone? Are you 100% sure that the phone is unlocked?
Have you tried the SIM-card in another 3G phone before?

bought this phone in Hong Kong, absolutely unlocked.
a Rogers retailer put his own SIM into the phone and tried to register the SIM, the message said this SIM cannot be registered.
the phone works with Hong Kong SIM no problem.

according the original box of the phone:
Motorola A853 UMTS 900/2100 GSM 850/900/1800/1900 HSPDA EDGE
Is UMTS the problem?
Anyone knows how to fix it to work for GSM only??

If you go to Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile networks --> Network Mode you can switch it to GSM only. It will work for voice but the data will be quite slow. You will also need to enter in the APN information to get data
If that does not work you can also try
Type *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer and it will get you to a hidden menu 🙂
Click "phone information" then scroll to the bottom of the screen and set GSM ONLY from the drop down, then press the "menu" button on your phone and click "select radio band" from there choose "USA Band" or "Automatic" one of the two should work.

I purchased a Motorola Milestone when it came out from Telus and unlocked it and it worked without any issues on Rogers once I unlocked it.
For what its worth.

You'll need to list the UMTS frequencies. You may not have 3G service. Disable 3G service or dual-mode and set it to GSM only and see what happens.
