Curious about the Unlimited Video Calls feature

Does anyone know how the "Unlimited Nation Wide Video Calls" feature in my plan works?  What apps should I use so it doesn't count against my data?

Great Question! Unlimited Nation Wide Video Calls, AKA: VoLTE, works differently than 3^rd party applications like Skype, Viber etc.

Here is a comparison:

VoLTE:

• No set up required
• HD voice and video calls with Fido/Rogers customers who have a VoLTE compatible device too
• Use Voice and Data over LTE at the same time
• Does not use your data bucket
• Canada Wide Share Everything Plans charge $0 for airtime/Long Distance

3rd Party (Skype, Viber etc.):

• Customer must download and register an account with Skype in order to use the service
• Customers will be charged an additional fee for calls to wireless and wireline numbers
• All usage is rated against a your wireless data bucket unless you're connected to a Wi-Fi network

VoLTE compatibility:

• LTE SIM card
• VoLTE compatible device
• Apple has not enabled VoLTE video calling on their devices as they have FaceTime available

There are certain calling features like RON (Rogers One Number) and Extended Coverage that will prevent functionality of VoLTE when active on an account.

In addition to @RogersMelissaH awesome explaination.

Nation Wide Video calls work with VoLTE capable and enabled phones.

Video Calling is built into my dialer/phone app. It actually has a button beside the regular call button. So it is not 3rd party app.

If you use any 3rd party / non-native app. Data will apply. 3G or Wifi.

Edit: I have a Note 5 and it can do video call to another enabled phone, like my mom's note 5 or dad's Galaxy S7.

Thanks for the reply. I'm surpised and disapointed that VoLTE isn't supported on the iPhone SE. Any idea why this is?
