My WDTV Live media player is not able to access my computer to share files.
Are the new CGN3ACSMR modem's compatible with WDTV Live?
I was able to connect rather easily through my previous Rogers modem.
I am by no means a techy, and this is my first post.
I believe I have all the share options on my laptop set up correctly.
My WDTV Live media player shows up on the Network Map within the Control Panel "Network and Sharing Center" , but there is a "Switch" device icon between it and the WIFI modem icon. Is this "switch" effectively blocking access?
Also when I'm in the control planel and "View Computers and Devices". There seems to be an icon for the CGN modem and an icon for an "Internet gateway device" (probably the switch item mentioned above).
Why is the modem creating two representations in these places.
Any thoughts what I could be missing?
Anyone have the same issue? Sorry again, I am not making much sense.
Would appreciate help.
Cheers

Welcome to the Community @acm
The Community may require some more information in order to help you. I will ask you a few questions so we can try and get to the bottom of this for you
First off, what operating system are you using? Windows or Mac?
When you are using the WDTV Live, are you not seeing the folder at all?
Have you ensured the required folder is set to shared by visiting the properties/settings? If not try setting it to shared and see if it now works.
You can view the information page on shared folders for WDTV Live here . It contains instructions on how to setup the shared folders etc
Let us know the outcome!
Feel free to chime in community

For what your seeing in control pannel.. it should be fine.
Since the device is a gateway/modem, router, wired switch, etc it may appear that way. dont worry about that.
As for the not seeing the WD..
I am wondering if this comes back to the same with the CGN3... with the WIRELESS not supporting multicasting?
Most streaming devices like that usually need that to run stuff properly.

I do see the WD icon in both the "devices" and "network map" screens within the "Network and Share" part of the control panel on my laptop.
The main problem is that WDTV is not finding my computer when I choose "Select Content Source:Windows Shares".
It just keeps searching but my Computer name does not come up. Any ideas?

Hi @acm
If you are up too it, you could try factory resetting your router and WDTV Live. Then reconfigure everything and test.
I heard this is a good troubleshooting step for this device after changes to the network and etc.
I read on the WDCommunity that a few users run into this issue.
If you do a google search on "wd tv live won't find shared folder" you will find a few topics on issues like this.
Let us know how things are going.
