I'm hoping someone out there can help me. We just got the new navigator system for Nextbox and I can't figure out how to get closed captioning on tv shows that I have recorded and now want to watch.
In the past, I could turn CC off and on using the INFO button on the remote. Now when I select INFO, my recorded tv show stops and I go back to the recorded shows page. I contacted Rogers support and they don't know how to do it - they've set up a ticket for investigation; it will take up to 48 hours to get a response.
Anyone have any suggestions in the meantime?
Solved! Solved! Go to Solution.
I completely agree, corgi998. One of my two biggest frustrations is the "clutter" of the new Recordings page. Mixing recorded and scheduled shows in a single place makes it almost impossible to figure out what has already been scheduled. This is especially true when you want to record a show/series that is more than a couple days in the future. Because those scheduled recordings don't always show up until much closer to the actual air date, there is no way to verify if something has actually been set to record......unless of course you try to set the recording again and then you get a pop up message saying it's already been scheduled!!
My other pet peeve is how the filter settings on the Recordings page reverts to "most recent" each time you close the page and open it again. I shouldn't have to select "alphabetically" every time I access this page. I know it's a small thing but, for some reason, it really bugs me!
Other than the two items above, I'm getting used to the new guide. I'm not sure it's revolutionary but I can live with it!
Situation: ridiculous. Further proof that Navigatr was not tested properly.
Further proof of poor design.
wins understatement of the year. I could not agree with you more. The design is amateurish and clumsy. I was already upset with Android for the terrible operating system they upgraded me to but, at least, they gave me the choice. Had I read the reviews on line I would not have allowed the upgrade. So some of that is my fault. Rogers did not give us this option. They just forced it on us. There is a line somewhere on their webpage announcing this 'upgrade'. It says something to the effect 'Give it a chance. You will learn to love it'. To me that sounds like they already know it is a piece of crap and a lot of people are not going to like it.
I have sent my dislike of this new format to Rogers and demanded they either fix the many flaws I listed to them or put us back to the only slightly flawed way it used to be. They won't do it, of course, but it had to be said. I believe I will not be alone in this opinion.
It's atrocious that this travisty has been foisted on us. Was it designed by some school kid as a homework exercise?
Try this one, KWoo, you come in shortly after a program begins to record and would like to watch it from the beginning whilst recording continues. No can do because programs recording aren't listed until recording is complete. Yet another improvement. Somebody at Rogers should look up improvement in the dictionary.
And if you're watching a recorded program?
I kinda think we'd figured that out Corgi. Still a bummer if you're already into the recording though, eh?
Could not figure out how to turn cc on/off in a recorderd program.
Like everything else with NAVIKRAP it extremely difficult and non-intuitive.
Please give uis back our old guide !
Here's what finally worked for me, thanks to @corgi998 (lots of "likes" ) with the useful info.
- live TV
- down to cc on/off
- select your choice on or off (its the opposite of what the text says)
- list to find your recording again
PS: Where is Rogers help here ?
PPS: Why do supposed "experts" who are guessing with random ideas in an area where they have zero first hand knowledge keep posting ?
Additional comment one hour later:
PPPS: Interestiung. Found out I already posted the magic sequence above and Rogers accepted is a solution back in early August, but forgot how to do it after being away for a couple weeks ? It just reiforces the earlier point about this thing being "extremely difficult and non-intuitive."
I understand the steps that I need to follow re closed caption. However, having to start the closed caption before watching the recorded program is awkward. There needs to an update where we can use cc whenever we want it as with the previous program.
If you stop watching the recording i.e. go live, and do the cc "happy dance" listed on page 3 above and then try to find your recording again (actually that part is easy, one thing they actually did right) and resume watching you recording with cc enabled.
I have not heard if anything has changed in the new Navigatr 2 version.
However, apparently they have even messed up the 2 hit toggle between fav/guide so that it now useless!
There are 2 separate keys, but Rogers has now have managed to mess up both !
Why not make fav = favouties always and guide = guide always if you wansa "fix" something that wowas qyuite eleant and did not need any fixing!
Well toronto just got the roll out today, and I have to say i'm on the phone ready to give ROGERS an earful as a deaf person, they are in violation of the AODA ACT of ontario, the CC sucks, it only works on LIVE TV and not Recorded TV, there was no issues with the previous version of software.... I am extremely fusterated by this....! Now I have to annoy my neighbours being hard of hearing by turning the TV volume louder as the CC will not work, right to go ROGERS for not taking into consideration people who are hard of hearing/deaf/blind!
I think CC does work with recorded programs, but Rogers messed up the programming for the manner in which you turn it on.
I SAID I THINK CC DOES WORK ... .... 🙂 Sorry. Deaf joke. He he he he.
But as far as I know, CC still does work for most of us - even in recorded material, BUT - you have to be in live TV mode to turn on the CC. After you turn it on in live TV mode, then when you go back into your recorded program - it SHOULD work - or at least that's what everybody else has been noticing.
We are having the same problem. It used to take about 3 "buttons" to turn CC on or off. With Navigatr you must stop the recorded program and go to a live station. Then access CC by scrolling down the list at the right of the INFO screen to MORE then scrolling to the bottom and turning CC on or off. This takes 14 "buttons" to access.
I hope Rogers can come up with a better way of doing this!!!!!
There have been replies about being able to turn on CC when watching live TV. But not with recorded shows (?) .
Would someone in Rogers please take note of this and ask them to update their programming.
We should have the option, as in the past, to be able to turn on and off CC without having to watch a whole program with the CC on (ie setting up on live TV before watching the show).
Unfortunately not a solution for recorded shows. I hope they fix that option soon. Would like the option to click CC on and off without having to watch a whole show on CC.
We've been asking for CC fixes since July. So far nothing.
A dedicated cc key like every TV remote already does would be ideal.
FYI You can stop the recorded show, do the cc happy dance to turn it onoff, then click LIST to find your recorded show again and click RESUME.
ANOTHER REASON TO GET US BACK TO WHERE WE WERE AFTER CLICKING LIST.
This was PROBABLY THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THE JULY 28 Version.
