Good afternoon!
Many areas of our company use bitly.com to shorten URLs. Any rogers.com URL, when entered into Bitly, are shortened to a roge.rs address - feel free to test it out!
Hope that clears things up a bit(ly). 🙂

The link for sure looks suspicious. But it does not even look Russian. Some Russian links would be .rf, not .rs

.rs is Serbia. ('RS' is the ISO 3166 code for the Republic of Serbia)
But if one asks their WHOIS server who 'roge.rs' is, here's what one gets:
vivienm@vps:~$ jwhois -h whois.rnids.rs roge.rs
[Querying whois.rnids.rs]
[whois.rnids.rs]

So, it looks to me like Rogers went and registered a Serbian domain (roge.rs) to do a URL shortening thing. Many countries (Canada not being one of them) are quite happy to let foreigners register domain names...

Thank you all, I guess Vivien it is legit, but I'm still wary.

Here's another unsolicited msg I just received. I tried calling the chat line but they didn't know if it was a legitimate Rogers message.
This is the message from a 4 digit text number.
"Rogers msg: Reply YES to this message within the next 10 days to sign up for 12 months of unlimited Canada wide calling on the Rogers network at no additional charge. It's our way of thanking your for being a loyal customer. This promotion is not transferrable. Reply STOP to opt out of Rogers text msgs. Reach us at http://roge.rs/reachus"
Anyone seen or heard of this type of offer from Rogers?

Is that .rs domain correct? If so, here is an interesting snippit from Wikipedia:
.rs is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Serbia. The domain name registry that operates it is the Register of National Internet Domain Names of Serbia (RNIDS). The letters rs stand for Republic of Serbia (Serbian: Republika Srbija).
It is intended to be used with few restrictions, and it is widely used in Serbia. Because of English words ending with the letters "rs", this domain is also used in the construction of domain hacks.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.rs
So, unless there is an error in your post, I'd say that was an attempt to charge your cell phone account with bogus costs, either premium message costs or someother cost.
Can any of the mods add to this?

Good evening @User14 ,
Thank you for your post.
I am sorry about the confusion, the text message you received is from Rogers.
This is a promotion offered to certain customers at the moment.
Text messages from Rogers are indeed sent from 4 digit numbers.
If you no longer want to receive these promotional text messages, simply reply STOP to opt out.
Hope this helps!

I considered the text message that I received a potential form of spoofing or phishing.
The wording would be typical of a scammer and the fact that the Chat Line could not tell me if it was legitimate or not was rather disappointing. A seach for the 4 digit text number didn't produce anything either.
Some people may not question these types of messages especially when they have an embedded link oin them like this message did. When "roge.rs" is used in the link it raised a red flag because the use of "Roge.rs" is not explained anywhere. Emails and texts such as this can be confusing to the receiver of the message or email. Can Rogers not provide Security Information on their website about receiving suspicious emails and messages from Rogers? A seach of the site produces nothing useful or informative.
I did receive the info below via the Community Forum for a suspicious email but as a Rogers "policy" shouldn't it be more visible?

Your answer sounds like a bunch of RS. You go through a service that uses a foreign domain to save 3 digits in your legitamate domain name? This doesn't ring true! More like a story to hide outsourcing jobs. If what you say is true, you are risking being seen as sending Canadian jobs over seas to make a buck. A bad idea, if you like Canadian customers.

I Bing-searched this, and ended up here. They said they run their texts through a service that shortens their domain name to help us. All that confusion, and what looks like a foriegn domain, to save 3 digits? I don't believe it. They appear to be outsourcing jobs, internationally. I might have to block this, it is unsolicited ads at best.

Thanks for the heads up. They told me they used a service to shorten their domain name. All that to save 3 digits?
