@wpd. Go with the Applecare.
You get Technical Support that you will never get properly through Rogers (ie. Reservation disaster) and the chances of losing the phone is actually very slim. You also have to consider the costs of approx. $264 vs. $99 (+$79 per incident fee) for 2 years. If you properly care for your phone the lower costs and better support service is worth the price.
If you're clumsy the Applecare 2 incidents + fee equals $257 which is still lower than $264 Rogers. The only reason Rogers is better is losing your phone and this might be a good idea to screw them over...

So just picked up my wifes 16gig slate. I am very impressed with how it went. only took me about 10 minutes at Rogers for everything including them setting it up. They said the computer for the rogers activation system was upgraded after last year.
Phone is very nice. I'm really impressed with the free speaker. It gives great sound.
