You can easily back up and restore data on your iPhone, including contacts, apps, and purchased Apple Store content.

There are two ways to back up and restore data on your iPhone:

  1. Apple iCloud from your phone; or
  2. Apple iTunes from your computer.

iOS 9 or lower:

  1. Make sure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Tap Settings > iCloud then scroll down and tap Backup.
  3. Turn on iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now. Wait until the backup process finishes.

iOS 10 or Higher:

  1. Make sure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Launch the Settings app, tap on your Apple ID at the top of the settings then scroll down and tap iCloud Backup
  3. On the next screen, turn on iCloud Backup (if not already on) then tap Back Up Now. Wait until the backup process finishes.

Note: Don’t forget to sync with iTunes to back up any music or videos that are saved on your iPhone that wasn’t purchased through iTunes, plus your call history and other data not backed up by iCloud.

Restore your iPhone’s data using the backup file you created. This will restore things like contacts, apps, and App Store purchases.

  1. After erasing your phone and turning it on for the first time, follow the onscreen setup process.
  2. When you get to the Apps & Data screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup.
