Xperia Z3 Battery drain on 5.0.2. Waiting for OS update!!

Hi. With Rogers' update of the xperia Z3 to android 5.0.2, the battery is now draining much faster.
It's because of a known bug (Google Services being on much longer and often than it should).
I've got the Xperia Z2 tablet (no carrier), and Sony released the update to fix that bug (and add back the button to close all running apps too).
Please Rogers, send the same update on our Xperia Z3! I bought this phone for the battery duration, and know because of the bug that is fixed on Sony's side, but not sent by you, the battery drains for no reason :-(

Hello @Alkerion1

Hmm my Z3 lasts me around 11-12 hrs. It all depends I guess. The "OS Upgrade Schedule" will be updated when the update will come out. You can also contact Sony and send in the device to see if they can change the battery. U never know, it could also be the battery causing this.

Re: Xperia Z3 Battery drain on 5.0.2. Waiting for OS update!!

Hello,

Yes, i know the OS update page.

But the patch for the sony xperia series (like the z3) is not listed.

I received the update weeks ago on my carrierless xperia z2 tablet.

Battery is better, and we got back the button to kill all running applications, as i was already mentionning.

So, please just tell the rogers teams to push the last sony update.

So far, since several years, Rogers is very bad at delivering updates in good times.

Why do we always have to wait weeks or months?

Hello @Alkerion1

To be honest, they won't update the OS Upgrade Schedule threads with a small update. That will come automatically into our phones and that's all.

I do have the Z2 tablet and saw the update. Mind u that is unlocked and doesn't have a carrier attached that is one reason. Second reason on why we wait is due to security reasons and making sure the update works on the device without any major issues and it's tested. Also it depends on the manufacturer and carrier when it's released.

Re: Xperia Z3 Battery drain on 5.0.2. Waiting for OS update!!

Hi,

That's now more than 2 months that the update has been released for the Xperia Z3 by Sony.

You can check that on the Sony Mobile Canada site:

http://support.sonymobile.com/ca-fr/xperiaz3/software/

Dernier logiciel disponible

Version Android: Android 5.0 (Lollipop)

Dernier logiciel disponible: 23.1.A.1.28

Lancement de version: 2015-05-05

Though, the update is still not available from Rogers to our phones.

And we still have these bugs (at least):

- SMS application is broken in Ultra Stamina mode

- Clear all applications in memory function is missing. Comes with the update.

- "Google Services" is taking a lot of battery usage, even in Stamina more. Battery life reduced.

Please send us the update !!!

Re: Xperia Z3 Battery drain on 5.0.2. Waiting for OS update!!

Hey @Alkerion1

I have a Sony Xperia Z3 from Rogers and I too noticed significant battery drain after updating to Lollipop.

Our phones have a feature I'm sure you're aware of called Stamina mode. After much trial and error I discovered that Lollipop settings seem to supercede certain Stamina mode settings, causing faster battery drain.

What I did to correct my battery drain was this:

Go into Settings - WiFi - tap the menu button (located in upper right corner & looks like 3 dots) - Advanced.

Look for the option "Keep WiFi on during sleep" and set to NEVER.

EDIT: Almost forgot one other major setting! Go into your Display options and make sure "Smart Backlight Control" is set to ON.

This corrected the battery drain for me. Hope it helps!

Hi @awade1,

Thank you for your post.

We appreciate that you took the time to bring this to our attention. Sometimes an update or factory reset may or may not work to resolve a battery drain issue on the Sony Xperia devices. @Alkerion1 can also check out the information we've put together below:

Optimize Battery Life on Android Devices

Note: these are just tips and aren't mandatory to sustain battery life.

  1. Toggle down the brightness level of the backlight.
    • This can be adjusted within the device settings.
  2. Use the built in Battery Usage screen to help monitor applications that are consuming the most battery.
    • This tool can be found within the device settings.
  3. Disable Wi-Fi when it’s not in use.
  4. Disable Bluetooth when it’s not in use.
  5. Disable or decrease the time for the automatic sync options.
    • This can be applied for all applicable apps and email accounts.
    • This can be adjusted within the devices or app settings.
  6. Minimize the applications running in the background.
    • This can be adjusted by using the Application manager tool found within the device settings.
  7. Disable GPS when it’s not in use.
  8. Avoid using animated wallpapers or screensavers.
  9. Go into Settings and select Stamina Mode

Hope it helps you out
