WiFi Calling and VoLTE for Google Pixel

Does anyone have any information as to whether WiFi Calling and VoLTE will be supported on the Google Pixel? My Pixel is pretty much useless at home without these features. For a flagship, I am shocked that these features were not offered from the Pixel launch date.

@SWade let me know if you post an open letter on Facebook and I will Like it.

RCS is limited in reach at this point and if it catches on more providers will support it. This is not exclusive to Rogers.

@Mythen Glad to hear someone is happy with Rogers' VoLTE support and has it working. They could if they wanted to make more people happy and improve their public image...but they chose not to.

@alanina

I am sad to hear that you and a few others are having this problem. My overall experience has been great. Rogers has treated me well so far. We live in Atlantic Canada and LTE service is not great compared to Ontario but still not bad

I had the same issue. I bought a Pixel XL from Rogers last november. I then had a replacement device issued by Google because I had a problem with the charger and I contacted Google support directly on the phone and they changed my device. (Very good support btw). But because of that, RCS and VoLTE is blocked by Rogers as you know they don't want devices not coming directly from them to use those features. I contacted them and all they offered me is a replacement device, but, as they said, "not a new one". A demo or something like this (the lady told me it's not a refurbished device and not a new one, it's in-between...) I then contacted Google to let them know what was going on and they told me this situation is unacceptable since they repair all devices, either they come from the Google store or Rogers or whatever and that this is poor customer service. So they are escalating the case and they'll let me know.. You guys should all contact Google support and let them know you are experiencing the same issues.

Contacting Google directly kind of seems like our best recourse right now, so props for the idea.

They possibly have the leverage to force Rogers into unlocking the feature.

Excellent points @Fbeauseigle that was exactly my point when I talked to the Technical rep that Pixel phones are all the same and this is just a Trumpian wall or restriction put in place by a square headed Marketing "specialist".

If their message they are trying to push is that you get more if you buy your device from Rogers they are going to fail because that will make them just a retailer. On the other hand if they were trying to implement and enable a feature that brings some benefit to their network and improves the experience of all their customers with phones that can take advantage of that feature - that would make sense, would be good publicity, they would save money and make users happy.

Unfortunately they simply don't care and the first level agents/mods we bump into this forum or on the phone have no choice - their hands are pretty much tied and they could pretty much read the script they were given.

Sad story in 2017 when other companies are planning to go to Mars!

@Fbeauseigle I also contacted Google but all I got so far from their customer service the offer to replace my phone because we did a conference call with Tech support at Rogers and they said they enabled everything they could at their end.

I obviously need to escalate this since I have the feeling reps don't want to talk to me and they just find excuses.

Maybe someone should contact one of those consumer complaint columnists in the newspapers.

Something doesn't sound right, and I assume those who have VoLTE working aren't posting or checking this forum.
I bought my Pixel XL from Wireless Wave and not directly from Rogers, but VoLTE is provisioned & working fine without contacting their support team.
If Rogers is willing to add your IMEA # to they're database, make sure your device is up to date & check VoLTE status as mentioned in previous posts by dialing this # on your phone:
*#*#4636#*#*

Then click on Phone Information, and you should see VoLTE provisioned option set to On under the option Cellular Radio Power.

Hope this helps.

I switched from Bell to Rogers in Dec 2016 & couldn't be happier that I did.

So I checked my phone using this code, and while the VoLTE switch is enabled, the video calling and WiFi calling we're not enabled. Correct me if my memory isn't serving me well today, but wasn't video calling one of the features advertised when VoLTE was being promoted? It was meant to give Android users something that iPhone users have had forever.
This also indicates to me that Rogers could make everyone very happy by flipping a couple switches in our configuration to enable video calling and WiFi calling.

That's done with an app, such as Facetime on iPhones.  There's Duo on Android, which does video calling.  It's also available for iPhones, but Facetime is strictly iPhone only.

Wifi calling and video calling can be used by third party apps but suppose to be integrated into the phone. My friend that has Rogers with a Samsung has video calling built in to phone dialer and it's also on Rogers website under volte features. But they seem to not unlock these features on all phone capable for some reason.

It's a real mess and they should have better support for this. My phone is from Rogers and volte has been working well for me but the lack of knowledge from Rogers employees is sad when I was getting support. The fact that google store pixel devices aren't working and Rogers isn't supporting it's features shouldn't be a issue.

@samin my Pixel XL that was bought from Google (because it wasn't available from Rogers) is updated and is showing VoLTE as provisioned however when calling it drops down to 3G which shows VoLTE is not working.

I called Rogers and they said they did add my IMEI to their database however the system is still detecting my phone as a non-Rogers - maybe that check is looking for something else too. I don't know.

The thing is I do have a perfectly good Pixel XL and I pay them monthly but they chose to not fix the problem (VoLTE doesn't work on my phone).

Thanks. That is a very useful code. Is there a list of these codes for other devices and other carriers?

so i purchased a pixel xl direct from rogers the other day, made sure software was up to date with the build that released volte. It won't work. Everytime I make a call it drops from LTE to H. Any ideas?

Re: WiFi Calling and VoLTE for Google Pixel

Hi @pixel1,

Welcome to the Community Forums!

You've come to the right place.  Congrats on your new Pixel XL purchase btw! Can you confirm if you've enabled VoLTE in the settings? Do you receive any error messages when you attempt to activate?  I'm hoping the issue has been resolved since your last post, but please do let us know if you need further assistance!

Kind regards,

RogersShaun

If you are new to this forum, I suggest you go back and read most of the posts. You will soon realize that it is likely not going to happen any time soon. Sorry you didn't hear the news before you laid out all that money for an otherwise great phone.

Hello @natewiebe13

As Swade said, unfortunately it may not work due to the limitations Rogers has at the moment.

It honesty is a great phone but having features like this blocked makes the phone useless for some.

I am on the same boat. Every time I place or get a call, phone falls back to 3G. "Phone info" (*#*#4636#*#*) now tells me the phone is provisioned for VoLTE (before that option was greyed out), but IMS service status tells me "IMS registration: Not Registered" and "Voice over LTE: Unavailable"

I wonder if they "add my IMEI" if that would make it work. How did you make them add your phone to their database?

@ivanpetrov

You can try calling Rogers or sending a PM to @CommunityHelps asking them to add your IMEI to your account, and confirm that it's provisioned for WiFi calling on Rogers End.

Are there any updates to WiFi calling for the Google Pixel??

My house has almost no signal in the basement, so I miss calls/SMS when I'm on call. I don't want to switch cell companies, but may have to if WiFi calling doesn't happen soon. Come on Rogers!
