Once again its the time of the year that Samsung announces their new Galaxy S line up. I am happy to announce that Samsung this morning announced the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+!. The device has a breathe taking new design which includes 88% screen ration, S8 is 5'7 inch screen and the S8+ is 6'2 inch screen, Fingerprint sensor on the back and new Snapdragon processor. Also comes in different colors and includes more features!! 



1). Once Rogers has announce when they will add the Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ to the reservation list & the day comes, sign into your My Rogers account - Click on the account you want to access ( Some have multiple accounts ) - click on your number ( if you have multiple numbers) - scroll down and click on Device Reservation. Click that & it will take you to the page. Once there you will need to pick which device you want and it wil,l show you a list which will include the Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ in Black and what other colors they may release it on. You also need to pick the store you want it to go too. Just to make it clear, reservations are for current Rogers wireless customers which have contracts with them. Rogers will put up the Pre order list for people that want to pre order the phone which have no wireless accounts with Rogers. Also just too add below is the meaning of the statues . The reservation list is different statues and numbers for all models / colors and groups ( Business, Consumer and pre orders have different line ups and numbers.)

- If your status is "OPEN", your reservation has been made and we are awaiting product from our supplier. At this time you can change your pick-up location, contact email address or cancel your reservation.
- If your status is "CANCELLED", your reservation has been cancelled and your reservation fee will be credited back to your account.
- If your status is "IN PROGRESS", we have begun the shipment process and you will not be able to edit or cancel your reservation any longer. The next email you will get will be the one that confirms shipment to the store you chose.
- If your status is "SHIPPED", your device has left our warehouse and is on its way to the store you chose. Keep in mind that you can NOT reserve a device via calling them or going to the store. It can ONLY happen if the reservation system is down but they will to reserve it via online. Plus if you reserve it via phone, you will NOT see your status or know what number you are VS reserving it online. The store can help you log into ur account and let u do it but there is no pre order list in store.


2). Please keep in mind that if you pick a Rogers Authorized dealership, you may not be able to get the device soon after it ships. This has been the main issue with all the iPhone reservations & most of the other devices which have been on the reservation system. I would suggest you pick a Local Rogers store (Corporate Rogers store or Rogers Plus) to go to get it. When the Rogers warehouse sends it out, the Rogers stores will get them first. Some of the Rogers Authorized dealers have their own warehouse in which the devices will go to. After that there is no tracking until the device ships from that warehouse & goes to the store & they call you. You can also look for your FlexTab aka upgrade fee online via My Rogers or contact Rogers & they will let you know.


3). Also remember you are going to have to put down a $40 fee to reserve the device. Once it ships out, the $40 fee will be reversed back into your account. IF you want to cancel your reservation, that $40 will also be credit back to you. So either way you will get that $40 back. Also remember you may NOT be the first to get the phone if you have a high number or a low one. The Reservation system is made to have a device reserved for you as the stores will be sold out. If your reservation status still says “ OPEN” after launch & a store has a device in stock, you can still go in the store & get it. Then come back home & cancel the reservation online. If the status is “ IN PROGRESS” & you get a device via a store that have one for u, you have to wait until it ships out & then tell the store that u picked u do not want it. Do reemember the reservation number is CANADA - WIDE. This means if lets say you are #45 in line for the black one, you are #45 for that GB , color & model Canada wide. Also keep in mine you have to be the account holder in order to pick up the device at the store. No one else can. You can try adding a family member as Level on the account but some stores will decline it.


4) .For Corporate / Business customers. You guys will have a different line then regular customers do. This means you guys have a few different statutes then regular customers do. Also keep in mind for the past few years there has been issues / confusen about business customers getting the phones via the reservation. You guys will be getting them the day of launch or after depending on your status & what goes on.

EDIT - The phone is available in Midnight Black and Orchid Gray in Canada. Maple Gold, Tactic Silver and Coral Blue, along with Midnight Black and Orchid Gray colour variants will be available in the U.S. and other markets. 

 

So sadly we are only getting the Midnight Black and Orichrd Gray in Canada. Later on we will get the other colors hopefully. 

 

EDIT 2 - In Canada the S8 is set to start at $1,035 CAD with the S8+ costing $1,115. Carrier pricing is not avialable  at the moment. Soon it will be. 

 

EDIT 3 - April 21st is when the S8 / S8+ will be launched!

Yes, it is a must to have a case! 🙂 

I currently use the official samsung clear view cover. It is a good case. I just don't like the hassle of flippnf the cover every time. I ordered the official screen protector and clear cover in black. Just waiting for them to be delivered.

Once I get the Otterbox Alpha glass screen protector then I'll change cases to NY Neo Hybrid case from Spigen. I got a amazing deal for the screen protector so i gotta wait a week.

Yes I'm really enjoying this phone.

Screen is amazing
Battery life is on par with my iPhone 7 Plus
Android 7 has been great
Just so much more freedom coming from iOS again

Just waiting on my Spigen Neo Hybrid Case, wireless rapid charging stand and screen protector. Should have those by tomorrow or Thursday. The wife didn't like me switching but I'm loving it for sure

I had the phone since Friday night but only opened it last night as I was away for the weekend. So, it only basically took me less than 24 hours to get the message.

Does your edge lighting feature work when you get a notification? I already tried everything to make it work but it is not working for me.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Wireless Charger

 

Seems that the current wireless fast charger (stand) EP-NG930 can charge slowly an S8 but not Fast Charge because the charging pad apparantly has only 1 coil where the new Convertible Wireless Charger has 2 or more coils.

Rogers does not seem to carry carry a compatible S8 wireless charger.

 

Any insight if all true and when will Rogers start to supply the compatible Samsung Convertible Wireless Charger EP-PG950TBEGCA anytime soon?

Why does it have to come from Rogers?  Can't you order that unit from other shops?

Unfortunately that is incorrect. Indeed the wireless charging pad Model # EP-NG930 does do fast charging wirelessly with the S8 and S8+. I have a S8+ and this charging pad and it works just fine doing fast charging on it. As u can see on the links below I took just now, it shows u that too. Maybe u are NOT using the fast charging adapter? Or maybe u need to attach urs knwthe outlet instead of a powerbar. Mine works just fine as u can see so yes it does work without issues. Many of us 2 weeks ago confirmed this too on here and when speaking to Samsung Canada. @DeanD@ it works just fine. Maybe they have not enabled fast charging or using the adapter for fast charging. Also Rogers won't be carrying it until later on from what i was told. Also yes the new wireless charger pad has 2 or more coils, this one has one which works just fine but it won't charge the phone As fast as the new one with more coils. However it does do fast charging.

I just popped my S8+ on my very old wireless charger (chinese clone) that I bought years ago for my Nexus 5, and it's charging my phone. Not fast charging, but it's working.  I haven't used that thing in years.  Bonus for me!

 

@Meowmix not sure why you mentioned me in the previous reply.  I was just asking why @something1965 could not buy the samsung charger from another supplier instead of Rogers...

My post got edited to many times but the message I was saying towards u was " yeah you can get it from another supplier but unfortunately not many have them in stock" that part got edited out for some reason.

Also nice! Atleast you now are able to use that for wireless charging but I would be careful just incase anything happens!

I preordered on March 30 through calling Rogers sales team on the phone. After that, they said that I should receive a confirmation email soon with further instructions. I asked them whether I need to do anything at all, and asked whether I'll still be getting my Gear VR and Netflix, they said yes.

 

Fast-forward a month and 4 calls checking for updates later, by looking at this thread I found out that I was supposed to submit some form to Samsung in order to qualify for my Gear VR bonus.

 

I have not received any notification from Rogers, any email, neither did they mention it on the phone. I was not told that I'm supposed to do anything about my preorder bonuses, to a direct question about whether I need to do anything else. They told me to just wait.

 

Now rogers support is just repeating the same thing - that I was supposed to fill out the form, there is nothing they can do. Samsung support is saying the same thing, "I understand you as a consumer, but to get the gear VR you needed to fill the form before April 20". 

 

Not only I was screwed by Rogers's delivery dates, people who order 10 days ago get their phone, and I'm waiting since MARCH 30! More than a month, but I am also not getting my preorder bonuses apparently, because they did not notify me of further steps, I still did not get any email from Rogers, and nobody can tell me my position in line, except for that they can see a note on my account that the preorder was successful.

 

I have no idea what can a consumer like I do anything about this situation. Neither party is willing to do anything about it, and just say we're sorry for the inconvenience. Helpless.

It's easy to blame everyone else. While I feel for your situation, truth is, you need to accept responsibility. Instructions were very clear for the most part and if there was doubt, there was plenty of areas to get guidance. It sucks, I know, but you really need to look no further than the mirror.

Sadly this is a thing everyone u should be aware of as a customer and also look online for it before getting the final work from a rep. Rogers and Samsung DID in fact notify customers and it was posted online. Samsung had it posted online and Rogers also did as well Unfortunately some reps did fail to give that information but Samsung did post that link on April 1st and or the second I believe.. Rogers had it on a clear message online when checking out their site for the S8 pre orders and Samsung did as well. Also many tech sites poste this too. Unfortunately its something that can't do nothing at this moment unless Samsung managers on the call center are able to give u one. This is the second time Samsung has done this with pre orders BUT the first time with the Note 7, Samsung has told it's customers via the announcement and emails that to get the pre order bonus, u has to fill out a form and show proof of the pre order. This time however Samsung changed it and wanted it's customers with any carrier other then Telus to do the pre order forum to get it.

I out the blame on Samsung as they failed to make this clear at the announcement of the S8 and S8+. I Can't fully blame the Rogers rep as on March 30th, Samsung never had told us that the customers who pre ordered had to fill out that form. The responsibility goes to all including u as u should have searched it on google before waiting around. I'm sure looking around on Google u would have seen it as many tech sites, Rogers, Bell and Fido and other carriers had posted it on their website as well.

So when you pre ordered on the phone March 30th, the pre order bonus was said it would come BUT the reps never knew how. On April 1-3rd is when carriers started posting online that u need to do the form. So the blame isn't just Rogers or Samsung.

I do not spend my days looking around for Samsung s8+ preorder info, scanning samsung's website for updates, and rogers website as well. I also do not spend my free time browsing tech forums. I simply expected an email with further steps.

Bottom line:
I called Rogers to order my phone. They said preorder was successful. I asked whether I need to do anything else. I was told no. I was not contacted via email/phone about any further steps necessary. Everything else is history.
