Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge Questions / Reservation number!

Meowmix
I'm a trusted advisor

Hey everyone!!

I am happy to announce that Samsung this morning announced the Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge!. Both device's seem to have amazing specs! Including memory SD card slot, water resistant and more!!

1). Once Rogers has announce when they will add the Samsung Galaxy S7 &S7 Edge to the reservation list & the day comes, sign into your My Rogers account - Product & Services – Wireless & you will see a Red wording saying “Device Reservation" on the main page. Click that & it will take you to the page. Once there you will need to pick which device you want; Samsung S7 Black, S7 Silver or S7 Edge Black. You also need to pick the store you want it to go too. Just to make it clear, reservations are for current Rogers wireless customers which have contracts with them. Rogers will put up the Pre order list for people that want to pre order the phone which have no wireless accounts with Rogers. Also just too add below is the meaning of the statues .

- If your status is "OPEN", your reservation has been made and we are awaiting product from our supplier. At this time you can change your pick-up location, contact email address or cancel your reservation.
- If your status is "CANCELLED", your reservation has been cancelled and your reservation fee will be credited back to your account.
- If your status is "IN PROGRESS", we have begun the shipment process and you will not be able to edit or cancel your reservation any longer. The next email you will get will be the one that confirms shipment to the store you chose.
- If your status is "SHIPPED", your device has left our warehouse and is on its way to the store you chose. Keep in mind that you can NOT reserve a device via calling them. It can ONLY happen if the reservation system is down but they will to reserve it via online. Plus if you reserve it via phone, you will NOT see your status or know what number you are VS reserving it online.

2). Please keep in mind that if you pick a Rogers Authorized dealership, you may not be able to get the device soon after it ships. This has been the main issue with all the iPhone reservations & most of the other devices which have been on the reservation system. I would suggest you pick a Local Rogers store (Corporate Rogers store or Rogers Plus) to go to get it. When the Rogers warehouse sends it out, the Rogers stores will get them first. Some of the Rogers Authorized dealers have their own warehouse in which the devices will go to. After that there is no tracking until the device ships from that warehouse & goes to the store & they call you. You can also look for your FlexTab aka upgrade fee online via My Rogers or contact Rogers & they will let you know.

3). Also remember you are going to have to put down a $40 fee to reserve the device. Once it ships out, the $40 fee will be reversed back into your account. IF you want to cancel your reservation, that $40 will also be credit back to you. So either way you will get that $40 back. Also remember you may NOT be the first to get the phone if you have a high number or a low one. The Reservation system is made to have a device reserved for you as the stores will be sold out. If your reservation status still says “ OPEN” after launch & a store has a device in stock, you can still go in the store & get it. Then come back home & cancel the reservation online. If the status is “ IN PROGRESS” & you get a device via a store that have one for u, you have to wait until it ships out & then tell the store that u picked u do not want it. Do reemember the reservation number is CANADA - WIDE. This means if lets say you are #45 in line for the black one, you are #45 for that GB , color & model Canada wide. Also keep in mine you have to be the account holder in order to pick up the device at the store. No one else can. You can try adding a family member as Level on the account but some stores will decline it.

For frequently asked questions about the Rogers Reservation System, please click here Rogers Reservation FAQ

4) .For Corporate / Business customers. You guys will have a different line then regular customers do. This means you guys have a few different statutes then regular customers do. Also keep in mind for the past few years there has been issues / confusen about business customers getting the phones via the reservation. You guys will be getting them the day of launch or after depending on your status & what goes on.

EDIT - As of tomorrow February 22nd the reservations system will open for us to reserve the device!. There is no time unfortunately.

Let's make this thread the only thread for the devices please and if you guys have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me and I'll gladly be able to help :).

So sad . . . and the manager was supposed to call me back yesterday to discuss upgrading my other cell line to a new phone . . . and to make sure all was OK with the S7 Edge . . . this is ridiculously frustrating and the reason I think my 19 year relationship with Rogers will be coming to an end. I never get a straight answer when I call in and it angers me to no end! So best buy shows that they have stock in store when I check it online. If I go to a store could I not just pick one up there!??! I've had it with Rogers. And they're going to lose a substantial account when I leave. I mean I have all my services with them so my bill comes to ~$600 a month...

Hello @lynx01

You can go into any Best Buy Mobile ( within Best Buy) and upgrade your account to the new device you would like. Business and corporate customers can not though. So if you are a existing consumer customer then you are good to go. They will fill out eveything and set u up and that's all!.

Does Rogers ever plan on selling the galaxy s7 and s7 edge unlocked at full retail price? I don't see the point of paying full price for a bloat ware locked cell at that price! This would be a huge mistake if they don't plan on offering the choices to customers to do so. Reason being that living next to the USA border I've been purchasing cell phones last several years available unlocked once purchased at full retail. I feel Rogers would gain more customers and support if they did so. If Rogers doesn't plan on this very soon please inform so I can go back to iPhone unfortunately. The galaxy s5 was my first Android after years of iPhone and loved the s5. Yet if I can't (as many consumers agree) purchase bloat ware free and truly unlocked galaxy at full retail than I can see the switching back to iphones and other carriers. Monopolizing of the Ontario market compared to Prarie provinces is kind of pathetic. Since I travel/work in the USA I'd rather carry one cell and swap Sims. I pay $80 per month unlimited everything including international roaming all in no extra charges from my USA carrier. Than again so many more carriers in USA and no big three board member run crtc.
Please consider giving consumers proper options. Run a trial and see if Rogers will gain back customers doing so or even buy out contracts of other carriers like they do over the border. No stepping on toes now tho? Since big 3 are pretty much the big 1 lol.

Hello @Stbear007

Unfortunately carriers won't sell any devices fully unlocked regular price. You pa y the outright price to get it and pay the additional $50 to unlock it immediately but other then that no. Sadly no carrier in Canada does this so it's not only Rogers. It seems to be a rule between all carriers.

Yes the last few years it has become the big 1 rule so no one steps on toes anymore to control the market. The other 2 have always been in bed with each other which is the reason I switched to Rogers years ago. Mainly because rogers (at&t) didn't play well with the other 2 and that was great and about time! That was until bell got to rogers and convinced otherwise. Now rogers I would see gain back majority of market share like it did back then by separating and getting g back to their (rogers) initial roots. Go back to being number one Rogers and give options you will see people follow you back as customers.
Again ty and looks like back to apple store (not for me but oh well its unlocked from the start)

Hello @Stbear007

Exactly. So thus that's why no carrier in Canada is able to sell a device outright fully unlocked without any bloatware. Apple is doing this from their store one and so is Samsund from their own Samsung Experience stores.

So I went in to Best buy to see if I could expedite this process, only to have them say that since they had already processed an upgrade at customer service, there wasn't anything they could do, unless rogers canceled it on the if end so they could reprocess the upgrade in store. Well when I called customer service they explained to me that apparently since they are doing a swap of devices for me it'll take 7 to 10 business days. This makes no sense since I've done several swaps before and never had an issue with it taking this long!! Has this ever happened to anyone else?!!? I'm so done . . . . i hate fighting with Rogers on a daily basis. This is just disgusting.

Hello @lynx01

That is correct. Best buy can not process a upgrade if the account to has already done a upgrade within the past 30 days as the system won't allow it to go through ( on Rogers side).

You doing the swap before doesn't nessaseryly mean that it will be as easy as last time. Due to the demand of the device and supply limitations with Rogers and some carriers, it will take a longer then usual timing to get it. Did you upgrade before hand and gave back that phone and wanted the S7?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge Questions / Reservation number!

Essentially that is what happened. I got the Priv, it was severely defective and they sent out a replacement. Well the replacement has a horrible battery life among many other issues I've been having with Rogers. So in order to make it up to me the said they would offer me an "out of warranty swap" and waive the fee for that and give me any phone I wanted for free. So I chose the S7. That unfortunately doesn't explain why there's been 0 communication from Rogers. They tell me they have had the phone in Stock since at least Friday. So why can't this be escalated and handled already? This is a unique situation and I'm not exactly asking for special treatment, but seriously!! It's been 6 business days now not including the day I was processed! That's excessive!

Hello @lynx01

Yeah since 2 swaps have been happening it seems like the system may be having difficulties doing the exchange or something else is going on..

I would suggest speaking to a manager to have them escalate this further. If u have done this, keep going at it until something is said or done. That's the only thing that can happen. I see ur point though and a little bit more communication needs to be done

For those that didn't know or are interested in purchasing a galaxy s7 or edge full price from Rogers I was told by Samsung today that once the Sim card is put in it will lock to Rogers carrier.
Yet to call Samsung directly and they will give the unlock code to you to make it truly unlocked. That's what Samsung said today on phone when I asked them. So you won't have to pay additional to wsp for unlocking. Just FYI and I am not responsible if Samsung rep is wrong lol.

Hello @Stbear007

Unfortunately that is not correct. That's wrong information that the Samsung rep gave u. That only applies it you buy the device straight from Samsung. If you buy it from Rogers or any carrier, u will need to pay the unlock fee first.

I will call again and record conversation as most companies do. That is what the rep said can be done. Ty for the info

Hello @Stbear007

Just a friendly reminder, before recording the conversation, you need to ask the rep first if it's okay to record the conversation because if u don't get the Okay from them, they can charge you for recording a conversation without permission and also can be used towards u in any way possible meaning courts, CRTC won't help you either. So be careful with that. Many have done it and in the end it only hurt them then anything. Also if u do get the okay to record them, it doesn't mean they are right as well. Most reps including Rogers reps are always misinformed and give out the wrong information. I work for Best Buy ( Senior manager) thus why I am saying this to u. Rogers and all the other carriers have a policy which states any device u buy outright from them u must pay a unlocking fee. This is also included in the CRTC website as well.

" F. Mobile device issues

1. Unlocking
A service provider that provides a locked device to the customer as part of a contract must
A. for subsidized devices: unlock the device, or give the customer the means to unlock the device, upon request, at the rate specified by the service provider, no later than 90 calendar days after the contract start date.
B. for unsubsidized devices: unlock the device, or give the customer the means to unlock the device, at the rate specified by the service provider, upon request.

And the saga continues....so I got a rep that with the assistance of his manager decided they wanted to cancel the swap and reprocess it. Well that didn't work but I actually got a call back from the rep who at least kept me in the loop. He told me they were escalating this to see what is actually going on. When I spoke to them yesterday I told them I was giving them 48 hours to figure this out, or else bye bye rogers. I'm not dealing with the continuous mind boggling levels of incompetence that they keep showing. If they're going to try and pull this with me, someone who's been with them for 20 YEARS, who else do they do this with. Question for anyone? If I sign up for a new provider will they bill me for the phone, or do I have to pay for it on the spot?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge Questions / Reservation number!

And in reference to recording a conversation, I pulled this from the criminal code of Canada:

The Criminal Code, R.S.C. 1985, c. C-46 [Criminal Code] imposes a general prohibition on interception (recording) of private communications, but then provides an exception where one of the parties to the private communication consents to the interception of that communication. Thus, broadly speaking, Canadians can legally record their own conversations with other people, but not other peoples' conversations that they are not involved in.

So under the law, you are permitted to record your own conversations without divulging that fact to the other party since only 1 party member needs to give consent for the recording ie. You, however if a third party is listening to your conversation ie. The government, that is not legal. I just found that out a little while ago myself as I thought it was illegal. So if someone tries to give you trouble for that, simply quote the criminal code, and you're OK since you're within the letter of the law.

Oh I do ask the other person if OK to record conversation just like they do for my own protection as well. I've had companies lie about something and sent them a wave file of conversation and had issues overturned in my favor.
Again ty for the code

Rogers wouldnt let me leave with the phone until the sim card was installed because the phones only do lock once the simcard is insterted. For someone that travels though, not much reason to unlock the phone with the roam like home option. Same price as a USA plan but in CAD not USD.
