ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

M1cha3l
I've been here awhile

Hello,

Just thought I'd ask here because I'm planning on buying an unlocked phone from Japan and am wondering if it will work on your network?(I have rogers and want a cool JP one XD)

I have two models I'm considering:

Docomo Sony SO-04E Xperia A(Unlocked By Docomo):

Network:

  • 2G Network : GSM GPRS EDGE  850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
  • 3G Network : UMTS HSDPA  850, 900, 2100 MHz
  • 4G Network : LTE 800, 1500, 2100 MHz

The other is:

Docomo Sony SO-04D Xperia GX(Unlocked By Docomo):

Network:

  • 2G Network : GSM GPRS EDGE  850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
  • 3G Network : UMTS HSDPA  800, 850, 2100 MHz
  • 4G Network : LTE 2100 MHz

The thing is, they are both identical save for the 1500, 2100 MHz on the second phone and I don't know if that will impede anything, like browsing or the like.

Thanks,

You would likely only get 3g i beleive on those phones.

Of the 3g frequencies, rogers does use 850.

But for LTE, they use 1700 and 2600, which are not available on those phones.

I think it may be 2100 because these are the specs of the SGS3(which I have) and I get 4G/LTE with it...

Connectivity of Samsung Galaxy SIII(This info taken from ROGERS site here)
GSM Bands: 850/900/1800/1900
HSPA+/HSPA Bands: 850/1900/2100
LTE Bands:1700/2100

but going by this i THINK they will work. But this is why I am Confused

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

That just states the freqencies that the S3 tha rogers carries, CAN use.. not that they ARE using.

So you get LTE on that one, on the 1700 band.

I've been around

Hi there!

I was wondering if the Moto X Pure Edition will work on Rogers. The phone was just announced but I don't think it will be sold unlocked in Canada. Here are its connectivity requirments:

Networks

LTE cat. 6 (up to 300 Mbps)
WCDMA
CDMA
EV-DO
TD-SCDMA
GSM/EDGE

Bands

GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
CDMA (800, 850, 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41)

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

Will a Moto G (3rd generation 2015) fully unlocked to all GSM networks straight from the factory, be compatible with Roger's network? I live in Ottawa, how would my coverage compare to one with a phone from Rogers?

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

Hi @ssr04 and @genesis,

Thank you for your post and Welcome to the Community Forums! Smiley Happy

Our network uses GSM, UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz, or LTE technology at 2100/2600 MHz AWS. We also offer LTE on 700Mhz in select locations.

You can find more information here.

Hope you find it helpful

Samsung Galaxy S5 Unlocked can't connect to Rogers Network

Hey all

Just bought Samsung Galaxy S5 Unlocked sm-g900t model from canadacomputers. Registered to T-mobile.

Poped my sim card from my old nexus 4 in and had nothing but headaches ever since.

My nexus 4 had 3g connection to rogers.

Sim card is LTE ready.

Network Mode sees LTE/WCDMA/GSM and other modes. Tried all of them without any luck.

Access point is properly setup.

When trying to Registre to rogers network, it just sais unable to connect.

I don't have a data plan with rogers, could that be an issue? As someone with dissability simply have no use for data plan as im next to wifi 24/7.

Any help is highly welcome.

Good Afternoon @Doxy,

Welcome to the Community Forums!

Just to clarify, is the data the only thing not working for you? Are you able to make calls or send a text?

Have you tried inserting a new SIM card to see if that is the issue?

Hello

Basicly nothing works when i insert my sim card into this new phone.

As soon as i insert my sim back into my unlocked Nexus 4, i get  3g connection, and can make calls etc.

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

Good Afternoon @Doxy,

Did you confirm that the device has been successfully unlocked?  Have you tried using a brand new SIM card from Rogers in the device?

@RogersGabrielle

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

I would add that if it's a brand new phone, it may be defective. I had that exact experience with a new unlocked phone I purchased on Black Friday. Signal would drop to nothing at random and it frequently displayed "SIM not found". Once I exchanged it, poof, no more problem.

So, I concur with the mod, it either wasn't unlocked like they said or the phone is defective. One way to check into it further is to go into the phone settings and ask it to search for a wireless network. If it can't even detect one you can probably be sure it's DOA.

I am planning to buy Elephone P9000 4G Smartphone that has followng network compaitable ; Please advise whether it will work with Rogers 4G LTE or not. I have identified Rogers Network (in Red) as follows ;

Connectivity: 2G, 3G HSPA+, FDD 4G/LTE

GSM: Band 2/3/5/8 (1900/1800/850/900MHz)

WCDMA: Band 1/2/5/8 (2100/1900/850/900MHz)

FDD-LTE: Band 1/3/7/8/20 (2100/1800/2600/900/800MHz)

TDD-LTE: Band 38/40

Where On FDD-LTE world wide:

Band 1: 2100 MHz

Band 2: 1900 MHz

Band 3: 1800 MHz

Band 4: 1700 MHz

Band 5: 850 MHz

Band 7: 2600 MHz

Band 8: 900 MHz

Bands 12,13,14,17: 700 MHz *

Band 20: 800 MHz

Band 28: 700 MHz

* = Be aware that 700 MHz on Bands 12,13,14,17 used mostly in the US and Canada is not compatible with 700 MHz on Band 28 used or going to be used in Australia, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Hello @sammil

From the looks of it yes it should work on LTE but u would need to test it out to make sure.

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

The issue with using a non-Rogers device on the Rogers network is that everything may not work as it would normally. There is in fact no guarantee the phone will work on LTE, and since it is not a Rogers device there would be no obligation to really make it work either.

Hello @locksown2341

That is understadible but again it's worth a shot. All non Rogers devices that I have used even European ones which have the same frequencies as Rogers work. You just need to change some settings your self such as the APN settings.

Again it's not guarantee but it's worth a shot.

Re: ROGERS Network work with Unlocked Phones?

I understand completely. It certainly is worth a shot but I was just setting the expectation that it isn't guaranteed to work.

Hello @lockdown2341

That's true. Hopefully it does end up working for the user! And if not, then I'll try me best with some others to see if we can try and make it work 🙂
