New phone no service

So I bought an S5 yesterday at Rogers and I only ever get one bar anywhere I am in Halifax. Does rogers just not have good cell service or is there something wrong? Also just using Facebook my new S5 has gone down 10% in battery in 15 minutes.

Re: New phone no service

Hi,@Laurenedgett

First I would like to say welcome to the community!

One Bar! that's not right.

Are you connected to Rogers LTE ?

If you go here, you will be able to check your location, and the service available.

Regards,

Re: New phone no service

Hi @Laurenedgett

Halifax should not have issues for network.
I have friends here, and they use Video Call over data with me with out issue.

1 think I want to say, your low bars and battery drain is related.
Because you have low bars the phone tries harder to connect to towers. Facebook is a data extensive application.

You may have an area issue, if you go to different location (Physically different locations), Home, School, Work, Friend's Place, Café etc... do you have same issue with the phone?
Are any of these location more than 5-10km from each other?

Rason I ask is to see if you use different towers.
If you are connected to different towers and phone is still causing the same issue. It is not network, it's the phone causing issue.
So you might have a lemon - the phone may work great but the antenna might cause issue.
How long have you had the phone for?

@RogersAliciaG has also made a VERY good point.
Is your network settings set to LTE or Auto?
Android phones can control a lot of settings. So make sure you have set yours right. Under Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Re: New phone no service

I would recommend testing the phone with tech support.
If you are still under 15 days (Which you are) AND 30 mins, swap your phone out.

You really might have a lemon, why hold on to it?

Re: New phone no service

Hi @Laurenedgett

Sorry to hear about the troubles Smiley Sad

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it for you.

I have a few questions for you so we can try and help you out.

The bars can vary on different devices as they all use different images to convey the signal level.

LTE is meant for high-speed data only which can tend to have less bars but provides faster internet speeds which can also result in higher battery consumption.

Smartphones drop to 3G/4G during calls which have a stronger range(more bars).

  1. What phone did you have before and what type of connections did it use (2G,3G,LTE etc)?
  2. Are you experience any issues with calls or text?

@ShakTiburon , Thanks for your suggestion.

You can bring your device into the Rogers store.

They will be able to have a look into your device and it's settings as well.

Regards,
