Wifi Calling and those pesky 2FA texts

WarrenC1
I've been around

Having trouble finding some definitive answers to my questions regarding wifi calling.

1. I'm planning on being outside of Canada

2. If I activate wifi calling and turn off my Rogers esim, will I be able to receive those 2 factor authentication texts from banks etc while abroad?

3. Do I have to have the wifi calling turned on before I leave Canada, or can I turn it on when I'm expecting something and then turn it off?

4. Will there be any costs to me?

5. What happens if I leave wifi calling on the entire time and I get a phone call or text from someone in Canada? Any cost to me?

I've read the little they have on this subject, but I'd like to hear from someone who has actually used it.

Thank a bunch

I'm an advisor
You can't turn off your eSIM if you want WiFi calling to work. Even though WiFi Calling routes calls through the internet, your SIM being active is still required to do so. What you want to do is put your device in Airplane Mode before leaving Canada and leave it in Airplane Mode until after you return to Canada. If your device connects to a tower while outside of Canada, you will more than likely be charged $15 for Roam Like Home for that day and each day your device connects to a cellular network outside of Canada.

I haven't had any issues using WiFi Calling outside of Canada but I have seen threads where others have. 2FA restrictions are set by the company or institution sending them. Most banks and other 2FA services do not allow their 2FA codes to be sent outside of the country they are based in to cut down on fraud.
