I've been a loyal customer of Rogers for 20 plus years and I'm also a senior citizen. I inquired about switching to the 65 Plus plan and was told I couldn't that it was for new customers only!! Horrible! When seniors are struggling in today's economy we can't even switch to a plan set up for them.
Absolutely disgusting!!!!
So much for loyalty. It's almost like discrimination against existing customers

Rogers does have Connected for Success plans, if you qualify.

Although it may not be the case for you, many of today's seniors are quite well off.

That's a huge assumption! Where did you get that idea?

How have Canadians 65 or older been doing lately when it comes to their financial security? The answer may surprise you: according to the latest data, while many retirees have been struggling to get by on modest incomes, particularly since the inflationary bout that followed the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority seem to be doing better than ever.
P.S. I'm in my 70s...

So if that article is true then why does Rogers the 65 Plus plan at all? Doesn't seem fair to me

1. Same reason many organizations have senior pricing (Shoppers on Thursday, etc). Draws business to their store/organization.
2. If you're a senior, you should know by now that the world is not fair. 😉

Shoppers doesn't discriminate based on income. Every senior gets the discount not just new customers

You do not need to be an Optimum member to get the senior discount and as for self checkout just ask a cashier if there isn't a person there. I do it every time

1. Yes you do:
To benefit from the Seniors Day discount, a customer must be at least 65 years old and present their personal PC Optimum card.
https://www.savvynewcanadians.com/shoppers-drug-mart-seniors-discount/
Buyers must have a valid PC Optimum card to enjoy this discount.
2. Yes, a cashier will go to the self checkout for a senior, but not if there are numerous people lined up at the cashier and they are serving the people in line. It's also not endearing to the people in line if you ask a cashier to leave their station to serve you at the self checkout. Obviously you would never do that and if there is a "free" cashier, no problem, but that's very rare on seniors day here in uptown Toronto.
I've rarely encountered that (spare cashier) situation in hundreds of Thursday trips over the years. Sometimes a second (roving) cashier will ask if a senior in line is paying via credit and that senior may then use the self checkout with the cashier, which moves the line along faster. Your situation/experience may vary.
A bit off-topic for this thread, but hey, I've got the time to help a senior, just like the roving cashier. 😉

I can see the difference. I live in rural Ontario where income is not nearly as good as TO and we have to drive 30 minutes to the nearest Shoppers so a senior getting that discount means everything to them as well as Rogers or any other companies offering a package for seniors without having to be a new customer.
