Question about upload upgrades

DigTV99
I plan to stick around

I have the 500mbps/30mbps service and a few days ago, I noticed that when I input my address on the Rogers website it  shows that my area was upgraded to 200mbps upload.  I rebooted my modem and router but my upload is still capped at 30mbps.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the upgraded upload speed to take effect?

There are no guarantees that your service or upload speed will be upgraded... unless Rogers sends you an email informing you that your service will be upgraded.

My 1.5 Gbps/50 Mbps service got upgraded to 1.5 Gbps/150 Mbps for free (with no action required on my part) but my upload speed did not get upgraded again to 200 Mbps when that speed tier became available in my area.

I didn't receive an email.  Do you think that they mistakenly updated the "up to" speeds for my address (actually my entire street) or do these website updates not coincide with the actual upgrades?

In the last few weeks, I've noticed work being done at a pole on my street.  I thought that maybe I had to call in to have my profile changed to support the upgrade but now that I know they will send an email first, I won't call in.  Thanks for the info.

Typically, Rogers will meet and exceed the upload and download speeds that you subscribe to.  Most customers will see substantially higher burst speeds, and higher sustained speeds.  Just how much depends on what your area can support.

That said, if your local fibre node should ever become overloaded, your upload and download speeds may not match your "advertised" speed, and network performance won't return to normal until Rogers can upgrade the infrastructure in your neighbourhood.  That's where the "up to" words come into play.  Rogers may not always be able deliver advertised speeds, so they will never promise to do so.

Rogers does upgrade aging infrastructure as needed.  If you subscribe to Xfinity Internet, it's entirely possible that they could increase your upload speed at no charge.  It is also possible that they may insist that you officially switch to a 500/200 Mbps (down/up) Xfinity Internet service at current prices.

In the past, legacy Rogers Internet customers (with Hitron modems) were capped at 1 Gbps down / 30 Mbps up, and could not get higher speed tiers unless they upgraded to Ignite Internet and switched to the Comcast-designed modems.

I understand how they use the "up to" term but up until recently, it was advertised as 500 down and 30 up so when I saw 200mbps up on their website after inputting my address, I assumed I would get the upgrade.

I do subscribe to Xfinity Internet. The 200mbps upload would be nice but I'm not going to make a big deal about it as last year, a Rogers technician fixed the intermittent disconnection problem I had and my connection has been very good since then.

Judging from posts from people on other forums about this, they usually got the upgrade right after Rogers updated their website so I'm still not sure if they are just behind schedule or if they made a mistake in updating my area to 200mbps upload.
