Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

I used to be able to send an email to my phone number at xxxxxxxxxx@pcs.rogers.com and it would instantly come through as a text to my phone.

Then at some point Rogers changed how it works, and instead I got a text message saying a new message arrived and I had to respond "READ" to see it.  (Or sometimes, READ multiple times to see the whole thing).  It also took longer to arrive.

Some time after that, it stopped working altogether.  I heard for a while some some people used xxxxxxxxxx@sms.rogers.com instead, but that service was flakey (some messages wouldn't come through).

I found this message from a Rogers rep toward the end of 2018 saying they killed those services.

Now Rogers wants to charge me $5/mo to give me the exact same service.  Seems WAY overpriced just to convert a message to an SMS.

Can anyone recommend an alternative solution?  Are there any third-party SMS gateways known to work well with Rogers?  Or a decent, cheap email-to-push-notification service?

Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

Hi,

I am with D2L (https://www.d2l.com/) a company that develops an E-learning software.

Students from colleges, universities and so on can subscribe to receive SMS messages in their phones from the learning environment, but it seems that one of our servers IP 15.222.0.53 is being blocked we are getting error message "to=<phonenumber@pcs.rogers.com>, relay=none, delay=76030, delays=76002/28/0/0, dsn=4.0.0, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: host rr-mail.rogers.page.ca[70.33.243.137] refused to talk to me: 521 Your server has been blocklisted - see http://www.page.ca/antiabuse/15.222.0.53)" it seems that all the messages that are originated from server 15.222.0.53 are getting blocked.

The address "http://www.page.ca/antiabuse/15.222.0.53" provided in the error message does not work and for that reason I tried to open a request with the Chat Wireless support online but they said that they could not help me with this and that I should contact "https://www.rogers.com/consumer/contactus/share-a-concern" so we did, after a day I got a feedback from them asking me to call 1-855-641-9954, email response "Please call us at 1-855-641-9954 (8AM-11PM EST) and an escalation specialist will be happy to assist you." I am trying to call, I've being waiting for an hour now on the hone and nobody answers.

So I am hoping that I can get some help in here.

Best regards,

Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

Hello, @joaopaulocamara.

Thank you for posting your concern, and welcome to Rogers Community Forums!

I can see how disruptive it can be not to receive the anticipating SMS messages. Please clarify the following for us:

  • When was the last time your students received text messages from that blocked server?
  • Are the students receiving text messages from other servers?
  • Do the text messages originate from a 10 digit phone number? Or do they see a shortcode?
  • Or are you using an email program to send texts?
  • Where do you see the error message you have posted?

Have you reached out to your application/server support? By the description of your post, it seems the server is being blocked by some third party.

Cheers,

RogersMoin

Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

Hi Moin,

The last time your students received text messages from that blocked server was 2020-0814.

The students are receiving messages from other servers no problem, messages are only being blocked when originated from the server with IP 15.222.0.53.

We use a SMTP server (mail server) to send the SMS messages to the students.

We see the error that we have posted on the logs of the mail server 15.222.0.53 when it receives the error message messages back from the Rogers host "rr-mail.rogers.page.ca[70.33.243.137]", but the students are receiving the error messages in their mailboxes as well.

I am in the team the does the server side support for our company and the SMS messages are bing blocked by  host rr-mail.rogers.page.ca[70.33.243.137], so a Rogers server.

Is there any other way that I can reach Rogers server side mail support team?

Regards,

Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

Hello, @joaopaulocamara.

Thank you for providing us with more details.

I am in the team the does the server side support for our company and the SMS messages are bing blocked by  host rr-mail.rogers.page.ca[70.33.243.137], so a Rogers server.

Sorry, the above is not a Rogers' server. The 70.33.243.137 IP address points to Aptum Technologies. The error message you are seeing on the mail server,15.222.0.53 is from the server, 70.33.243.137. Please reach out to your data center to sort the issue out.

Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

Hi @RogersMoin ,

Could you please confirm that Rogers doesn't use Aptum Technologies relays?  We're having an identical issue to @joaopaulocamara .  We're in a completely different industry but are using the A2P notifications in the same manner through the Rogers SMS gateway.  We received the following email from our email host yesterday:

   host rr-mail.rogers.page.ca[70.33.243.136] refused
to talk to me: 450 4.7.1 [EAB] 521 Your server has been blocklisted

The address given is only one digit off of what @joaopaulocamara  gave, and we don't use Atpum Technologies as a relay service, I'm fairly confident that is on Rogers' end.  We too got a link to a www.page.ca/antiabuse for more details but it doesn't link to anything.  Could you please let me know how to go about getting our server whitelisted with Rogers.  We use this A2P notification service on most major North American wireless carriers without issue except for this now with Rogers.

Re: E-mail to Text (SMS)

Hello @arlinfriesen!

Welcome to our Community!

To help cover the costs of improving and maintaining our network for our customers, a fee is charged to companies to deliver SMS through our network. Some A2P providers have chosen to stop supporting Rogers network rather than work with us due to this.

Please contact your A2P provider and work with them. They should have more information on what providers they support.

We can only offer direct support for SMS issues that occur when using a supported device via your Rogers wireless subscription. We don't have the ability to assist with a third party application that sends text messages through our network.

Regards,

RogersCorey
