Community and actual MyRogers under different accounts?

Hi guys

Situation is I have been a member of Rogers community for 2-3 yrs or so under this username, but only recently (~last october, when I switched to Rogers for wireless) have MyRogers associated with an actual service (wireless, cable, and internet)

These two accounts (Community and MyRogers) are under separate emails and separate accounts. I was wondering if there was a way to consolidate the two?

Thanks

Hey @jackthecompguy
Yes you can.
But with a sacrifice.

If you unlink your services with email address, and use your community forums email address/myRogers logg in and link it, you will be easily able to consolidate that. (you can unlink yourself once your log in to myRogers profile)

Your username for your Community Nick name however is your Rogers profile. and won't be able to "move it" to email address your myRogers Profile with services are attached.

What's the sacrifice? You lose your previous online access to bills once your unlink, since it won't be the profile you'd be using.

Confusing right?
You can have LiveChat help you with this, or do it yourself.

Any clarification, ask away. :]
Hope this helps though!

  • Edit: [Retyping my train of thought]

Profile A = Your Rogers Service Profile

Profile B = Your Community Profile

You can move (unlink) rogers Service from A to B (link) but you will loose access to your previous bills because it is unlinked from A.

You can't move your Community forum nickname from B to A; since the community profile is the myRogers profile itself. You can't move a profile into another profile.

^ Hope that was clear.

Unless Mods can move your community profile (which I obviously would not know).

Hi @jackthecompguy

To my knowledge this isn't possible unless you perform what @ShakTiburon has suggested and move your accounts to your old MyRogers(Community) account.

I have tagged our Specialist @RogersDarrell  to provide some clarification on this topic.

Re: Community and actual MyRogers under different accounts?

Thank you @ShakTiburon
This makes sense. I have three questions...

1) I understand I will lose access to previous bills (which I don't care about since I back them up externally anyway) but I would still see *new* bills come up in account B, right?

2) Can I totally cancel account A after I unlink and relink to B, and then change the email address associated with B to use the same one that I used with A ?
and
3) The MyRogers account does not change which email the Rogers techs have on file? (ie when I call in they ask for name, d.o.b, postal code, and confirm the email on the account is xxxx@gmail.com)

Thanks!!

@jackthecompguy

Personally, I think you are better off keeping the 2 different accounts - one to log into the forums and one to log into your Rogers account. I do this and do not want my actual Rogers account associated at all with my log-in to these forums!

Hey @jackthecompguy glad that it made sense. Smiley Happy

@RogersAsif I would greatly appriciate if @RogersDarrell gives his insights on this as well! Smiley Happy

As to answer your question:

1) I understand I will lose access to previous bills (which I don't care about since I back them up externally anyway) but I would still see *new* bills come up in account B, right?

A. Yes the *New* bills will come to Account B. Since it will be linked to that from here on.

2) Can I totally cancel account A after I unlink and relink to B, and then change the email address associated with B to use the same one that I used with A ?

A. Totally cancel? Technically. LiveChat can "Disengage" your account and release your email address so no access will be there. Since it will be unlinked, Profile A will be an empty bucket of nothing.

3) The MyRogers account does not change which email the Rogers techs have on file? (ie when I call in they ask for name, d.o.b, postal code, and confirm the email on the account is xxxx@gmail.com)

A. That email address is your 'confirmation' email address, and no it will not change unless you ask for it to be changed when you call in. For the sake of sanity and ease, I recommend using whatever email address you have attached for your online profile with the services, that way your Bill AND confirmation of changes and alerts go to one email. But that is up to you.

@JohhnyRockets - Definitely can be seperate but I like it together, so I only have to remember 1 log in for Rogers.

@jackthecompguy also, if you have Shomi, or Game Center Live, or NextIssue or any other services. Profile B will become the log in, since it looks at the profile and the service in it. (Assuming you do the swap).

Cheers,

Shak

Most browsers these days will save your passwords so there is no need to remember them (though you could keep a list just in case). I still like the idea of having my Rogers account and all of my services with Rogers (MyRogers, Shomi, RAPTV) use the same password and having a different user name and password for the forums! That way, if I get in trouble with the forums (some of us do on occassion - Smiley Wink), I never have to worry about my account log in being in jeopardy!

Re: Community and actual MyRogers under different accounts?

Thanks guys!

@JohhnyRockets ... I would keep them separate but the forums only account is causing issues some times when I try to sign in it throws me into an endless loop of "You have no rogers services with this account" and if I try to go to the forums it won't log on some times... If i wait a couple hours it works again, but its annoying sometimes, lol. I would obviously get around this if I had a service linked to the account.

Re: Community and actual MyRogers under different accounts?

I would not suggest saving passwords for any of the accounts for rogers on demand, shomi, myaccount, etc in your browser, unless you are using one of the add on products like from Norton or others to encrypt the information.  You are leaving your computer, tablet, or phone open to anybody who picks it up and knows how to find the login names and passwords and they now can use it at will to use your on demand, shomi, and can actually get into my account - I have always found it questionable from a security standpoint that Rogers has assigned the same login to all of these things including the forum to the My account - that would make as much sense as tying your online access to your bank account to say a forum discussion for the bank that you may leave open when you walk away.  Most bank logins do not let you save your password for very valid security reasons.

But do as you please, just know the risks, and I now that trying to remember passwords are a nightmare, in particular if you want them to be strong.  Why do people think that we are timed out on MyAccount - so you don't forget to log out and have someone else access it.  Saving the password is risky, although if you put a password on your device, as you should (not your banking password, or anything financially related like Rogers services) you will be even more secure.
