Anyway, first question....is this a new box?  Did you call to have it authorized?

Question 2 - you cant copy from the DVR to disk...at least not easily.  Its not as easy as copying files n your computer, for example.

I dont know if there are two seperate problems here...

If there is no picture when direct to TV.. it could be a number of things..

But plugging the nextbox 3 into the DVD recorder, by any other means than just the composite video (regular single RCA video), likely will not work.. the NB's output copy protection.  I know its enabled on the HDMI, and even on the component... though you can find it present on composite as well ocasionally (ran into that in the past with trying to copy VCR to VCR with a bought VHS tape.

The 8300 has the option of recording to VCR (or DVDR). The Nextbox 3 does not have that option. Whether this is by design or oversight we don't know. In any case, the new NB3 has a lot of other bigger problems that need fixing, so don't expect this update anytime soon.

Hello,

I used to have a 8642 with a S-Video port on it.

My new Nextbox only has a USB port.

I have many shows saved on the Nextbox that I need to transfer over to hard copy or to a drive of some sort.  I have read many of the articles in here but I wanted to see if anyone had experience buying a S-Video to USB cable and connecting their DVD record with the Nextbox 3.0 and if they had success transferring.

Apparently Bell PVR's have the S-Video input but this wouldn't help me retrieve the shows I have on my current Nextbox 3.0.

Hoping someone out there can help.

As far as my equipment, I have a HD TV, a Blu Ray Player and a DVD/VHS Player along with the Nextbox all hooked up together.

Thanks

Files on NextBox. Stay in Nextbox. Thats the first thing I want to clarify.

There isn't a way to extract the file itself from the harddrive.

(I assume you have a NextBox PVR, not just a NextBox).

You can do the old school "VCR" trick, Play the recording from your nextbox output the video/audio to a Input of VCR/DVR of some sort - Record it there, and Output from the VCR/DVR into Input of your TV to see what you are doing.

Like a "Bridge" in the middle that records. Playback NextBox, Record in the middle, Display on TV.

...

Hope this helps,

I am going by personal experience, however I didn't read any articles here about it (though, I would be certain this has been discussed before).

Hi there...

Can you give me more info about this old school trick you suggest?  Step by step would be awesome.

Yeah, I have Nextbox PVR.

I tried playing something that was recorded and then hitting record with the DVD recorder but when playing it back, the output on the DVD was black.

Should I purchase the S-Video to USB cable, use it to connect the DVD Record and Nextbox PVR, then it play on my cable converter to play the show I want to record and follow that by hitting record on the DVD Recorder's remote?

Or is it not necessary according to the old school trick that you are proposing?

Thanks

I don't believe the Nextbox 3 has a "Record to VCR (or DVDR)" menu function like the 8300, but apparently some people say they've done it. The USB port on the back is not an output and not for customer use. If you have a DVDR, you can try the RCA outputs while playing a recording and see what you get. All recording is in real time, so 40 hours of recordings will take 40 hours to copy, plus the time to cue them and change discs.
