I want to know technical details about my PVR....

Hard disk Space

Hard disk size

Does it report Disk errors... like a Pc and indicate if space is lost to errors ?

Firmware version

Software version (OS)

Three a sort of 'bios' info screen.. i saw the last tech out here looking at it.

No clue how to get there though

Signal Strength/Diagnostics:

1. On the box itself (not using the remote):
  - Power Off the STB
  - Press and hold the Vol+ and the Info buttons for several seconds
  - The diagnostic screen will pop up
2. This takes you to all kinds of information.

Agreed with Speedy. That is the only info you will see on the screen by doing that.

There is another way without powering off the unit.

Press & hold the "SELECT" button unitl a little envelope looking icon shows up in the display.  Then press info.  This will bring up the diagnostic screens.  You can then use the Page "+" & "-" buttons to page throught the many different screens.

When done, press EXIT to return to normal viewing.

This only applies to non Cisco terminals though.  This method will not work with the 8642.

Yes I went out of my way to type this out, but I like to troubleshoot so this is the area (comparing versions) I would be looking at.  I also doubt there is any personal data here as this is all version info ( some screens show IP/ MAC).

@toff. Indeed it does work on the 8642HDPVR box. I tried it out multiple times and so did my friend with his new Nextbox. It works.

So where does it say in the tech info the PVR size aka GB's?? I was told by the rep at the rogers store that mine was 500GB, where would I see/confirm that??
