It might have something to do with discovery being owned by bell. Same reason no food HD or hgtv HD, they are owned by Shaw. Such a pain in the butt.

Looks like Food and HGTV are now available in HD VIP - got it yesterday - but still no Discovery or Space. Agreed, what a pain, but DISCOVERY AND SPACE ARE ADVERTISED AS BEING AVAILABLE IN SOME AREAS?! WHERE!!!?

I've been bugging about SPACE HD for months (would've love watching the recent Doctor Who and Torchwood in glorious HD!!!).

I found the following site: http://www.rogers.com/web/content/hdtv_revamp

In the Digital VIP package (which I have),  there is a link that shows SPACE HD is one of the channels that comes free in the package. Unfortunately it doesn;t say where these channels are available (I'm in the GTA).

I just called Customer Service and gave them the URL above.

She couldn't find the station on her system either (along with some other HD channels) and according to her, Ontario should be getting new stations first.

She put in the note to contact me if SPACE HD becomes available (OK ... I'm not that naive!)

Interesting that both Discovery HD and Space HD are mentioned in that list you linked to. Obviously they are planned. I have no idea why it takes so long to carry them, there are lots of spaces on the 'dial' and Rogers already carries a whole bunch of Bell Media-owned channels, Shaw-owned too for that matter so I see no obstacles.
I guess we just have to be patient.

I'm betting it's because those 2 channels are owned by Bell and Bell is probably refusing to let Rogers carry them. This is a good example of why cable providers should not be allowed to own TV stations.

The CRTC should step in and force Bell to let Rogers carry these channels. I bet if Bell could get away with it, CTV would be only in HD on Bell as well.

I am sure that's not the case.   More like Rogers is just slow on the uptake.   They already carry a whole bunch of Bell Media and even Shaw-owned channels, so that argument is most likely wrong.

I've just read all the posts here, and guess what... it is march2012, and nothing has change wifth regards to both Space and Discovery channels on Rogers. I'll be phoning Rogers about these issues specifically, and perhaps if enough people address this, who knows, there is power in numbers with cable services.

from wikipedia:

Discovery Channel HD

On June 17, 2011 Bell Media announced that it will launch, for a second time, Discovery Channel HD, a high definition (HD) simulcast of the standard definition feed. The channel launched two months later on August 18, 2011.[1] It is currently available on Bell TV, Bell Fibe TV, Shaw Cable and Videotron. Discovery Channel HD is to launch on TELUS Optik TV soon.

Just some more on this issue, yes Bell has it, Rogers doesn't....maybe time for a switch?!?
